  1. I didn't have one problem with mine and only sold it cause I added some other reels and thought it would be a way for someone to pick up a half decent rod and reel from the board cheap. I didn't have any problems with the twitchin bar either and caught a couple of LM using the bar and a shakey head. It was a great reel with not one problem.
  2. I didn't have a problem when I set the hook on the Northern I caught but I had read about the reel seats and not to over tighten them or you could crack the seat. I'll have to try to tape on the rod to keep it from unscrewing if I have that problem next time out.
  3. Thinking about getting myself one for the same reason
  4. I agree the reel seat sucks being that it's plastic and you have to make sure you don't overtighten or you can split the seat.
  5. Check with Reel Mechanic I'm sure he can let u know what it might be and if its worth it to fix
  6. Ok I would have to go with KVD, Edwin Evers, Jay Yelas and Jason Quinn as my favorites and also Bill Dance
  7. Thought I would try the rod and reel combo again since its getting warmer here at one of the park district lakes today. After getting hung up in the grass with a medium diving crank I switched to a shallow diver to run just nipping the top of the weeds. I hit some grass and rip it through and caught an 18" northern. I thought it was a bass til it jumped and I got it closer to the shore. The rod handled the fish great and the fish snapped my 8# CXX while I was getting a glove to unhook it and took my lure with it when it broke off. The rod is a great crankbait rod for the price and very sensitive and again handled the fish without a problem.
  8. I have more spinning rods than I have reels. I changed out some rods for better matched combos with some of my reels and that kinda created the extra rods. Then I picked up the new Berkley Amp to try and that put a Cabelas XML in the corner. I guess I need to pick up a reel or two to go with those other XML's
  9. Ok lets see I have 2 BC setups with my Prodigy and Quantum Accurist PT. Just sold my Daiwa Megaforce and picked up Quantum Energy PT but no rod for it yet. Spinning-wow ok I have 5 setups Daiwa Regal/Cabelas Tourney Trail, Quantum Kinetic PTI-B/Berkley Amp, BPS Viper/Daiwa Rod, Shimano Sahara/Cabelas XML I also have 2 Cabelas XML rods, a Berkley Amp and a Cabelas Fish Eagle II with no reels on them...Guess its time for another couple of reel purchases.
  10. I don't have a Tierra or Soron but my brother has the Soron 10 and I tried it over the weekend and it is a very smooth reel. He has braid on it and it wasn't a problem at all but the biggest fish he caught was 2lbs and really didn't put any strain on the reel at all.
  11. I'm within 30-45 driving time of both Cabelas and BPS and pretty much get everything from Cabelas. They have better sales to me and the layaway keeps my purchases going thru the off season. Gotta go with Cabelas and love there customer service also
  12. Best decision I ever made was to leave the cheap ebay rods alone and invest in some better rods and reels. Me and my brothers do our own type of 3 man tournament for the fishing season mainly from the shore. The first year I caught a total of 8 fish with some guidance from them. Then over the off season I subscribed to a couple of fishing magazines and sites and read up on the equipment and techniques. Last year I caught a total of 54 fish with a PB of 4#. All do to better equipment and more knowledge
  13. Sorry for your loss Spanky and that was one of the best post I have ever read also. I'm in kinda the same boat with my sons mom bad mouthing me but I get both my kids every weekend and have since they were very very small. I have always wanted to be a part of there lives and enjoy each and every minute we spend together. My dad taught me to fish and I picked the hobby up a couple years ago again from my brothers. I share it with my son on the warmer months and we both enjoy visits to Cabelas and Bass Pro Shops. He now has his own equipment and that bond of those weekends I agree will last a lifetime. I keep things positive as your father did and just enjoy the time with my kids as he did with you and your siblings. Thanks for the very positive message and again sorry for your loss
  14. I had one and actually just sold it thru the flea market here. The reel worked pretty good and I actually did use the twitchin bar to catch a couple fish while sight fishing. I only used it for jigs and shakey head worms and it worked pretty well for me.
  15. The Cabelas Prodigy is a great reel made by Daiwa and even better when you can catch them on sale or clearance. I would check them out and this was my first baitcaster and is still in my arsenal.
  16. As long as you have the receipt they will replace it and of course the remaining piece of the rod. I had a similar experience with Cabelas rod and it was replaced no questions asked.
  17. I have the Shimano Sahara 1000 and have only had it out once but it a very nice reel.
  18. I have 30# on both my Quantum and Prodigy and probably light as I would go and guess it would depend on where u are fishing it also. Some of the pros recommend nothing less than 50# if you are fishing heavy cover.
  19. Check either of these links: http://www.daiwafishing.com.au/daiwa.cfm?page=rods&rods=lighttackle&product=Heartland-XA http://www.daiwafishing.com.au/daiwa.cfm?page=rods&rods=lighttackle&product=heartland Good Luck
  20. I think everyone here started with that Zebco 202
  21. No the actions aren't listed and I would say the best way to tell would be hands on. I agree that those actions and think my 6'6" M is a mod. action. Far as comparison to the crucial I really couldn't say since the majority of my rods are Cabelas with the exception of the Berkley Amp I just added to try as a crankbait rod. I'm sure ghost can give you a better answer also
  22. They are great rods and when you can get them on sale or clearance even a better deal. I got my XMLTi on clearance for $89 as well and love the actions and sensitivity of them all.
  23. I have 2 of the XML spinning and they are great rods and even better when you catch them on sale as you did. I have 2 6'6" M and they are great and very sensitive and have a great warranty from Cabelas.
  24. Hello and welcome to the boards and nice to see someone else from Illinois joining the boards. I see we have something in common as far as Quantum being our favorite reel brand. I don't have the Tour Edition but do have a Energy PT and Accurist PT baitcasters. I also have the Catalyst PTI-A,Kinetic PTI-B and a older Quantum Incyte and love them. Again welcome
  25. 1.White 2.White/Chartreuse 3.Black Honorable Mention White/Red...Bleeding
