  1. They have only been in the store for about a week or so and just wanted to check them out and saw the writeup in F&S after handling the rod. It's super light as someone else mentioned and a step from the XML & XMLTi of which I have a couple of both of those.
  2. The Quantum Accurist PT 500/501 are good bargain reels also as you can find them on ebay NIB for usually less than $60
  3. I wasn't aware of the changes to the Legend Tournament series of rods either and if the St. Croix is your choice then so be it as I said we all chose based on what we like and enjoy.
  4. I thought the rod was light weight and with the reel I put on it the combo was extremely light. As far as the warranty goes as I believe DVT stated" the St. Croix lifetime warranty is factored into the $370-410 price" and then paid for again when you send the rod back to be inspected and replaced. I've only broken One rod in 5-6 yrs of fishing and it was my fault as I hooked into it on a cast and slammed it into the concrete and broke about 5" off the tip. A cabelas salesman told me to bring it back in and explain and I did and they replaced with for no cost with a brand new rod. Just thought I would post a mini review and recommendation since many people here shop at Cabelas.
  5. Wow, great choices and I would go with Evers, Swindle, KVD and then Skeet Reese for my 3 with an alternate.
  6. Went into Cabelas over the weekend and they had the new rods in and after talking to one of the salesman that also builds custom rods I may have to try one. He said is was a very good rod and even though he builds his own it would be one of the very few rods he would buy. The rods are extremely light and felt good with a smoke spinning reel mounted. Best New Baitcasting Rod: Cabela's Platinum ZX A new 3M High Performance Resin system was used by a few other makers last year to build graphite baitcasting rods that were stronger, lighter, and outrageously expensive (some models cost as much as $500). The new-for-2012 Platinum ZX rods employ the same resin technology—at less than half the price. Notably, these aren’t private-label rods made for the Cabela’s brand by another company. Cabela’s design team did this on its own, and did it well. Our sample rods felt very light in the hand; they were smooth-actioned, with plenty of power in the midsection and butt to handle larger fish. There are seven baitcasting models (and 12 spinning) ranging in length from 6 feet 6 inches to 7 feet, rated for lures as light as 1⁄4 ounce up to 21⁄4 ounces. Most versions are one-piece, but two models are convenient two-piece styles. --JM Manufacturer: Cabela's Price: $200
  7. Got out yesterday for a couple hours and hooked into two small bass that hit on a fat ika
  8. Just had some added to the extra spool on my spinning reel while its on sale for $13
  9. Not everyone is happy with the CI4 Comments: I bought this reel about 1month ago and its the BEST spinning reel I've bought! I used to have the Shimano Ci4 but was not happy with it not smooth at all...Shimano should price this reel for under 50 bucks....this reel is all looks and so decided to buy the XT...Very happy i got this reel...light and super smooth...paired it with a G Loomis rod and its just the reel ever so shimano u all need to step it up cuz i just returned a shimano cumara rod also and got me a Dobyns rod! Comments: I just ordered one of these awesome reels cuz my shimano ci4 was not as smooth as I thought so I'm switching to this awesome piece of machinery! I used the supreme for 5 minutes and I decided I was making the switch with no doubt! I will never buy a shimano spinning reel again...they are overrated! From: John: Rockwall, TX Comments: Bought this reel looking for somthing more comfortable than my Stradic Ci4. And I found it. Being remade from last years model, it is even lighter, and smoother. I love the braid ready spool, makes it easier to use braided line without having to put a mono backing on to prevent slippage. I have mine spooled with Suffix 832 30lb test. Buy this, you will never fish with any other spinning reel again, not even a shimano. From: Mike: Waukesha, WI
  10. True DVT and just noticed it was a "Cabelas Exclusive" line which is different.
  11. I got the XT in place of the Smoke because the Portage BPS was out when I went to pick up reels and it was my second choice. Just had it spooled with line to give it a try but the Smoke 25 is still on my list.
  12. This is from the Cabelas site: X50 Fluorocarbon Line by Seaguar X50 Fluorocarbon Line by Seaguar Cabela’s Exclusive Near-invisibility of fluorocarbon Monofilament-like softness, castability and sensitivity Low-stretch, nonabsorbent formula I stand corrected as it is just a Cabelas Exclusive line
  13. They also make Cabelas newest flourocarbon
  14. I would like to see the Classic on a station that can give in more time and see a wider assortment of anglers as well. Edwin Evers is one of my favorites as well and think he will have a break out season as others have mentioned.
  15. Cabelas also has the Prodigy Micro Guide rods for $69.99
  16. Display case models are not usually as smooth as the display models that have had some turns on them.
  17. Congrats and Nice catch
  18. Been out a couple times myself but no luck so far and water is really cold but no ice so I'll get out this weekend again for a hour or so depending on the temps.
  19. I haven't had a problem with the Quantum finishes but I fish from the shore so no boat rash issues and other than a nick or two here or there they have been pretty durable.
  20. Really nice work on the rods guys
  21. I've never had a problem with my Quantum reels either and have both spinning and casting models that have held up well for years without a problem. I have other reels in the Cabelas Prodigy, a newly purchased Plfueger Supreme XT and a Shimano Sahara. The Sahara has given me the most trouble and gets the least or no use and not a knock just my personal experience with the brand. All my Quantums are PT reels and I have one of the new Accurist PT 7.0:1 reels waiting to be spooled up with 50# braid this weekend for a flipping stick.
  22. It wasn't a review by one of the TW staff but people who had used both reels but of course everyone is subjective in the opinion of a product, I mean I like Fords and Quantums :eyebrows:
  23. True and after reading the reviews on T_ it's a better choice than the Stradic CI4 the salesman also had me take a look at and spooling it up this weekend.
  24. LOL ok and I had to tell myself something to get my seconds choice as well and I think it will work out fine for me as well.
