  1. I picked up my worm/jig rod yesterday and they gave me the protective tube and rod sleeve which was a nice touch. I pulled the rod out to mount my Quantum Accurist PT on it and noticed the rod is a Heavy and not a MH as advertised on the site. The rod feels pretty good but I would have preferred the MH over the Heavy. They usually have the sale when they are bringing out a newer model of the rods or discontinuing a rod.
  2. Yeah looks like they pulled them off clearance today cause I check the site last night and all the technique specific rods were still on clearance. Too bad cause I did want the spinnerbait rod but my worm/jig rod is in and I'll be picking it up today
  3. I now have 6 of the XML rods all of which I purchased at sale prices way below the original $139. The rods are worth the $139 and Cabelas does stand behind there rods with the warranty. The latest rod for me as I have said is a 6'6" MH worm/jig 1pc which should fit into my Chevy Blazer without a problem and it is my first 1 pc rod. I landed a couple of small LMB on my XML ML setup the other day without a problem. They are great rods and the sale price makes them even a better deal
  4. Yeah the XML technique specific rods are still on sale at HUGE savings but last week they were basically all at those discount prices. You can order one of those and have it shipped to the store and only pay the taxes on it. They are great rods and love the Cabelas warranty
  5. I agree with you bout calling to check and see if they have them in stock since they have been on clearance for awhile now. I just ordered the XML and also had it shipped to the store to pick up and total cost $32.09 for the 6'6" MH worm/jig rod
  6. If you can print out the page from the internet to show to the clerks there so they can price match from the site. Sometimes the prices on the site are not reflected in the store and the Prodigy B/C is nice and I think its on sale also for $75 and normally $100.
  7. I have always had 2 pc B/C rods for the ease of traveling since I don't have a boat and fish from the shore. I think when u get into the better made rods as people have said on other posts the difference in sensitivity and feel is less noticeable. I have a Fish Eagle II and a XMLTi that are my 2 pc B/C rods but just added an XML 1 pc with the Cabelas sale that hasn't arrived yet.
  8. I have the Cabelas Mag Touch in a 2 pc model and I like it very much. Its a good sturdy rod and nice and great sensitivity. I have a 2 pc spinning model and I haven't had any issues with it getting wet and being slippery. The handle may take some getting used to since it's not as thick as a rod with a cork handle but other than that its a very good rod and even better at the sale price.
  9. I just checked the Cabelas website and looks like the XML rods are going back to their regular prices. I see only a couple of the regular rods are still at the discount prices but all of the technique specific rods are still on sale. Just another heads up
  10. I have a total of 5 now with the one I just ordered today and it will be 6 in a couple weeks. I have 4 spinning and 1 BC and I'm very pleased with the spinning models and the Cabelas warranty. Normally like you said they are $139 but on clearance for next years models. I like the blanks, the actions and very sensitive. I have heard others say they are a bit heavy but I don't feel that way (guess its all the gym time). I have 4 spinning as I said a 6'6" M rig/jig,6'6" M,7' ML and 7'MH. I just ordered the 6'6" MH worm/jig which is my first 1 pc rod. If you can have them shipped to the store and pick them up there you will save the $40 in shipping charges
  11. The last time I ordered a 2pc rod and had it shipped to the store it was packaged the exact same way and the clerks asked if I wanted to keep the shipping tube also. I didn't keep the shipping tube but I also had this latest purchase shipped to the store and only paid the $2.09 in taxes but no shipping fees.
  12. Check out this thread : http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1246539286 and the other started by Catt These should give you plenty of ideas
  13. Just ordered my first 1pc rod which is the XML 6'6" Model:C66WJ Worm/Jig rod which is normally $139 but with in store pickup now $32.09 which is a steal. Gotta get myself one of the 7ft 2pc either MH or H rods and then the baitmonkey will be off my back at under $100
  14. Glad you decided to take it back and yeah I had the same thing happen with a Cabelas rod and they did the same thing with telling me to go find the rod and made it and even exchange. Glad to see you are back on the water
  15. as of right now i only have the BPS Extreme rod to compare to. (beginner in the whole baitcasting world). how does this compare? i would like a rod that is very sensitive. would this work? i just looked this up and the rod is $40, originally $140 I've never used a BPS Extreme but think the Cabelas rod would be one step up from the BPS Extreme and along the lines of or maybe just under the Johnny Morris Signature series of rods. The XML is next to the Cabelas top of the line XMLTi. The rod is very sensitive with both braid, mono and fluoro and available in both regular grip and split grip specialty models. They are available in all powers and most are around $40 and some have said they are a bit on the heavy side but I don't think so.
  16. Great List and I agree something for both the newbies and experienced guys to check out
  17. Check out the Cabelax XML casting rods on deep discounts now http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/standard-item.jsp?id=0053033122637a&navCount=0&podId=0053033&parentId=cat21428&masterpathid=&navAction=jump&cmCat=cat21406_feat&catalogCode=9IS&rid=&parentType=index&indexId=cat21428&hasJS=true
  18. I can't speak on the Shimano but I do have the Quantum Energy and it's a great reel and I got a ebay deal on mine as well and performs well on a 6'6" Cabelas MH XMLTi. I'm able to use it with some lighter lures with no problem and the reel is nice n smooth.
  19. Sure RW will chime in but the 8lb will probably have lots of unwanted memory but try the KVD line and lure conditioner on it to cut down on the memory.
  20. Yeah I think the rod is worth the $140 original asking price and they usually go on sale when they are bringing out and updated model. Kinda like the Cabelas XMLTi rods which normally are $190 but are also on clearance. You can't beat the price now though to get one or two
  21. I have a Sahara 1000 and it's a pretty good reel. It's very smooth and of course very light being the 1000 size but it is also graphite which I have heard others say isn't good but I haven't had any problems with flex since the fish I have caught with it haven't been big enough to cause a problem. It's a great all around reel and very solid for the $80 price point. I have mine paired with a 7ft Cabelas XML ML.
  22. I have the Prodigy BC on a Fish Eagle II and 3 of the XML spinning rods and they are both great values. The Prodigy was my second BC and it's a good reel for the money made by Daiwa at the time I got mine and had it for a couple of years and no problems with it at all. The XML spinning reels are all very sensitive and I have a rig/jig 6'6" M, a 7ft M and another 6'6" M and they are all very light and very sensitive. The reel seats are solid and at the price that makes them even a better deal with the Cabelas warranty. I'll be picking up my first 1 pc rod and a 7ft MH BC rod while they are on sale
  23. Thanks for that information.I'm looking for a cheap spinning rod suitable for cranks....now comes the hard part in convincing the wife why i need one more rod. ;D Lightening rods are for budget anglers who really can't afford to spend big bucks right now. They do get the job done, they lack in some departments of quality and sensitivity. For their price range it's to be expected. I'm using the Berkley Amp as a crankbait rod and have it paired with a Quantum Kinetic PTI-B20 spinning reel and its my go to setup with the combo being very light (at least to me). It has plenty of backbone as well and caught my PB 3lb LM on it.
  24. Glad I could help and I'll be getting my first 1 pc rod and also a 7ft MH and yeah its a great deal
  25. Hey BRR, The "Shock" and the "Amp" are pretty good for the price and I got to hold one of the few "Shocks" that the local bait shop had but they quickly sold out and had them on backorder also. They also sold out of the Amps and had to order one offline. The Amp is my crankbait rod and feels good and is a nice rod for the price point of $39 shipped to my door. Some people don't like the reel lock down mechanism cause they say it tends to work loose during a fight and has to be contantly tightened down but I haven't had that problem at all. Again for the price its a pretty good rod
