  1. Fished my Shelbyville event and caught a couple of short fish but that was it. Next events are back at Rend and then final event for one league is on Shelbyville again and hoping the forth time is the charm!!
  2. Fishing Shelbyville in another week and trying to figure it out myself for a largemouth over 14" lol
  3. Just made a stop at Dicks and picked up the Tec Spec 7'6" MH/XF Casting telescopic rod for $49.99 which is rated for 1/4 to 1 oz to use as a jig rod. I also have the 7' MH/F spinning rod which I use for plastics and its a great rod and very sensitive and hoping for the same results with the new purchase.
  4. Try one of the Shimano line of rods in the Convergence,Crucial or Compre line as I think they all have a 7'2" or 7'3" MH in those lines with prices ranging $69.99 to roughly $109.99
  5. I have the 7' MH Tec Spec spinning rod and for t-rigs,worms and jigs and its a great rod for the full price and even better on sale. I've also used it for frogs and heavier top water lures and while thats not the intended usage of the rod it has handle everything very well. My rod is going on 2 yrs now without one issue and it is very sensitive be it with braid, co-polymer or fluoro.
  6. Right now its a watermelon or green pumkin fat ika dipped in JJ's magic rigged upside down with a worm rattle inserted. It normally gets the job done when nothing else will pull the fish.
  7. I have the supreme xt and it is a great reel and hasn't given me any problems so far and is nice and light but I've only had it 2 months but it has seen usage 4-5 days a week and has performed flawlessly. I also have the Quantum catalyst pt both A & B and the kinetic pt with the A catalyst being roughly 5 years old and working great but it is heavier than the catalyst B. The B is about 3 years old and so is the kinetic and both see solid use with no problems or issues. They are smooth and durable with only some paint blemishes but they perform each time i grab one of them. They all can be found on ebay for less than $100 i'm sure. Good luck on whichever reel you choose as you have some very good choices.
  8. I haven't had any problems with mine either at this point.
  9. I live near Cabelas and BPS and usually hit Cabelas since its within 10 min but I'll order off ebay and also hit TW for an order as well.
  10. Ok this is one of the Big Bass formats and you can be on your spot early as he was saying but no wet lines til you get a text message or the start over the radio. Let the boater make the decision and you already took the advice to go to braid. Good Luck
  11. I have a: Quantum Superlite 7'11" telescoping rod ($60 New off ebay) Quantum Accurist PT 501 ($60 New off Ebaby) The rod I caught on sale from one of the sellers on ebay after reading a tackle tour review of the rod and also got the reel after a review as well and the reel has 50# braid.
  12. I have 7 baitcast and 6 spinning outfits and soon to be 7 spinning outfits in another week. I fish from the shore mainly and with obstacles on the shore using a spinning setup was more practical but I did want to learn to use a baitcast setup so I added them later. I fish from the shore still and also fish tournaments not and I take a baitcaster out with me each time I go but my main rods are still my spinning rods. Practice with them is a must if you plan to be good with them but so far my spinning rods have handled everything I fish. I've learned to flip and pitch with my casting reels but also do it with my spinning reels as well. I still get the occasional "backlash" but I keep a pick with me and have learned how to get them out also. The fish in my avatar at the time was a PB at 4.5 close to 5lbs and caught her in the slop on a frog with 6 lb Cajun Red Mono on a 6'6" MH/F Cabelas XML with a Quantum Kinetic. I have spinning rods that range from Med to Heavy with one spool with either a co polymer or flouro on it and the other spool with 30 - 50lbs braid.
  13. I'm up and out for most of my fishing trips by 5 or 5:30 a.m. and enjoy the peaceful part of the morning after a hectic work week of getting up around the same time. My PB came close to 10 a.m. as well but I like to get up and get out early so I'm back home to relax the rest of the day.
  14. I enjoy them at the 2-2.5lb mark more than the dinks now but have had a 5-5.5lb fish in a couple of the smaller local lakes and those get a photo op chance.
  15. I fish SK cranks and others and always switch out the hooks to triple grips on almost every crank I fish. I have a couple of LC cranks and have had some success but it's been limited and it may be my color selection. I fish the 1XS mainly during the spring in he Gizzard Shad,Tennessee Shad and Sexy Shad with the GS and TS working very well during those times and any time I can swim them over submerged grass I've done very well. The colors all have their time and place but SK cranks work very well and the hookup ratio is better to me once the hooks are changed out and I prefer the mustad triple grips.
  16. Great choices and never handled the Shimano but I have 10 Quantums and the Smoke is a great reel and my next B/C as well so I would go with the Quantum
  17. I would feel naked without my spinning gear and manage to use both at times but the spinning gear gets the major share of the usage.
  18. I want a longer spinning rod in the MH/F or EF range for Texas rigs, jigs and other lighter plastics use off the back of the boat. I ran across these two as I like the lengths and the prices aren't bad with the Sellus being $60 and the Convergence being $70 and not looking to spend over $125. I figure the extra length would give me a bit more distance on the casts with the rods and a good hookset also with the MH. They would both be used with either 8 lbs Pline CXX or 15-30 lbs braid. The Sellus has Aluminum Oxide guides while the Convergence has Fuji Aluminum Oxide guides. The line ratings for both are exactly the same for Mono 8-14# and PowerPro Braid 5-30# and the lure weights for both are exactly the same as well at 3/16-5/8oz. Warranty:Convergence = Over the counter limited lifetime warranty Sellus = 1 year warranty Any suggestions on these two rods or recommendations would be appreciated.
  19. Shallow or mid diving crankbait
  20. Hey RawThumb and glad you guys did well at Shelbyville and read about it and heard about the storms and things after talking with Lee. He is a great guy and was very apologenic about the ramp change situation and worked with me as far as another event. I made the Cal Sag event and bunch of great guys and really had a good time at the event.
  21. Green Pumpkin w/wo black fleck and Watermelon w/Gold & Black fleck
  22. The Cabelas Prodigy 7' MH/MF PDC705-1 1/4-1oz is right at $100 and should work well for you.
  23. How did you do? Myself I caught three but they were all around 12-13" so for my first tourney is was a good outing and my boater was great in everyway for a first event. Next time I plan to put some over 14" in the boat
  24. Good Luck and rain gear if it's a slight chance of a weather change and also snacks and water or something to drink. Glasses, sunblock if needed and some outerwear for the early morning. My first BFL is this weekend also and getting my things together as well and Good Luck
