  1. The bait monkey. He can be friend or foe. I have more tackle then I could use in 2 lifetimes. It's ok. I'm heading towards retirement and at that point I will slow way down but for now I buy what I want. The one thing that has changed is over the last 30 years I have learned what works for me and very rarely buy the hot new bait(s). The one thing to keep in mind; you may not be in a position to have latest and greatest so never let threads like these make you spend when you shouldn't. The fish couldn't care less whether you have a $400.00 reel or a fancy boat. I went for years with lower end stuff and did just fine. The point being, be patient, work hard, be smart and your day will come.

  14. Eastern North Carolina! I fished in these swamps since I was 9 years old. I will retire in 3 years and return to them for good.
  15. It was tough fishing but a good time. Me, my grandson, nephew, and brother fished and had fun. A tropical storm passed through and made for some tough conditions but we had fun and caught a few including a Swamp Donkey. the big girl hit a Rebel pop r!

  20. Like @Catt the reason I fish at night from May through September is it's cooler tempature wise. I used to get caught up in all the night baits having to be darker. I don't so much anymore. If you're more confident in doing so you should do it. Purely for nostalgias sake I will fish a Black Rebel ringworm with a fire tail at night but mostly the same colors I throw during the day. As for casting at night I simply cast and go with it. If I get hung up so be it. Yes, sometimes I'm not positive it went where cast but I still seem to do pretty well. Bugs; it's the price you pay at night but here in North Carolina it's manageable, even in the swamps. Lastly, and I mention this in every thread about night fishing. KNOW your water. It's a different world out there at night and trouble can easily happen if you're not familiar with the lake you're fishing. Wear the pfd!
  21. I have fish a lake 4 times this year that I had refused to fish since 1984. It's a tough lake to fish and clear water is not something I'm used to. With encouragement from my son-in-law and a good friend of mine I decided to give it a go. The first two outings were tough in that we only caught one fish and being out of my element it seemed like I had no idea of what to do. The third trip was a little better and the Father's day trip was really nice. I took a few small adjustments and the proverbial light bulb cut on. In a nut shell, I fished the way I wanted and stayed a little further off the bank. While nothing huge was caught we did manage 9. I believe I have found a new home lake and look forward to getting out there this week.
