  1. I think it also has to do with the amount of interest from the host city, town or community as well. I know they held a B.A.S.S. event here in the Chicago area some time ago and from what I read there just wasn't as big a turn out or following at the event. Granted the short season and other species being fished here are also a factor as others have mentioned.
  2. You can find the the older model Quantum Accurist PT on ebay for $60 or less at times. It's a very solid reel and comes with the flipping which. You can read up on the regular model on TackleTour and the PT is a step up on that model.
  3. I read something on tackletour regarding the live target lures and the flat vd glossy finish. In the article is said something to the effect of the flat finish getting more catches in clearer water vs the glossy finish being better in stained or murky water.
  4. My wife enjoys Cabelas as much as I do and wants to go each time I go now and gets a bit upset if I make the trip without her. She wanted a smoker so I told her we would go this weekend and she wanted to have lunch there as well. I was at BPS the day before with my brothers and picked her up a BPS shirt which she wore to Cabelas, lol as some of the salesmen ribbed her about the shirt choice. We got her smoker and I wanted to take a look at the Cabelas micro guide rods. I did and we went and had lunch and during lunch there she said I should get the rod. We went back to take a look and a salesman came over and she asked him how many fishing setups he had, his response was 40. She said wow and asked how many I had and I said 10-12 and she said go ahead and put the rod on layaway and I'll get it out. So new rod will be out next week thanks to the wifey. Glad she likes Cabelas
  5. I have one of the Green models made by Daiwa as well and if the new performs anything like the older models then its a good reel.
  6. The Hammond, IN. store got the micro guide rods in and my wife convinced me to go ahead and put the PDMC705-1 7' MH/F 1/4-1 oz rod on layaway as a early spring fishing present. She talked with one of the salesman about the number of fishing setups he had and when he said 40, she smiled and said go ahead and get it. It will be out just in time for that first outing and they are on sale for $79.99.
  7. I've gone down to 1/4 oz. crankbaits with the daiwa exceler mounted on a kistler mag ts with 12# mono.
  8. rods-cabelas and kistler reels-quantum and daiwa line-cabelas flouro and power pro braid hard baits-strike king, rapala and Xcalibur soft plastics-strike king rage tail, yum storage-plano
  9. I fish from the shore as well and most of my BC rods are 7' but I do have one 6'6" setup as well.
  10. Hit BPS in Bolingbrook, IL for the classic and Cabelas in Hammond, IN for there version of the classic this weekend and both were sold out of the KVD 1.5 & 2.5 in almost all colors. Cabelas had 3 left on the shelves and BPS had 2 left.
  11. All the above mentioned advise is very good I agree as well. Try the Daiwa Exceler or the older model Quantum Accurist PT as well. It can be had for new $60 or less on ebay and is a very solid reel. It also has the flipping switch you won't need right now but maybe down the line.
  12. I push myself to be better but my 2 brothers also push me to be better as they have been fishing alot longer than me so I push to out fish them anytime we are out.
  13. If you mean Fireline Crystal then yes I have tried it and as someone said all braid is visible in water but in clear water the crystal is very very visible.
  14. 15. You are going to get answers in regards to all the current quality reels out there in a specific price range. Check out the offerings from Abu, BPS, Cabelas, Daiwa, Dicks, Gander Mountain, Quantum and Shimano and get what feels good to You and in your hands. Every company has made a lemon now and then so my opinion on a brand or specific reel may vary from someone else.
  16. If this is the BPS exclusive BC Black model I agree that would push me away as well. I purchased one of the spinning models and as I said before it was a second choice to the Catalyst B I actually wanted but went cheaper. It spent a half a day out on the water before it was back at BPS with me getting the Catalyst B which is now 2 yrs old without a problem.
  17. A step down but used by the all-time money winner on the Bassmaster Tournament trail, who has earned more than $5 million beginning 2011, captured four Bassmaster Classic titles (2001,2005, 2010, and 2011) and six Toyota Tundra Angler of Year titles (1992, 96, 99, 08, '09 and 10). He has earned berths in 21 consecutive Classics since he turned full-time pro in 1992, the longest running Classic qualification streak of any active pro. In 222 career Bassmaster events, he's won 20, finished second 11 times and landed in the top 10 an amazing 91 times! After all that, how does one have a perception that this tackle is in any way inferior to anything ? :-? A-Jay By no means was I trying to imply Quantum products were of an inferior quality. It was meant as a joke more than anything, hence the . Still, I would bet that if you were to poll a random selection of anglers the majority would rank Quantum below Shimano, Daiwa and (probably) Abu. Does that mean they truly are inferior? No, of course not. That's just an opinion and I have 0 data to back it up so who knows, I could be way off base. Maybe it is just the group of fishermen I'm around--I'm not sure. As far as KVD goes, I doubt Quantum products are the contributing factor to his success. I think you would see him performing the same if he used any other company's products. Who knows, maybe he could still dominate with an Ugly Stik...you may even see him fishing the Classic with one if they paid him enough ;D Ok I can agree it was your opinion and if I were to answer or was part of that pole my Quantum ranks above my Shimano spinning reel. I have both and have fished both and I rank my Quantum's #1,my Diawa's #2 and my Shimano actually my last resort spinning reel. That is just my opinion from usage and doesn't mean it's inferior but not my preferred reel on the water.
  18. I've heard this before about the reels being heavier and agree the earlier reels were heavier than other brands. Some of the newer models are lighter but is a 1 to 2 oz difference that much of a weight difference? I could be wrong in my thinking but I guess when you add in the total weight of a setup it could make a difference. Most of us have multiple setups and the weights vary with each setup and then adding the lure being used to that weight. I want the best feeling setup in my hand but I guess as technology goes more is always expected. I mean at one time a 5.x:1 reel was considered fast. Yes, it is. The newer Quantum spinning reels @ 10.7-11.1 (30 size) are a good bit heavier than the Pfluegers I'm using @ 8.5-8.8 (35 size) at roughly the same line capacity. The difference is obvious when you pick them up. Go to your terminal tackle box and grab 2 oz worth of worm weights and tell me you don't notice them in your hand. Ok I can agree in some models the Pfluegers are lighter in comparable sizes for the Supreme and Supreme XT and up reels. The President models are not as light. I use the 20 size models but I understand what you mean.
  19. I have 6# Cabelas flouro on one spinning setup and no problems at all. I tried 8# Yo Zuri and it was the slinky effect for me as well so went down to 6# and it was fine. The backup spool to both reels have braid on them.

  21. I've used Quantums for the last 4 years starting with the older model Catalyst PTi-A spinning reels. They were good but were heavy as it was noted when compared to other brands. I have since added the Catalyst PTi-B spinning reel and also the Kinetic PTi-B spinning reel. They have both performed great over the last couple of years without any problems. Both were purchased new off ebay. I also have an older model Incyte (Blue) model that has performed well that I purchased used and not a problem from it either. My baitcasters from Quantum include a Energy PT and a older model Accurist PT that I purchased after reading an article on TackleTour about the regular model Accurist. They have both been great reels with the Accurist seeing more water time than the Energy. My experience with Quantum reels has been very good. I don't have any Quantum rods so I can't speak on them. I also purchased one of the Quantum KVD (Black) model BPS spinning reels a couple years ago and found it not to be as smooth as it was a second choice after the Catalyst. I ended up taking it back and getting the Catalyst. I have Daiwa casting reels and a Shimano spinning reel as well but my Quantums have seen more time than any reels I have with no problems.
  22. They're not that heavy, really. In terms of a graphite/glass composite blank they're actually reasonably light. I've fished the 7-4 M for ripping through grass and really liked it for that purpose. I agree that rods are rather light even though looking at them they are somewhat bulky. I've handled them in BPS and was surprised at how light they felt.
  23. I caught another episode and best thing I can do is to turn the channel when its on.
