  1. My youth..................motown
  2. I like TFO rods, my buddy has one, now has 3. I've been with him catching bass, and snook and jacks over 10#, on the signature 7' 6/12 med. Reel good casting distance, I'd buy one.
  3. Last year I'm fishing off a dock for snook, not likely to catch one bigger than about 15# there, so I'm fishing med spinning. I hook something and my rod literally bends in half, shallow water I see a huge fin. The more the fin comes out of the water, it's a flipper with fingers, I knew what is was, I snagged a manatee. An adult manatee can go 500-2000lb(the rod didn't break), you can't stop that with anything. Within in short order the lure comes flying back. This was winter, manatee usually don' show up until the water is warmer,so you just never know. I've snagged sea turtles, manta rays, they get big too.
  4. I only fish a fluke, once in awhile a senko, always same color, they go back into their original package.
  5. I prefer short shank, I use eagle claw both 3x and 4x.
  6. If you're like most people you want a strike on every cast, regardless of the lure tied on, I'd say you would be searching with any lure. Search generally refers to covering a lot of water, spoon would be my first choice, my preference, a gold hammered redfish key spoon 1/4 oz.
  7. On averge my Abu Garcia Soron - Cardinal 807i - AlanHawk.comy favorite spininng reel, I say favorite not best. I have a 20 2 40's and a 60
  8. For years the argument has been made the more expensive the rod the more delicate it is. Just about every item I buy, when I buy on the upside I expect durability and longevity, a rod should be too IMO. As I've said under normal fishing conditions, I've never had a rod broke, user error yes and in those cases the warranty should not cover replacement. If I did need warranty, a phone call to the manufacturer, a new rod would be shipped to a retailer of my choice that carries their line for an instore pickup and exchange. That's pretty good in my book, not complicated without laying out additional money. Most of my rods are in the $100 area, they cast excellent and do a fine job handling the fish.
  9. Zip ties have been used for years to secure flukes to jig heads fo snook.
  10. My wife bought me this t-shirt
  11. Sadly my cuda fishing may be ending soon. From no bag and size limit, it's changing to 2 a day with a slot 20"-35", over have be released un harmed, meaning gaffs are out and they bite thru nets. Our bigger ones 40 and over are gaffed, caught on tubes. Those are the hard strikers, 35 and under much easier, still fun.
  12. Any double duty reel, buy the salt water version. Prices and specs are about the same, difference anti corrosion finish and bearings. An important feature for me is the knob, I like paddes andd t ees, don't care for small or round.
  13. Most likely the case. Rods usually don't break, people break them. Don't ever remember a broken rod landing any fish of any size.
  14. I'm active on FB, I follow some of my very close friends and relatives, but FB is my main connector to news, current events and politics which is big for me. I discuss my fishing only on fish forums, they are in essence FB for fishermen.
  15. There is quite a bit of information available between manufacturers print outs, and internet customer reviews, that in itself is overload and leads to confusion. Much of what is read is techno babble, which doesn't really mean all that much. I honestly feel 2 rods of the same power and speed an inch or 2 either way is fairly insignificant. The overall weight of a rod isn't that significant either, it's how the entire combo (rod and reel feel). If an exact length and weight is desired then go custom, if you were confused before............lol, good luck. By caliing a manufacturer, you are going to get guided towards their products only, would Shimano tell you to call Fenwick? I've been guilty myself of getting confused and doing too much homework as to what's best for my uses. Having a med. rod for example that fishes light or heavy is not an indication of being a good rod or not, as long as you know the feel of that rod, that's what matters.
  16. Went to the ocean this morning, gotta admit too much for me. I nearly fell twice, leg gave out, lucky to catch myself, glad no rod with me.
  17. My "home" places to fish are walking distance, 2-3 acres. An issue I read a lot about are people saying they want to be the best fishermen they can be. Who's to say you aren't already. People tend to use the wrong yardstick as a measure of ability, numbers probably is a better measure than size. Just because JOE BLOW in another part of the country catches bigger fish does not make him a better fisherman, just fishes locations that hold bigger fish. How does one compete with a resident of big bass state or another country, you can't. Your measurement of success can only be based on where you fish and what's available to you.
  18. I gravitate to shady areas in bright sun, early morning towards the bank getting the sun.
  19. Hard to be specif, your personal location has a lot to do with it. My basic training is great lakes as well as inland lakes back in MIch. I'm in South Florida now fishing pretty much small water. No thought involved for me in numbers, size and ease, Florida is a pretty easy venue to catch bass, 20" is barely worth an honorable mention. You want big fish the 2 best options are the ocean and/or areas known for big bass and hire guide.
  20. Based on my personal experience I have no evidence which setup is best. My preference is leader, never tie my braid direct to lure.
  21. The only sinkers I use are egg weights for offshore drifting and torpedo in line trolling sinkers used to make my cuda tubes. small torpedos like 1/2 oz can be used effectivly for xtra casitng distance from shore with light lure, crappies jig, small spoons, rattling popper rigs.
  22. I'll take the strike from a big pike muskie or barracuda over about anything.
  23. I do for Labron and the 2300 kids.
  24. I agree, tourneys don't interest me at all. I come and go as I please, I"m there to relax and enjoy myself. Being s/e 40 years was enough pressure for me. The common ground, don't come until I do catch fish, never came home without making a buck for the day.
  25. I put my faith in my doctors and modern science, they have been thru it before. I'll get thru this. Last apoit. my doc wanted to know if I needed handicap parking permit, I said what for I walked in here didn't I.
