  1. My deep cranking rod is a Cabelas Prodigy PDC705-1 7'MH/MF 1/4-1oz and it handles SK 6XD's pretty well so far.
  2. I have one and its a 7'11" Quantum Superlite telescopic rod paired with a Quantum Accurist 101HPT with 50# Cajun Braid but haven't used this combo at all this season.
  3. Nice Rod as I have the same one I use for deep diving cranks in a MH and thanks for posting the videos.
  4. Welcome and I fish in a league with some guys from one bass club and they are pretty good guys.
  5. I've used the Cabelas brand which is pretty good and easy on the wallet and also their X50 flouro which is made by Seaguar http://www.cabelas.com/product/Fishing/Fishing-Line/Fluorocarbon%7C/pc/104793480/c/104719680/sc/104338080/X50-Fluorocarbon-Line-by-Seaguar/1156281.uts?destination=%2Fcatalog%2Fbrowse%2Ffishing-fishing-line-fluorocarbon%2F_%2FN-1100385%2FNs-CATEGORY_SEQ_104338080%3FWTz_l%3DUnknown%253Bcat104793480%253Bcat104719680&WTz_l=Unknown%3Bcat104793480%3Bcat104719680%3Bcat104338080 $22.99 for a 15# spool of 250 yds and using 12# for cranking and c rigging.
  6. Hello and welcome to the board Mark and there are some great people here with plenty of advice and knowledge.
  7. I just purchased a PQ 5.2:1 off ebay for $50 and got to use it this weekend for a tourney and fishing deep cranks 5xd and other 14'-18' cranks and the reel worked very well.
  8. I've purchased a number of reels off ebay using paypal s well as rods and lures with no issues at all.
  9. After fishing plastics yesterday I decided to try the craw crank as the lake is low and weedy with the crank running right over the tops of the weeds and after 4-6 casts I had caught 4 fish.
  10. After fishing plastics yesterday I decided to try the craw crank as the lake is low and weedy with the crank running right over the tops of the weeds and after 4-6 casts I had caught 4 fish.
  11. I fish them weightless the majority of the time as well and if I do fish them weighted I have used a 1/16 oz weighted swimbait 5/0 EWG at times. I've had more success though with them weightless and rigged backwards. The worm rattle helps in dingy to stained water and even muddy water with the tentacles dipped in JJ's magic. Good Luck
  12. I use it for all presentations and started using it in the one clear lake I fish with the ika falling into the grass and really worked well and now I add one most times I use it.
  13. After reading the article by RW I got a bunch of the Fat Ikas and learned to fish them and they are my GO too plastic lure when nothing else seems to work. Maybe its my confidence in them but they are the first plastic lure I reach for when I'm out and keep one on a rod. I usually rig them up backwards like in the pic with a worm rattle inserted inside them on a 5/0 EWG hook. I tried them with a 4/0 EWG hook but kept getting missed hook ups with them. They have produced my largest tourney fish to date of 3.23lbs and I've also fished them on a weighted swimbait hook and had they produce as well.
  14. I admit they caught my eye but they have caught fish for me as well. I've used the shallow craw crank in mustard running over shallow grass during the spring and before the heat wave to pull fish up and gotten hits when others couldn't fishing the same area. The bluegill cranks in the gloss pattern have also produced for me very well.
  15. I have a couple of these cranks as well and in the gloss pattern which after reading a review work better than the flat patterns at least up my way. They are killer in the depths they run and have caught plenty of fish for me and so have the craw cranks. The shallow craw crank in mustard fished over shallow grass has really produced for me and they have been worth the extra expense and found some on ebay at less than msrp.
  16. I have a 7'6" Field & Stream Tec Spec telescoping worm and jig rod as well as a 7'11" Quantum Superlite pinching and flipping rod and once they are extended and the guides are lined up with the reel seat they feel just like any other one piece rod. I haven't had the 7'11" out much but the Tec Spec rod feels great and for the price of less than $50 on sale it has great sensitivity as well. I've only caught a couple of small fish but it appears to have enough backbone to handle just about anything I will encounter.
  17. Welcome to the boards and I'm from the south suburbs as well in Calumet City and Tampier may be a good place to try your kayak also.
  18. Thanks for the information
  19. Anyone been back to Clinton to fish there lately? if so how is it fishing deep cranks or jigs or getting bites in the shallows and hitting it this weekend.
  20. Hello and welcome to the board and fish Rend and Shelbyville for tourneys down that way.
  21. I've gone from bank fishing to tourny fishing and have a number of combos that probably overlap out of the 14 combos I have right now but I'll list the ones I take out when I'm on the boat. Cabelas XMLTi 7' M/F / Quantum Energy PT - Carolina Rig/ Cabelas Prodigy 7' MH/MF / Quantum Energy PTxm(PBS PQ 5.2:1 replacement reel) - Deep Cranking Field & Stream Tec Spec 7'6" MH/XF / Daiwa Exceler 7.1:1 - Heavy jigs/T rigs Cabelas Prodigy 7' M/F / Quantum Catalyst PTi-B20 - Shallow 1' to 8' Cranks Field & Stream Tec Spec 7' MH/F / Quantum PTi-20B - Lighter Jigs/T-rigs/Shakey Head Cabelas XMLTi 6'8" M/XF / Pflueger Supreme XT - Drop Shot These are the 6 combos that have made every tourney trip so far this season with the top three being casting and the bottom 3 spinning combos. I have other combos that have made one or two trips but these cover all but the really heavy cover situations. In those situaltions I have on standby: Quantum Superlite PT 7'11" H/XF / Quantum Accurist / 50# Braid - Heavy cover Cabelas XML 7' H/F / Quantum Accurist 501 / 50# Braid - Heavy cover
  22. Congrats and that is a great looking boat!!
  23. Go to the tournament locater on the FLW site and put in the league u want to fish and the zip and it will let you know if any are within that time range or distance from the zip code.
  24. Great review of the reel and just purchased one myself in the 5.2:1 version for deep cranking and it should last me at least that long since I only get to deep crank during tournament season.
  25. Fishing a tournament on the Kankakee on 7/15 near the Des Plaines conservation area this weekend and getting out on the lake at first light so we can be off the lake before the high temps hit. We'll see how it goes being out that early.
