  1. This identical fanny pack is with me 100% of the time inshore fishing. http://www.amazon.com/Everest-044XLD-Extra-Large-Fanny/dp/B001M5WQN6 On the belt is a sheath with my pliers, inside I keep 6 plastic lure boxes, for metal jigs, spoons, bucktails, top water jerkbaits, and plastic jerk shads with jig heads. I keep swivels and leader spools in the smaller pocket. I'm ready for about anything. In the trunk of my car there is a plastic 2'x3' apx with smaller boxes in it with all of my back up. there is also a box for my freshwater stuff kept in Rapala boxes that I just put in pocket when walking the bank. I feel I'm very organized.
  2. I do think certain techniques may be easier with a b/c, but not impossible with spinning gear. Power comes from the rod, spinning rods are available to handle about any size fish and any size lures. The terms power and finesse fishing do not exist in my vocabulary, I use nothing but spinning. A b/c is lighter, with a spinning reel on the bottom I don't find weight or exact balance to be all that critical. Line capacity and max drag should't be much of an issue for bass fishing, either spinning or b/c works just fine. If you feel you need or want a b/c, try it out.
  3. If I had a child in college the last thing I'd want is for him/her to focus on fishing, college IMO is for an education. What ever degree or career is chosen, you get out of it what you put into it. Not everyone is college material or has aspirations of attending, the same rules apply to life, it's up to the individual.
  4. My one and only Ford truck was a 1973 F-750 with a 16' steel box and lift gate. Owned 69' Mustang mach 1 and 2003 Mustang GT, as well as 84' Lincoln mark, 92' mark, 94' mark and 97 mark.
  5. Happy Passover to those that celebrate. Unusual but not rare that both Passover and Easter are celebrated at the same time.
  6. Calling poker or any card game a sport is stretch IMO. What would professional chess be, it's totally person against person with no advantage of getting the "cards".
  7. I do both swivel and line to leader knot. Whichever the case I keep my leaders fairly short, the longer the leader the more the stretch. Adding a fresh leader is quick enough task. The knot does not get damaged going thru the guides, a plus for the knot without a swivel is picking up less muck in freshwater fishing. In open water fishing I see many more people using swivels.
  8. Perhaps the officer gave out no citations because he so no wrong doing going on. Some how this thread has morphed into Customs, DEA, Coast Guard, the opening post is about not tying up a boat ramp. That in itself doesn't merit a pat on the back, he just did the right thing by moving smile or no smile on his face.
  9. I agree, I'm never disappointed when I catch one.
  10. I have quite a few Abu spinning reels, not a bad one in the bunch. 1 soron 20, 2 40's (my most used beach reels) and 1 soron 60 used off shore. Have a 172 that I upgraded to a soron, It's used for a sabiki and it's still very smooth. Finally a 177 that caught back to back 150# sharks, lots of kingfish, bonita and barracuda, still very good but it's been upgraded as well, it's a guest reel now.
  11. I agree, but personally I don't feel bass are line shy. I use braid and leader 99% of the time, the 1% is for fishing that most bass fisherman will never do. The leader serves as stealth if one thinks it's necessary, it's a shock absorber and makes breaks offs easier. The key factors in fishing success is both finding the fish and timing.
  12. Braid and use that FC for a leader. Get a decent rod. Swivels only help if your lure turns over or using an inline spinner. Twist happens from the line being wrapped around the spool on retrieve, it's the nature of the beast. Oil the line roller bearing for smoother operation.
  13. I don't do much in the way of steady retrieves, I buy very few of those types of lures. With few exceptions fish of most species IMO go after the easiest target, I like to pause my lures and let the fish have a good look at it. One of my favorites is a Mirrorlure catch 2000 or jr, I use the same ones inshore fishing as well as bass and peacocks.
  14. Whether it's foam or or cork I prefer the butt to be full as I may have the rod under my armpit.
  15. Tom is right. If I'm not mistaken this is the 3 rd nearly identical thread from the same poster. In a previous thread a few days ago I mentioned I don't care for "double duty rods". There are mh rods and then there are mh rods, I fish bass sometimes with mh (not often it's usually a med), I fish tarpon, snook, jacks and barracuda with mh rods too. Whether bass or saltwater my rods are inshore rods, I would not use my bass inshore to target a tarpon. Even though they both may be mh 10/20 with similar lure parameters, they aren't the same rod. Not unusual to see a bass fisherman down here in Florida trying their hand at saltwater. How many times have I heard "I'm tournament fisherman and I catch 10# bass on this outfit". A, they probably never caught a 10# bass and B a 10# snook is more formidable than bass and snook don't compare to other species.
  16. I fish pre dawn everyday (at the ocean), fish don't swim out of the water but gators and mocs do. I never bass fish at night in Florida from shore, not worth the risk for me.
  17. Redfish key-spoon, I use them mainly for bass http://www.wahoofpi.com/spoons/redfish-key-spoons/redfish-key-spoon-wah-rkt14-ft
  18. They are a blast to catch, especially with UL.
  19. I agree. A game warden's job is to enforce the laws and serve us, not tie up a boat ramp. Any stand up person would or should move their boat out of courtesy.
  20. Check out a Calico Jack, Dicks should have them.
  21. HUH ? I've replaced a few, last one was on my Penn conquer which is not an old reel. FYI http://store.scottsbt.com/32-5000CQ-Spring-Bail-Spring-P25686.aspx Quantum cabo abd boca, have a magnetic trip.
  22. Topwater is great, I still catch the majority of them on small jigs. Got this one today.
  23. ^^^^^^^^ Just about identical to catching snook
