  1. LOL said the same thing to my wife as well but I've held out pretty good so far but thinking a new rod and reel may make it into the arsenal pretty soon.
  2. Glad I could help and yeah at that price it was very hard to beat for me also.
  3. Here is the rod: http://www.ebay.com/itm/QUANTUM-SUPERLITE-PT-QTC7117F-711-HEAVY-BAITCAST-ROD- /310410592915?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4845e9c293:
  4. These are my 2 Flipping rod setups. 1. 7'6" MH/EF Field & Stream Tec Spec Telescopic Flipping and Pitching rod paired with a Daiwa Exceler 7.X.1 reel with 15# Cabelas XPS.50 Flouro 2. 7'11" H/EF Quantum Superlte PT 1/2-2 oz. Telescopic Flipping and Pitching rod paired with a Quantum Accurist HPT 7.0:1 reel with 50# power pro. This rod is a beast and don't think it will have any trouble handling anything I run into while I'm out.
  5. I fished 3 of the Illini BFL events this year and they were all good experiences but I have heard some experiences will be good while others won't be so good. I learned alot from each of the boaters I fished with as they shared tips and even lures at times on the water. If you have never loaded a boat off or onto a trailer its an experience as well as driving a vehicle and parking one with a trailer and boat was something very new to me. I would suggest you find someone to go in with you as a co-angler if you plan to go that route to share the room and gas expenses as the bfl meetings are the night before the event and this will cut your cost and expenses.
  6. I have a couple of the Tec Spec rods and they are great rods for the price and I actually caught them both on sale for $49 with either the $10 off coupon or the in store $10 off sale. I have the 7' MH/F Tub/Jig spinning rod which I toss everything except crankbaits on this rod. It has been my go to rod for all types of plastics both weightless and weighted. I have also used the rod to toss larger topwater lures with great results as well, The rod has plenty of backbone and is very sensitive with either braid, mono or flouro. I also have the 7'6" MH/EF Telescopic flipping rod which is great as well with both enough length and backbone to handle just about any cover you run into. Its rated for 1/4 to 1 oz so it can handle most any lure with ease. Great car in the profile pic as I had a couple of the fox body mustangs myself.
  7. Looking over my rods I actually have 4 setups I can use for jig fishing: 1. 7' MH/F Field & Stream Tec Spec eTub & Jig spinning rod paired with a Quantum Kinetic PTi-B20 with 15# Braid for lighter jigs and t-rigs. This combo sees alot of water time. 2. 6'6" H/F Cabelas XMLC Rig & Jig 3/8-2 oz paired with a Quantum Accurist 501PT with 30# power pro. The rod is about 2 yrs old and was mislabled as MH when I ordered it but has worked out well. 3. 7'6" MH/EF Field & Stream Tec Spec Telescopic Flipping and Pitching rod paired with a Daiwa Exceler 7.X.1 reel with 15# Cabelas XPS.50 Flouro 4. 7'11" H/EF Quantum Superlte PT 1/2-2 oz. Telescopic Flipping and Pitching rod paired with a Quantum Accurist HPT 7.0:1 reel with 50# power pro. This rod is a beast and don't think it will have any trouble handling anything I run into while I'm out. All my combos are less than $150 or and planning to possibly add a 7'3" MH rod in the future but right now these handle everything with combo #2 & 4 seeing the least amount of water time so far.
  8. My frog rod is a Quantum Superlite PT 7'11" H/F casting rod but I have also used my 7' MH/F Field & Stream Tec Spec with good results. The Superlite was purchased off ebay for $75 and that same store now has them for $87 total with the shipping cost.
  9. I have the previous generation Quantum Energy with the color shift that I purchased used 3-4 yrs ago and its working very well and without a problem.
  10. I've fished them without and issue on both the spinning and casting side of things. I haven't had an issue whether I have purchased them new or used with maintenance and have found some great deals as well on ebay. You will get alot of opinions either way as this becomes a heated topic at times but if u get one off ebay and don't like it let me know I'd be happy to take it off your hands.
  11. If you are looking for a budget rod check out the Dicks Field & Stream Tec Spec line of rods. They have a 7'3" MHF Elite casting rod with micro guides and a 7'6" MH/EF telescopic rod which may work and keep you under $100 for either rod.
  12. I can believe it as the last couple of times I've been there its fished that way and I have one more event there before the b.a.s.s. guys come in for their event next month and I wanna see how well they do there also.
  13. Wow you have almost as many pitching/flipping setups as I do complete setups for all my fishing.
  14. Anyone fished lake springfield lately? Got a 2 day event there are the end of the month and wondering how to fish it and where the fish migh be or is fishing deep the best option. Thanks
  15. I have the 6'6" M spinning rod and true the grip does take some getting used to but I've never had it slip out of my hand while casting the rod. I've used the rod for plastics and light jigs and it is very sensitive. Haven't fished it much with spinnerbaits but I'll take it out tomorrow and let you know how well it does with those also.
  16. Last 2 times I was at Shelbyville it took 15lbs and 10lbs those events and fish were caught on the rip rap near the dam on a wacky rigged worm and on squarebill cranks along the rip rap near the bridge. Some were also caught deep on a C-rig with green pumpkin and a small touch of jj's on the end of a craw.
  17. When I go out now fishing for a tourney I take 6 rods with me fishing as a co-angler and some of them serve dual purpose with the deep cranking rod at times being used for lipless crankbaits. I take a C-rig rod, shallow crank, deep diving crank, a casting jig/t-rig rod and a spinning jig/t-rig rod and they pretty much cover anything I might encounter on the water. The only one that is truly a dedicated rod is the C-rig setup.
  18. I have a couple of the Field and Stream Tec Spec rods from Dicks and got them both for $49.99 with the $10 off coupon Dicks usually has floating around. I have the 7' MH/F Rig&Jig spinning model and the 7'6" MH/XF Casting rod that I use for jigs and plastics also. Great price and very sensitive rods for the price.
  19. I have 2 crankbait rods that I use right now with another rod with no reel on it at this time. My shallow crankbait rod is a Cabelas Prodigy 7' M/F spinning rod which has work pretty well for me PDS704-2 1/4-3/4 oz. and It's paired with a Quantum Catalyst PTi-B20. It handles things upto about 8-9ft and is what I use when fishing from the shore most of the time as well as on the boat in a tourney when fishing shallow. My deep cranking rod is a Cabelas Prodigy 7' MH/MF casting rod PDC705-1 1/4-1oz. since my deeper diving cranks like the SK 6XD are heavier and its paired with a BPS PQ 5.2:1 and as someone else said I want to be able to set the hook on a fish in deeper water and feel the MH will help me do that as well as control the fish once its hooked.
  20. Hello and welcome to the board...
  21. I haven't seen or heard of any talk of guys using it at any of the events I have fished either. I do have one and on most waters here you can only have lures on 2 of the 5 attachment points.I tossed it a couple of times at one event and agree it can wear you out tossing it all day as from just my limited experience it was a workout. I ended up putting it down after a backlash so bad I had to cut line and it wasn't productive but again it was very limited usage with it for me.
  22. I have 2 crankbait rods that I use right now with another rod with no reel on it at this time. My shallow crankbait rod is a Prodigy 7' M/F spinning rod which has work pretty well for me PDS704-2 1/4-3/4 oz. My deep cranking rod is a Prodigy 7' MH/MF casting rod PDC705-1 1/4-1oz. since my deeper diving cranks like the SK 6XD are heavier and as someone else said I want to be able to set the hook on a fish in deeper water and feel the MH will help me do that as well as control the fish once its hooked.
  23. The 1st year has been a learning experience to say the least. I've had a 9,10 and 11th place finish in some events and others I've drawn a zero but have caught fish just not the length needed. Learned some new techniques such a C-rigging and finally able to get and use some deep diving cranks as well. Learning about boat position and reading the imaging screens as well. All in all it has been a good season as far as "My" goals but its been rough at times as well on those days when you get "no" hits and second guess yourself and your skills but sure everyone goes through those things. Looking forward to my next two events with one on Lake Springfield and the other on Lake Shelbyville as the season ending event.
  24. I use either a Owner Twistlock 5/0 EWG or a Mustad 5/0 EWG hook with the Ika rigged backwards normally with the hook exposed since I haven't encountered much snagging on the hook end. I tried the 4/0 EWG hook and had the same problem with missed hookups and just switched back to the 5/0 and problem solved. I also insert a worm rattle and more of a confidence builder for me but I have caught fish on them with or without the rattle.
  25. I have 2 telescoping rods a 7'11" Quantum Superlite H/F and a Field & Stream Tec Spec 7'6" MH/F worm and jig rod with the Tec Spec getting alot more use and holding up just fine.
