  1. I agree with the police. You can get by with a $40 spinning reel but to get a baitcaster that will perform you need to spend a little more new. I would look into the Citica E for new $119.00 or you can find a Citica D very reasonable on EBay. Heck I've got a Citica 200D, 5.0 gears if you want one, send me a PM
  2. Well if your getting married, don't buy either because you will never get to use it! ;D
  3. I use 12# Mean Green, unless ultra clear water then 12# Seguar InvisX
  4. 803 is a good stick. Keep in mind that the BCR series will fish about 1/2 power stiffer than the equivalent in the MBR series. I have the MBR 843, 844 and the BCR853. It definitely has the faster tip. On the CBR's I had an 853 and swapped it for the 855. The 853 seems a little soft but LOVE the 855 for throwing any crank from 1/4 to 5/8 oz.
  5. +1 for McCoys Mean Green. I have tried P-line everything, horrible memory. Mean Green is cheap, available in bulk spools (try TW) and is in 10, 12, 15, 17, and 20. I fish all of them and if I hang up the 20 on a carolina rig, I need help to break it. Just my experience... I'm trying some Suffix right now (free with reel purchase) and I'll share some thoughts once i get it wet.
  6. Problem Solved! After much dileberation in BPS (had x-mas gift cards) I went with the Curado 300. I tried the Calcutta's but didn't fit in my hands as well and the Curado had plenty-o-capacity. I think it will also make a good Peacock reel when i get back there. Thanks guys! BTW, what is a Diawa? ;D
  7. I got a new GLoomis SWBR for X-mas. It's a 7'6 rated up to 4 oz. I was kinda thinking either a Calcutta 200 or a Curado 300. thoughts?????
  8. I'm a GLommis nut and have too many (wife says). Believe it or not the one I use to throw pointers (100,128), megabass, and Jackalls' is my CBR 847. I have the CBR845 that is use for small to med cranks, and the 847 for the larger cranks and jerk baits. I used it once when it had the line type i wanted to throw and said "what the heck". All my 783's, 784's had to heavy of a line. It worked great and i've been using it for that ever since.
  9. I need new crankbait/spinnerbait reels, and was headed down to get 3 Curado E5's. TW has the Chronarch B's for $186.00 vs. 179 for the Curado E. Which would you have????? Happy NEWYEAR! ;D
  10. I too am a GLoomis lover and have many. I own the BCR874, BCR853, and the 894 flippin stick. The new GLX series has a little different bend profile than the original 843, 844, etc. The new series is a little stiffer and all of them seem to have more backbone for the same power rating. The 874 you ask about i do use primarily as a Carolina rig rod but could be used for heavier stuff. The 3 power in this series is my workhorse and throw Senko's, TxRig, Jigs, you name it. Probably my favorite 2 rods.
  11. Sho nuff' but I've been fishing the Curado/Chronarch level stuff for years. The Citca's are nice but having many, at least the older versions, the longevity was not there compared to the others. Maybe the new ones are different. I love my Chronarch 50mg, but on my flippin stick or CR rod, using 20 pounds I can almost spool it on a long cast!
  12. I've owned Shimano reels (happily) for 20 years. Citca, CuradoB, CuradoD(didn't like that one), Chronarch, Chronarch SF, Chronarch Mg, Calais, etc... My favorite of all time was the Curado B SF.. It was a 200 size reel with a 6.2 gear ratio. Now the new Curado's have 5.1 or 7.1 and i hear the new Chronarch are a 100 size reel but still no 6.2 gears. Am I the only one that likes the line capacity of a 200 series and 6.2 gears? Or is it time i face facts and move to the Revo's or Zillions where they offer both options. I'm so accustomed to the smoothness and castability of a Shimano, i just don't know if i can switch. I know the other products are good but what does a Revo cast like a year after ownership when you are throwing a weighless Senko into a 15mph wind. Reading the specs won't tell you that. Thanks for any input! Newbie
