  1. Hey, uh, my 18th birthday isn't till February 14th next year. Have your mom put that in her calendar. Tell her i like Shimano Core 50mgs with a St. Croix extreme rod...7'M.
  2. Thanks for the feedback fellas. Ive been lookin at the curado for a while and i was deciding to get a if i should a high speed reel. Curently my Daiwa procaster(BC) is 6.3:1 and my Daiwa regal(spinning) is 5.1:1. Now that i think about i think my spinning skills are pretty good now to where i can control the distance pretty well. I really want a curado and i felt like i needed a high speed reel, but money aint on my side atm. Haha, gotta get a job...
  3. To elaborate on what Raul said, You want a worm that will move a lot of water, a larger worm, with some kind of vibrating/curly tail. Or something like a creature bait, with a lot of floppy appendages. In murkier water, a bass's sense will emphasize be more on feel(vibrations)/smell since its eyesight is hampered. I would try an Strike Rage Tail Anaconda in junebug or watermelon
  4. T9, you couldn't be more spot on. The area i was having them hit at was an area where i could only catch a few fish and usually dinks, with the exception of a 2.5lb LM and it was like one fish a day then all the action would cease..
  5. http://www.***.com/Team_Daiwa_Advantage-A_Casting_Reels/descpage-TDACA.html So somthing like this? it has a free floating aluminum spool. and for a rod would a 7' M work?
  6. How light of a lure can i cast with a casting reel. like 1/16oz?
  7. I have 6.3:1 and i feel like its good enough. I was looking into buying another rod for spinnerbaits/lipless cranks, and possibly doing some jigging. Is i high speed reel needed for this application? What are pros and cons?
  8. This is how i learned: Texas rigging. 1. Cast out (if from shore you should start casting parallel). 2. Start with the rod at 9 o'clock position. 3. Lift the rod up to about an 11 o'clock position 4. While the bait is falling, get ready to set the hook. I tend to get a bite on the fall more often. 5. Wait a few seconds, beacuse they can also bite off the bottom. 6. Repeat steps 2-5 back to the boat/shore. 7. Do it all over again. I would also suggest a splitshot rig. i just learned and its amazing. Texas rig a worm (without the weight) and place a splitshot above the worm about 18inches up. I like to just cast it out and let it sink all the way to the bottom and then just start reeling, really slowly.
  9. OHHH YES OHH YESH OMG YESSSSSSS
  10. Does everybody cast one handed? I'm scared i will let go of the rod, and I get more distance/accuracy. This is only with BCs though. with spinning gear i can cast one handed, but still, i usually cast two handed. Is anyone else like me?
  11. I have a diawa regal and a procaster. And if i can find a way to paint my rods blue, im doing it. and im also looking for a purple rod if anyone knows of one ;D.
  12. i was using worms with a curly tail, various colors and sizes.
  13. When was the last time you saw a spinnerbait swimming along? How about a natural buzzbait? Fish will hit just about any lure regardless if it looks like something they normally eat or not. Or a pink worm?
  14. I've known about it for a while but never tried it. Today was the first time. In my canal i caught: 2 rock bass, 1 LM, and 2 Pike. That same day i went out on the boat and had 3 REALLY nice bass on, 1 had to be at least 4lbs. 1 just came off. 1 broke off and 1 was landed (16.5inches smallie) So im definitely in love with the splitshot rig. Now i got a question: When you lose a fish, how do you get him back on the hook? Should i try a different lure or color, or are they un-catchable?
  15. -1/2oz chartreuse spinnerbait -7in power worm on splitshot rig. -1/2oz redeye shad in gold sexy shad -1/2oz blue/black booyah boo jig with a trailer of some sort. -Zara spook?
  16. Well, if you were not fishing, I don't think it is a big deal. He was good enough not to hit your boat or dock so I don't see a problem. If it bothers you put a sign up saying no fishing.
  17. Oh boy oh boy i hope i win. Been needing a new spinnerbait rod.
  18. Cheaper alternative. : BPS has these two combos and i love them both. 19. I tried an area that has a very steep drop. It goes from 2.5 to about 30 in a few steps. The other night my step dad and mom went out and saw several smallies hangin around on the ledge. He wasn't fishing for bass though he was fishing for muskie (caught a 43incher!). Anyways, we went there today and anchored in the shallow area. I threw lures into the deep and fished it back over the ledge and back into the shallows. I tried lipless cranks, 1/2oz jigs, a few spinnerbaits and worm t rigged with a 1/2oz bullet weight. I couldn't get nothing. The current was a real bugger because i would cast to my right and by time it would be on the bottom it would be right in front of me. Any tips?
  20. Yep. on 1/16, 1/8, 1/4, 3/8. Weightless, wacky, c-rig, shakey. The fish dictate how you use it really lol.
  21. Ya, Les Stroud was definitely the best. I kinda liked Bear Grylls but that's only cuz that dude is CRAZY. Did you ever see the one where he gave himself an enema?
  22. I was fishing in the back of my canal one day with a 3/8oz spinnerbait in firetiger. A fish took it as soon as it hit the water. It came to the top and swirled the water around and i thought it was a big muskie/pike. Fought pretty d**n good and when my step dad netted it and pulled onto land, it broke though the net! Wasn't foul hooked, the lure was clearly in its mouth. I estimated to be about 20lbs. Oh yeah my line got wrapped around the fish and my step dad threw it back in......in goes the rod. And I'm halfway over the seawall grabbing for my rod LOL.
  23. Catt, I'm trying to work on slowing my presentations down. I know I fish a jig to fast. My question is how do you cover water if your fishing this slowly? or is this a presentation that you use once you know you are on or around the fish? Texas rigged worms and jigs aren't really good search baits, they more for focusing on one area. A good bait for covering water would be a spinnerbait or a lipped/lipless crankbait
  24. Seriously no redeye shad?
  25. Hmm, usually slowing down is the deal. Sounds like you have thrown all different types of colors and lure presentations. Perhaps burning the lure, like a lipless crank. Maybe try adding a scent? Or try senkos when all else fails.
