  1. Ok I'll try the Uni to Uni knot again and see how it works out this time.
  2. I'm trying to find a knot to tie braid to braid of the same diameter 30/8#. I tried the Uni to Uni but in testing it after having it tied it was breaking but not at the knot but a little further up. Does the braid cut into itself and weaken the line? Is there another good braid to braid knot that I can try? Any suggestions would be appreciated
  3. The rods are built to the specs the anglers wanted in the rods like the Biffle flipping rod he helped designed as he describes in the june issue of Bassmaster. The kvd rods are very very light and can't attest to there sensitivity as I only handled one in BPS and got a Kistler rod at a huge discount so I didn't get the kvd rod. Most of the rods can be found on ebay discounted aso.
  4. You might want to check out Dick's and take a look at the Field & Stream Tec Spec line of rods. They are normally $59.99 but there is usually a coupon online for $10.00 off the rods. I have the Tube/Jig rod and its a great rod and I use it for larger topwaters with great success.
  5. I've heard others mention the tip heavy or balance aspect also and in the store yeah I noticed those things about a particular rod. Out fishing them with lure, line and reel on the rod I have never thought about how it balanced when fighting a fish.
  6. Fishing from the shore also Cabelas Prodigy 7' M spinning rod with a Quantum Catalyst PTi-B20, 6# Cabelas Flouro(Main Spool), 30/10# Power Pro Braid(Extra Spool) Shallow and Mid cranks Field & Stream Tec Spec 7' MH Tube/Jig spinning rod with a Quantum Kinetic PTi-B20, 6# Cajun Advantage(Main Spool), 30/10# Cajun Braid(Extra Spool) jigs, topwater, spinnerbaits Cabelas XML 6'6" M spinning rod with a Quantum catalyst PTi-A20, 6# Yo-Zuri, Plastics These are the setups that see the most or have seen the most use this season. These setups below I use depending on where I'm fishing over the weekend. All my casting setups are left handed reels also. Kistler Mag TA 7' M/MF casting rod with a Quantum Kinetic PT, No line and this is a crankbait setup. Cabelas Prodigy Micro Guide 7' M/F casting rod with a Daiwa Exceler 7.1, 30/10# Cajun Braid Cabelas Prodigy 7'M/MF casting rod with a Cabelas Prodigy, 30/10# Power Pro braid Cabelas XML 6'6" H/F casting rod with a Quantum Accurist PT501, 30/10# Power Pro braid Cabelas XMLti 6'6" M/F casting rod with a Quantum Energy PT, 14# mono Cabelas Mag Touch 6'9" M/F drop shot spinning rod with a Rainbow BM1000, 30/10# Cabelas braid Cabelas Mag Touch 6'6" M/F spinning rod with a older Quantum Incyte, 8# mono
  7. I went with other as most of my rods are Cabelas brand and serve a particular need. I also have a Kistler Mag TA cranking rod and a Field & Stream Tec Spec Tube/Jig rod. So for 11 setups 9 are Cabelas rods the XMLTi,XML,Mag Touch and Prodigy.
  8. You need a MH or H rod even with the spinning setup for frogging. I use a MH Cabelas XML with a Quantum Kinetic spinning reel with 30# braid when I use a spinning reel for frogging. My casting setup is a H Cabelas XML and a Quantum Accurist 501 with 50# braid. The bass in my signature pic was caught on a spinning reel frogging with 6# cajun line and a MH rod.
  9. What zize Sahara? I wouldn't go any heavier than maybe 8# line on a spinning reel unless its braid. I tried 10# Yo Zuri once before on a spinning reel and too many memory issues.
  10. In the $60 range at Dick's the Field & Stream Tec Spec 7'Tube/jig rod is a MH but it is a spinning rod. You might want to also check out the Cabelas Prodigy micro guide rods which are $99 and the PDCMC705-1 is the 7' MH/F. I have both rods and both work very well and are very sensitive.
  11. Which lake in NW indiana? As I fish in that area as well and fish one of the Issac Walton lakes in Homewood, IL.
  12. One of the lakes I fish at is heavily weeded as well and the weed line is visible from the shore. I had never caught fish in this area fishing from the dock. One day while fishing there I watched a guy bring in 4-5 fish in the 2-3lb range with one fish being 4lbs. Next day he did the same thing and again the following day. I approached him and found out he was using a 5" Senko and doing just as you described and on some days he would be the only person I would see catching fish. This technigue does require some patience though to wait for line movement but it works.
  13. I have both one and two piece rods and they both fish very well to me so I would go with ease of transport.
  14. Try the Dick's Field & Stream Tec Spec line of rods. They are $60 and sure you can find a $10 off coupon online and add the warranty and the rod would be right around $60 again. I have the 7' MH/F Tube/jig spinning rod and it works great. Nice and sensitive with plenty of backbone and I've been using it as my topwater rod with plenty of success.
  15. Of your 3 choices I would go with either the smoke or the lews. I have heard good things about both of them and would lean towards the Smoke. They both have good reviews on TackleTour and I believe the smoke is the lighter of the two if thats a big concern. The Smoke will be my next reel and they can be found on ebay for less than $199 with some searching.
  16. I have braid on 3 of my 5 BC setups with one with mono and the other with flouro. On the main spools of my 5 spinning setups I have braid but the backup spools have either flouro or copolymer. The braid spools see more use though.
  17. I use flouro on my spinning reels and was out today with one that I use for crankbaits with 6# Cabelas flouro on a size 20 reel with no problems at all. I would stay with 6# and maybe max of 8# for the size 20 reels and as you go up in the size of the reel I'm sure you can increase line size without a problem.
  18. I have ordered rods from Cabelas previously and had them shipped to the store with the PVC tubes without a problem. Cabelas will also give you the PVC tube if you want for rods that are shipped to the store. Never had a problem with damage at all.
  19. I've only handled one in the stores and read the reviews but being how light it is I'll be adding one to my collection very very soon.
  20. My son with his first couple of fish on a shallow crankbait using one of my rods which was really to long for him but he wanted to do everything after he hooked them.
  21. Good Luck and let us know how it goes. Just looked at the MHX spinning rod kits which are on sale now.
