  1. I know this is an old topic, but I thought I would go ahead and throw in my two cents. I have found wat works best for is to get some fairly light line. I like the 4lb mr crappie. A number 6 or 8 hook. A split shot about 6-8 inches above the hook, and a bobber about 1 1/2 to 2 feet above. I know alot of people like to use slip bobbers, but I have a hell of a time setting the hook from the bank with them.
  2. That'll make two big ole filets!
  3. crappie and bluegill are about all we eat anymore... Definitely my two favorites!
  4. This is a great method! Otherwise I will use a #8 or #6 baitholder, a split shot 3-4 inches above that, than a light bobber about 1 1/2 feet above that... Catch them all day long! I guess I should add either a piece of crawler or redworm on the hook...
  5. Crappie like Disco... It's a long story...
  6. Ive always had trouble with spinnerbaits. Although I did catch a MONSTER cat on one by accident one morning.
  7. I looked for a good pair for a long time... never came to be. Next time you buy glasses look for a place that does a buy one get one free deal. I got a nice pair of sunglasses in my RX and had them polarized.
  8. Still my favorite species after 30 years... As fun as they were when I was 5 years old.
  9. There goes my day...
  10. When I was a kid, a friend of mines step dad use to take us out around midnight. He would anchor his pontoon and hang a couple of lanterns over the side. We would catch them all night long on minnows.
  11. Appreciate all the comments... I ended up going with a Spiderwire 20lb braid. Seems pretty smooth so far, but I wont be able to get on the water for another couple of months. Hoping for the best, Ill let you know how it goes.
  12. Awesome... I was planning on going with braid, just wasnt sure what test due to the smaller reel. Thanks!
  13. I guess I should be a little more specific. Just curious if it would be better to go with a braid / flouro / mono.
  14. Howdy all... I got a 100.00 dollar gift card for Xmas and picked up this Abu Garcia Orra S20 from Dicks... http://www.dickssportinggoods.com/product/index.jsp?productId=12584088&cp=4406646.4413993.4414792.4414799.4414833 Anyway, the Rod (6'6) and reel feel absolutely fantastic, but Im kinda torn on what kind of line to use. Normally I would go with some basic 12lb test, but I really want to get the best bang for my buck out of this reel. Any Suggestions? I fish mostly soft plastics, Texas rigged, and crank / spinner baits. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
  15. Completely the opposite... Never caught one wacky rigged, but I can slay 'em on a weightless t-rig.
  16. Thank ya Sir...
  17. Well like it says, I aint exactly new. I've been a member of this site since 2005, however I haven't been on much lately. Therefore I figured i would intro myself once again. Live in Lexington, Kentucky. Do most of my fishing in Owenton. Small private lake community called Elk Lake.
  18. I fish on a similiar lake and have pretty good luck with mid range cranbaits aroundthe docks in the mornings and at dusk... Go Cats by the way...
  19. Ive used the minnows for crappie and they work farely well... On the other hand... that juice is funky. REALLY funky. Bring some hand wipes if you use 'em.
  20. I was gonna tell you to throw a shallow crank past it... my mistake...
  21. I am probably the master of throwing Crankbaits into the trees...
  22. Pretty sweet lookin jigs man...
  23. 27 years and not a one...
  24. They appreciate it more... Im just sayin'... 8-)
  25. Ill keep it simple... UGLYSTICK... Hell... I still use bamboo poles for crappie and bluegill.
