I agree 100%. I always use my spinning reel for lighter stuff and unweighted soft plastics. Ther will be alot of defiance towards spinning gear on this forum from the die hard baitcasters but,Alot of us use spinning gear.
I spend more time reading customers product reviews on BPS and cabelas than I do this forum. Those reviews are pretty much right on and can be trusted for future purchases.
When you say "outlet" if by that you mean cheap or on sale the only deals Ive ever seen are at the start of the hunting season when wal-mart or K-mart has bins of stuff theyve marked down to try to get rid of.
I always start with one. Ive bought so many exspensive crankbaits and buzz baits that would barely wobble or stay afloat that I learned to try before you overbuy.
Oddly enough one of them manual high dollar ski type can drown a unconsience person. Only the standard manual cheapo type ones will turn a knocked out person upright.
I like 5:3 for everything. The only exception is topwater 7:1. {jerk baits, buzzbaits, sammys, poppers.}Thats because I wont crank myself to death with any topwater like I would plowing through water with a diver.
I use baitcasters for all my lures except soft plastics. I cant say why but I like the worms, tubes and lizards on my spinning outfit. As someone else mention, no spinning outfits drag can match the drag of any baitcaster for hauling in the bigger fish.
If the water was that cold could it be possible that you needed to pull harder to get the worm out of the hook and penetrate the basses mouth ? Could the soft plastic gotter tougher from the cold temps ?
Let me make a statement .I can throw a weightless super fluke with my stx. I can not throw a weightless super fluke without several backlashes with my sx.Dont throw me to the lions.
Im a shimano man but, I must say if I were you Id get another revo. To me any time you can have several of the same reel its better than constantly switching back and forth between differing types of reels. And I would make the next one a revo STX for the lighter weight casting.
When Im done fishin I connect my crankin battery and my trolling battery with a homemade set of wires and alligator clips.{sorta like mini jumper cables} I then use a plain ole battery charger on trickle charge overnight. Ive done this for several years with no problem.
I had a miserable time flipping in my toon till I stepped up and bought a 7 ft. 9 in. carrot stick. I put my smooth as silk curado on it and in no time I was flipping like a pro!
Any reel that say johnny morris or BPS on the nameplate. Ive broken every one on at least the first or second trip. Yes, and the .99 cent bin at wally world.
