  1. So is anybody down for a meetup maybe this summer? Late summer? Spring? I'm boatless at the moment. Been debating trading the motorcycle for something. But obviously down to pay for gas and drinks of choice??
  2. @Bluebasser86 whats DT training?
  3. Its been 70 here in alabama the past couple days too, big difference from Michigan...and im sorry you're stuck in Ohio too?
  4. Yoooooo that should kill. Kinda looks like the sorta sheen fish have underwater when the light hits right.
  5. @swhit140Hmm 50-60 would be a hell of a deal, I'd buy 2 right now at that price point. Would you say a tatula is ~40-60 dollars better than the advantage?
  6. As far as stiff vs limp...I dont see why you wouldn't want the limpest line you could get away with eh? Like I love monos castability(Suffix elite??), but Pline's fluroclear is pretty dang good. Throw some line conditioner on there and youre golden. Now limp doesn't mean stretchy. Correct me if im wrong but sometimes you want the stretchy for stuff like @Bluebasser86mentioned? I think because if you have a stretchy line moving a fast spinnerbait, it doesn't rip the bait away from the fish has some give to get the good hook set?
  7. @TnRiver46 I spent most of my time on lake st claire. Its big shallow bowl really. Winds like that in a bass boat were a lil sketchy sometimes for sure. They hitting this time of year in the Tennessee River?
  8. @KozGlenn worked hard on the trips and it showed. Like I said I had a BLAST! Maybe we get a couple unofficial meetups under our belts, and get enough people interested in a BassResource Trip? Anywho, suggestions for a lake? I'd love to fish Guntersville again for nostalgia purposes, but I dont really know any lakes down here and I'd love to go somewhere I havnt been! I'll throw Tennessee River in the hat for ya @TnRiver46!
  9. I came on the Guntersville trip back in 2012. Had a blast despite some less than stellar conditions. Loved it so much I wanted to move to Guntersville. Life's funny though because I lost my job and found a great new job in alabama! Moved down a year and a half ago. I saw there havnt been any since 2012 besides the unofficial one. Any plans to get it up and running again? If not I'd be down for spit balling an unofficial trip somewhere in the south east.
  10. Ive been doing jiujitsu for a bit and had some Muai thai and kickboxing training too. Im not stepping in the cage anytime soon, still a white belt(gotten past the whitebelt-spaz stage??). Maybe one day. Ive sparred before and not gonna get spazzy there either. But if anybody is in the Alabama- Georgia area and is down for some fishing and jiujitsu. Holler. My stand up game is trash so I'm pulling gaurd.
  11. Lake st clair fluctuates maybe 1-1.5ft throughout the year i think. Nothing that would completely ruin my fishing spot. Depends on how much snow we'd gotten up north. I loved the clear water so much. Now all I got is chocolate milk...
  12. 1) Youre probably good with the 15lb braid. Personally I'd go up to 30. Gives me the option to get into nastier places. Id use this rod for soft plastics as well. 2) Is this a MH rod?? I reccomend a fast reel. 7:1 gearing at least with ~12-15Lb fluro line. I'd use it for spinnerbaits swimming jigs lighter swim baits, lipless cranks. 3) This is a Heavy rod? Maybe something you could use for big swim baits, dont have a specific reel reccomendation....something with a 6-7: gear ratio? Not to make you feel like you need to biy more stuff....buuuut....? Something for cranks baits. I dont fish them much and not really sure whats best. My reccomendation is to check out the bass resource articles!
  13. Ive gone from being extremely methodical when I first started to now a little more on the medium fast. I still use methodical type lures, jigs and soft baits, but just fish them fast. Makes picking a spot apart nice when you find them and then can use that same lure to interrogate the surrounding area.
  14. I moved to the south from Michigan and lake levels aren't something I've really ever thought about. But yesterday I went to a park that over the summer I thought would be a great fishing spot come fall. Unfishable from shore....was super bummed but went to the dam and still got a couple. I think ill join your lake-level-checker-club.
  15. Looking to re-up my arsenal, and I loved my daiwa advantage BC, paired it with a 7'M rod and it was great for lighter lures. On ebay I can get one for 100-120 with maybe some cosmetic damage. Ive been out of the game for minute so I'm not sure whats really offered out there these days. But is there another reel as smooth as the Daiwa advantage for the price? Am I over hyping my first nice reel for nostalgia purposes?
  16. 7" Berkley Power worm in motor oil. Just not sure if I should go with split shot or a bullet weight.....
  17. I'd like to grow my arsenal a bit. I downsized to a bait caster and spinning rod but would like to add at least one more BC and another spinning rod. Also, I just moved to Alabama last year and didn't do any fishing over the last summer. I'd like to find some spots. Pretty broad, easy to achieve?
  18. The Guntersville road trip was almost 10 years ago...While I was down here I thought about moving. Never did. Welp...work has lead me back. I've fished Oak Mountain with no luck and have been told I might as well avoid it. Pond at my apartment has some bass in it as well. That's it since I moved down here a year ago. This summer I'd really like to get out and try more lakes. I am limited right now with no boat but looking to pick up a kayak. So shore spots only for now. Located in Birmingham as well.
  19. Day started out pretty decent. Enough clouds and wind to warrant some top water action, so tied on the spook and went to work. 1 blow up but ended up being a jumper and shook it loose on the 4th or 5th jump., looked to be a 3lb largemouth so was pretty bummed about that. After that i think i caught a couple dinky bass, nothing even over a pound..kind of a crappy start. Sun came out, got hot, and wind went away....Now I thought I really wasn't going to catch anything. Got on google and found this post: One tip was to use senkos around lilly pads. I don't use them very much anymore but I had brought some senkos in colors I bought but had never used. One color was bright neon green, and the other was junebug. I know junebugs a well known color but I rarely stray always from the greens and browns for soft plastics (Not after this outing though!). SOOOO I put on the junebug color and started smashing LM, plenty in the 2-3lb range. Then hooked into the chunky smallie. It was one of those hooksets that were just so solid, where you're not initially sure if it was a sunken car you're hooked to or fish. Every time the fish got close to the boat ZOOM it would pull out another 10 yds of line. Over and over again. Hand started actually getting pretty sore. Finally got it in, weighed it, 3lbs, 9 oz. Seemed a bit light so I took the picture of the fish close to my torso so i could measure later. After measuring my torso in the picture for length comparison I got ~21 inches in length, and i estimate girth to be ~16 ....well that gives me 6.9lbs from the BR calculator!!! I like what the calculator says a lot more but i don't exactly trust that either haha. Gotta be above 4lbs though. I'll be buying a new scale today though so i'll have to try and catch this bigun again.
  20. The more I thought about it the more i didn't like the idea. Think I'll go the kayak route. Used to have one and put it on my car with those foam blocks with the non surface slip underneath...never had a problem at highway speeds. Ya just trying to spend a couple hundo for a fishing vessel. Don't feel like buying a trialer too. The only time I ever backed one is (err, attempted) was down in Alabama on the BR Guntersville trip back in 2012. I forget whose boat it was but I can't believe they let me try to back it in. Ended up just looking like a doofus and sure did catch a ribbing!
  21. Yeah I used those blocks for my kayak a few years ago, the ones with the sticky rubber bottom. I'll have to see if they they make those same blocks that can run the length of the gunwales then that would be way better than noodles!
  22. I found a nice deal on a little 12ft boat with seats and a trolling motor for 250, no battery/charger but that's not the problem. Problem is I own a car and no trailer. Id mainly be using it on my lake in the backyard but probably taking it to other local holes. I was thinking taking some foam noodles and slipping them over the gunwales to give a better grab onto the car and prevent some damage to my car roof. Maybe instead of noodles use something with a little more grip? Obviously anchor down the front and rear and throw another ratchet strap over the middle. Anybody do something like this? Success, or Absolute critical failure?
  23. Never had an issue from the bank. When they have babies I give them a good 20-25 yards of space. More if they start taking a more aggressive stance. BUT In front of my work there is a geese couple that built a nest in the wood chips. We've had a problem with them attacking people and last week I drove my motorcycle to work....the goose flew at me from across the parking lot and t boned me while leaving. I was fine, didnt drop the bike, just a glancing blow. The next morning I rode in too. I went nice and slow trying look out for Mr Goose. As I pull in I don't see him, THEN WHACK WHACK HONK HONK WHACK HONK. He sneak attacked me from behind!
  24. I say we start burning all our trash and speed up this global warming thing. Starting to become mentally unstable and I'm pretty sure it's the crap weather.
  25. Thanks for the markup Marsh! Are those spots from that what you seen just in general or from this year specifically? Fished after work from 430 till 730, used a black and blue 3/8oz hair jig, LC Pointer in ghost minnow, XRAP in perch, bluegill colored spinnerbait, and a red lipless crank. 4 pike and 1 bass all on the lipless crank. Stayed around the steep drop offs near the west boat launch and fished the crank pretty deep and slow. As for your comment about weeds yeah there seems to still be a surprising amount around.
