  1. I am looking at getting a 6'6" medium action St Croix Premier with a fast tip spinning rod and putting a Pflueger President 6935X on it for large and smallmouth bass. Is this a good combonation?
  2. Thanks for all the replies. I now have some options to look at.
  3. Recently I had my spinning rig that I had for years stolen. I still have several baitcasters and why they left them I have no idea. Anyway, now I am in the market for a new one and it has been a long time since I have shopped around. I want a 6'6" medium action spinning rod with a spinning reel that can hold 6 to 10 lb test. I fish for smallies in rivers and bass in lakes from a kayak. I am willing to spend up to 250.00 but the least expensive but quality gear the better. What would you recommend. Thanks
  4. I have a Diawa 1300SS and I am looking for a new spool for it. Does anyone know where I can find one? Thanks
  5. Does anyone have any experience with Abu Garcia's Silver Max reel? If so would you share you thoughts about it. Thanks
  6. I am looking for a good low profile baitcasting reel for under $150.00 for a 7' mh rod that I use for general purpose fishing on my kayak. It has been years since I have looked at any so I am not sure the quality that is out there. Thanks
  7. Is the Pflueger President 6735X a good reel?
  8. I have one my brother in law gave me over 15 years ago that I use for blue gills and other pan fish. I even used it for trout before I started fly-fishing. It is a pretty good little rod for the price. I am not sure what the newer ones are like.
  9. I use a Bass Pros Extreme XTR66MLS-2 with a with a Pflueger President 6735X for that very purpose. Wait around and the Extremes may go on sale in the next couple of months.
  10. The one I have in my hand at the time but I have 17 but that includes fly rods and surf and pier rods. My wife likes it that I collect rods instead of girl friends. ;D
  11. I have looked at Bass Masters, NC Game and Fish and North Carolina Sportsman. What are some good fishing magazines? Is North American Fisherman and In-Fisherman any good?
  12. Thanks for the responses. I have followed most of the advice given about different lures and fan casting but I have stayed in an area for 2 hours and not caught anything but just knowing that "just one more cast" will catch one.
  13. Being a bank fisherman and no electronics to locate fish I was wondering how long would you fish a spot before moving on?
  14. Yeah. Now that I look at it, it is a stupid question but being new at this I thought it might make a difference.
  15. I have got my rods and reels and a handfull of some basic lures: crankbaits (shad and crawfish) worms (green pumpkin and black) spinnerbait (white and whie chartreuse) jigs (black and black and blue) topwater (Pop-R and Jitterbug) I am sure they will catch fish anytime of year but what is the best time of year to use each type of lure?
  16. This is a real newbie question I know but I am interested in knowing if there is a major difference between a 1 piece rod compared to a 2 piece rod other that the 2 piece is easier to store or transport.
  17. I was reading an article on this site on worm fishing and it said, "When fishing the Texas rig, use a medium to heavy action rod with a fast tip for better hooksets and more sensitivity. Use 5 1/2 to 6 foot rods - they don't over move the worm like longer rods do. Use 8 to 14 pound test line." I was surprised by the rod recommendation. How many fishermen follow that advice. I see most people with 6'6'-7' rods. Also, who makes a good affordable worm rod.
  18. I have been looking at crankbaits and have just about lost my mind. What is a good brand to buy? What are some good colors, size and depth range should a newbie buy who will be fishing from from the shore. Thanks
  19. I have been sending off for fishing catalogs? How does Cabelas compare to Bass Pro in regards to what they sell and the quality. Are there other good catalogs I should order? Thanks
  20. I was able to buy a new Rick Clunn baitcast reel new in the box for $50.00. Is this a good reel?
  21. As I mentioned I am new to fishing. I have been reading a review of David Fritts reel and it had this written on it "DF10HC has PowerLock instant anti-reverse; other models have dual-pawl anti-reverse." I can figure out what instant anti-reverse but what is dual-pawl anti-reverse. Also, what gear ratio do most people use for crankbaits. Thanks for all the answers.
  22. After reading all of the responses and searching the boards I realize that choice of rods and reels is more of a personal choice than anything else. I will be at Bass Pro tomorrow to look for a reel to match to a 6'6" M Crankin Stick I thought it said MH at first. What do I need to look for when choosing a reel for this particular rod. I understand that it is mainly for crankbaits. I saw some recommendations for a reel by David Fritts that is suppose to be good for throwing crankbaits. After reading the board and some articles I may look for two more rods and reels combos to get started with. One would be a 6'6"-7' MH action baitcasting combo with 12-14 lb test line, and a 6'6"-7' M action spinning rod with 8-10 lb test line. If I understand right these two outfits along with the crankbait outfit could handle the majority of my fishing. Later I could get a flipping/pitching setup. My main question is how do I go about making sure I am selecting good balanced combonatios and a quality product.
  23. Good Morning, I am new to fishing and would like to know the name brand, sizes, and colors of some basic lures to get started with? I will be fishing from a nearby lake from the bank, Thanks
  24. Hello, I am new to bass fishing and fishing in general. I was given a 6'6" mh rod for Christmas. What would be a good starter reel for around $75.00.
