I don't know that it's a secret other than I don't see anyone throwing one.
Without going into detail this was my last trip of the year and is more than likely the last until next year. My son-in-law took me to school on this trip and I couldn't be happier. I caught nothing but babies but I caught plenty of them. He caught several in the 2 lb. range and to witness each one was a thrill.
Y'all keep the fish pictures and reports coming!
I live in the Western part of North Carolina but I was born and raised in Eastern North Carolina. That said; the meal I could eat 24/7 are roasted Stump Sound Oysters.
Each year for Thanksgiving as a boy we had roasted oysters, grits, fried cornbread, and Pecan pie.
When I moved up here after college it's strictly what some view as traditional. Turkey and all the fixings. It's fine and my wife's family is as much about the gathering as the food. It surprised me that they were open to have a traditional downeast dinner the day after. It's more an every other year deal. I like the fact that this let to teach my grandsons how to clean, roast, and eat something they might not have otherwise.
North Carolina; I am very close to retirement and my have to earlier Than I planned.
I grew up fishing the swamps in Eastern NC and those memories are burned deeply in my soul. I moved to the western part of the state right out of college. The fishing here took some adjustment but has turned out to be great.
There are so many places to Bass fish from West to East and while a DD is a possibility at many fisheries you hear very little about it. There's a diversity in the state from trout to inshore and offshore saltwater species.
I travel to the swamps to fish at least once a month and will be there full time soon. I'm sure I'll travel to Western NC to fish but the swamp is my home.
Carolina custom crankbaits are Balsa and made in Valdese NC. Their models cover from 2-10 feet. Jason is working on a deeper model that I will help field test early Spring.
One of my favorite small tackleshops shut down. Thankfully another opened. I go once a week and buy something each time. It's a great place to shoot the bull!
The only thing I don't buy from there are Jigs and tungsten weights( Siebert outdoors) Reels (Shimano) and some Reaction Innovations products he doesn't carry.
You really should have stopped "open mindedness but that is not natural for fisherman".
Your last sentence comes off as arrogant and close minded. I don't think you meant it to be and I have enjoyed reading your posts in this thread.
On a jig, worm, beaver bait. I cross their eyes. Physics be darned that's how It is.
Crankbaits, chatterbaits, etc., it's more of a sweep set.
In the end, if you spend enough time on the water you'll figure out what works for you.
