  1. She's got her Grandmothers nose - LOL. Congratulations - dogs are God's gift to humanity!
  2. The old crank telephones worked good too
  3. Maybe that's what was going on here http://www.ketv.com/news/local-news/Fisherman-reels-in-live-grenade/-/9674510/15957456/-/plafa5z/-/index.html?absolute=true
  4. The jig police will not fine you for throwing 'em around wood - one thing you do want to watch though is that the hook gap is not too open or they will definetly hang up more.
  5. Trailer hooks are like American Express - don't leave home without 'em. Trailer hooks on buzz baits can help with your hook-ups but they don't guarantee a catch everytime. If you get a good strike that doesn't hook up, have a throw back lure (Senko, Ring-Fry, etc.) to give 'em another chance.
  6. It has been a dozen years or so since I last used Pete Wenners - he was great everytime we went out with him. He was especially helpful to my (then) 6 year old son and my (then 70) year old father-in-law. He introduced me to drop-shotting before anyone in this area had even heard of it.
  7. Why do they have to stand up straight? Fish will gravitate to them because they are there, not how they look. Be sure to mark where you drop 'em and (if possible) which way they lay.
  8. Chatter baits creat lots more distubance in the water and will call fish from further away. They are great for fishing in the grass as the vibrations will clear your bait and keep it from getting so bogged down. One of my fishing buddies uses Ch Baits almost exclusiively and is regularly in the top 5 for club tournaments. One thing about them though, they are wood magnets - if you throw them nead wood or a brush pile you can pretty much kiss it good-bye. As for the retrieve - there are two that I have found to work - 1) a slow, steady retrieve will keep it just below the surface like a spinner bait; 2) the "pull and drop" - give it a pull, let it drop and reel up the slack (this seems to work best early in the year). They are not for deep water but they can be deadly in water out to about 6 -8 feet.
  9. First of all, you can fish 'em weightless - more so the regular size than the Baby RF's - These are my goto bait all year long - I try to use the least amount of weight I can get by with (depending on the wind/current). They work great in brush piles and in grassy shore areas. Don't work 'em too fast, but let the rings do their job.
  10. "BLUSH!!!" - no wonder I couldn't find it - LOL - Thanks guys
  11. Several weeks back I recall seeing a reference to an "allen head jig". I have looked around an can't find the post or any other mention of an "allen head jig" - seems like it was an option for swimming a jig but I don't know what it is. Any one who can help?
  12. Caught my PB on a green pumpkin Pit Boss earlier this year - also caught my last bass of the season last year on one that was black/brown (don't know what they call it). If you are going to use 'em on a jig, I would suggest a small one (no more than a 1/4 oz) - I typically use 'em T-rigged with a 1/4 to 3/8 oz bullet weight depending on the water depth and the wind.
  13. My partner in crime got an electric toaster oven for Father's day to use to bake his jigs aftern painting them (his wife got tired of his using the one in the kitchen). Our question is can we use this to heat up the jigs before dipping them in the powder pain? If so, how hot do they need to be? Thanks.
  14. Outside a small Macedonian village, close to the border between Greece and strife-torn Yugoslavia, a lone Catholic nun keeps a quiet watch over a silent convent. She is the last caretaker of a site of significant historic developments. The convent once served as a base for the army of Attila the Hun. In more ancient times, a Greek temple to Eros, the god of love, occupied the hilltop site. The Huns are believed to have first collected and then destroyed a large gathering of Greek legal writs at the site. It is believed that Attila wanted to study the Greek legal system and had the writs and other documents brought to the temple, but then destroyed them to preserve his power. When the Greek Church took over the site in the 15th Century and the convent was built. Church leaders ordered the pagan statue of Eros destroyed, so another ancient Greek treasure was lost. Today, there is only the lone sister, watching over the old Hun base. And that's how it ends: No Huns, no writs, no Eros, and nun left on base.
  15. Thanks everybody - I guess we'll just keep trying - that's kinda like fishing and what makes it fun. One thing though, cadman what do you mean by "flash off"? I'm not familiar with that term.
  16. A friend and I have been buying jig heads and painting them with powder paint. However, after getting them painted we are having trouble getting the weedguards to hold. We are using pins to keep the hole open, but superglue isn't doing the trick. Is there some other trick that you guys can offer? Thanks.
  17. One reason you may be having problems catchin 'em on a crawdad lure is that you want to fish it in the thickest gnarliest cover you can find. They may work out in the open if you are bed fishing but the rest of the time, bass are "looking for [love] in all the wrong places". T-rig 'em and throw 'em in the brush piles, you may be surprised.
  18. so we got him "fixed". He is a Puganese (cross between a Pug and a Pekenese) about 1 year old. My wife set up the appointment and I took him in that morning. She picked him up and when he got home he wouldn't have anything to do with me - ran and hid behind my wife when I go too close. It took us about two days to make up. I have always said dogs know more than we give them credit for.
  19. If you are only giving it 10 minutes you are not trying hard enough. Keep on throwin 'em and once you get one fired up you will usually find that it bring others to the top. There's nothing wrong with catchin 'em on a Pop-R, but you will fall in love with buzzers once you get the hang of it.
  20. The best way to get out of your comfort zone and learn a new technique is just go fishing and leave all your other stuff at home. For instance, if you want to learn jigs, don't bring your soft plastics with you, etc.
  21. There are actually two Zoom Speed Worms - one has a paddle tail and one has an ultra-vibe tail. I righ the paddle tail paralell to the surface and the ultra-vibe perpendicular to the surface. I like to use June bug and June bug red and will often dip the tail in a chartruese dye. I fish them both as bottom bouncers and swim 'em.
  22. There is one other component to this. A few years ago, I was fishing a lake and noticed that I would catch one that was dark and healthy looking and the next one (in the same area, depth, etc.) would look pale and washed out. I asked the DNR guy about this and learned that they were moving fish from another lake that was being refurbished. The ones that were pale were the fish that had been moved and were feeling shocked.
  23. I never fish with a weighted keel hook, but don't see why that wouldn't work. I throw them T-rigged with a 1/4 to 3/8 oz weight (depending on the wind). Haven't really started C-rigging yet, but think they may be an option for that. They are murdered in the brush piles now that Momma has abandoned the nest.
  24. I have just set up a parelell connection and wonder when charging do I have to charge each battery seperately or can I charge them in parelell also. If charging in paralell - how do you make the connections (+ on one - on the other)?
  25. Excellent post CATRESOURCE. I made a committment a long time ago to "learn" something on every fishing trip - I am not always disciplined enough to do this, but I try. That has helped me tremendously over the years.
