  1. I have a bunch of blemished ones if you want them they are yours free. This would include some Arkies (which are brown), finesse Snooties and bunch of others in black , brown and green and all different sizes in ounces. They are not perfect as some of them have flaws, maybe a paint chip, but they are fishable and will catch fish. They do not have skirts on them either. So if that works for you then they are yours. PM me your full name and address, and I 'll send them out to you on Tuesday. Have fun and catch some fish.
  2. WRB, I totally agree with you. Since I don't fish a lot of timber, all of my jigs have a 15 strand fiber weedguard or less. I do not like stiff weedguards no matter where I fish. I do also believe that stiff weedguards prevent good hooksets. My philosophy is, the little bit of weedguard I have on my jigs is there to deflect weeds that's it. JMO.
  3. My Ace hardware has it, however, I buy the bigger bottles at Tower hobbies on line. Much cheaper that way if you are going to use a lot of it.
  4. Slone, I agree with you, I buy a boat for its current features that I like and maybe for some features I didn't have in my last boat. I do not buy a boat for re-sale value later. Because lets face it when a boat gets older it does lose a lot of value. Also I see a lot of guys that have 2 -3 year old boats that are in worst shape than my 7 year old boat. Resale value is only as good as in how well you take care of your boat. My Ranger is now 7 years old and it looks like it is brand new. However I am very anal about my boat and trailer. There are no scratches (if any happen I get them fixed), the boat and motor are meticulously maintained. The reason I bought my boat was because the Ranger I have has a longer front deck for the fishing rods I use, and they fit flat on the floor. The other two boats didn't have that. That was my biggest thing that I wanted in a boat. It may not be a issue to others but that is what I wanted. So buy a boat with what you want in it not because you will get more money in 10 years and like mentioned there is no perfect boat. Also note, I keep my boats for over 15 years + if possible. I buy something really nice , take care of it and hope to keep it for a long time. In all reality, if we all had to fish out of a canoe, some of us would catch more fish than others. It's not only about the boat, you have to find and catch the fish too. JMO
  5. I had a Tracker Magna 17 alum. for 17 years, I can't say a bad thing about the boat other than my deck boards rotted out but it was a 1985 boat. I now have a Ranger. When I was looking at boats in 2007, I was looking at the Tracker Tundra, Lund and Ranger. The Tundra and the Lund were alum. With all said and done with the money I would have spent on the Tundra or the Lund I got a Ranger. This is my first glass boat. Pay the extra few bucks and get the Ranger if you can afford it. I was on the fence with my decisions, and I'm very happy with my Ranger.
  6. Owner 5304 deep throat hooks. Extremely sharp and I have never missed or lost a fish with this hook. Also light and strong since I like to throw really light jigs, the hook doesn't add any extra weight to the jig.
  7. My personal preference hands down would be a jig.
  8. I use a JM 6'8 MH signature II rod with a Revo premier bait caster and I have no problem casting a 1/8 oz jig with a paca chunk trailer. 95% of all the jigs I throw are 3/16 oz and less. The addition of the trailer will definitely get you the distance you need to cast accurately.
  9. If you are one of those guys that like to change skirts on the boat then I would use a rubber collar. If you never change your skirts and want a secure skirt then I would hand tie with wire.
  10. If you are going to thin it, BobP is correct. Use denatured alcohol. I have heard bad results from guys that thin with acetone or lacquer thinner.
  11. Yes it has the viscosity of 5 minute epoxy, but DO NOT use the 5 minute epoxy, as it turns yellow very quickly. I use D2T on my jigs and the finish is flawless. It is ready to fish in 24 hours, however I would wait at least two days. JMO. With epoxies, the warmer the area you are working in the easier it is to apply and the more it stays liquid longer. So if you are working in a garage and it is 45 degrees in there, you will be pretty hard pressed to get any kind of good coverage on your bait, because the epoxy will be very stiff. So I would suggest you do this in your house. The D2T has no smell. Working in the house, you will get excellent coverage, and Devcon is self leveling. What that means is that all the brush strokes will disappear. Also don't over brush it. Brush it on , see that you have complete coverage and let dry. I occasionally look at my jigs to see if anything is dripping. However I do not use a lure turner on my jigs. Also when you use it. squeeze out only what you will need in about 10 to 15 minutes. Once you mix the two parts, a chemical reaction starts, and the epoxy starts it hardening process. So don't do a lot at one time because you will never brush it on as it starts to harden. There are some short cuts as heating it and so on, but it would take me too long to explain. If you need more help PM me.
  12. To me if it is warm enough, I would not thin Devcon. JMO. From what I've heard, it is one drop just to thin, not to make it soupy. Also, if you thin it you will have to put it on a rotating wheel, to definitely keep it from sagging.

    Hook Id

It is probably a Mustad 32886. It could also be a custom run Gami that is available. On second thought that is not a standard Do-It Poison Tail jig. Someone had the mold cut, modified and extended the barb on the collar. Do-It does not make their collars like that on the Poison Tail. Do-it's is a double disc collar.
  14. I had a feeling it wouldn't do anything. I honestly don't have any solutions for you other than get white feathers and tie new ones on. Good Luck.
  15. Nathan, I have my remote on my belt loop. Doesn't hamper fishing and no problem. Easy to use and once you get used to it you will rarely if ever use a pedal. I would not do without my Terrova and I-pilot.
  16. You will love Your Terrova. I have had my Terrova since 2007 and put on the I-pilot 2 years ago. I love both my Terrova and my I-pilot. No more standing on the foot pedal. I only use my foot pedal when it is really windy outside, like 20-30 mph winds.
  17. I just thought of this, but maybe try bleach. Maybe that would work I don't know?????? It might make it much lighter in color.
  18. I, tried dying years ago, and if I recall you cannot go from black to white, but you can go the other way. I believe that everyone starts with white and then they dye to the color they want. Not 100% sure though.
  19. Whether they should be thicker or thinner is your call. I like thinner hooks, but that is my preference and fishing style.
  20. Kinpin, I see you've looked at, and understand all your options. As far as what hook is better, that is your personal choice. If you are set on the Gammi Superline EWG and money is not a factor, go with it and see how it works for you. I would be the last person to dissuade someone on what to fish with. You and I both know that confidence is a big factor in fishing. If you ended up using a different hook, you will always in the back of your mind think "What If". With that said try the Gami Superline and post your results.
  21. Kingpin, I do have a limited number of Gami 28/30 degree hooks that are Gamis 4/0 - 5/0 hook. These are round bend hooks. The reason I call them 4/0 - 5/0 is because they are a size between a standard 4/0 and a 5/0 ( like a 4.5/0). Gami always had there own sizes and it never seemed to match normal standards (for jig molds that is). That is why you rarely see a lot of jig molds that use Gami's, unless they have been modified. Owner the same thing, very few hook options if any for a 28/30 degree hook. Anyway the Gamis I have are a heavy hook. Like smalljaw67 stated, a 32886 hook will fit that mold and it is a darn good hook. Just because it's a round bend, don't discard that hook. On the flip side I have talked to many guys that hate an EWG hook on the poison tail, because of missed hook ups. This is due to how you set your hook. Setting hooks on a round bend and an EWG is different especially on a poison tail jig. Smalljaw and I have hashed this idea around for quite some time, and found a sweeping hookset works better for an EWG hook. However to each his own. Anyway if you are interested PM me.
  22. I personally like true blue. I use that on my jigs. Now I wouldn't say I get aggressive strikes with it , however I have used it during the spawn and it does catch fish, also the nice thing about it, is you can see the jig really well in clear water. The blue does pop. Another good color around here in my area is white.
  23. SMB, You fish the same waters I do. We should talk some more off line. I fish Delavan, Geneva, Brown, Beulah, Tichigan and most of all the S.E Wisconsin lakes. I fish a few local tourneys as well. I am a die hard jig fisherman and those are killers on the lakes you mentioned. Also I use Paca chunks as trailers............. PM sent

    Weed Guard

I will say that I have in the early days poured weedguards in place, and from the heat of lead onto the weedguard material it fused that weedguard in, which to me is stronger. However, I glue mine in like Jig Man and have never had one come out. Also you get a better paint job when you glue in your weedguard last and it's easier to put the skirt on first, especially when you hand tie your skirt whether wire or thread.
  25. My choice would be tab of yellow (not yellow chartreuse), tab of black, 6 strands of orange and 5 strands of watermelon. This would make up a 55 strand skirt. I get most of all of my skirts from fishingskirts.com If you think there is too much black in there take some out and add more yellow to balance it off.
