  1. I really don't think you need to worry too much! Back is mid 70's I used a mouth turkey call with a lead base that almost got me into trouble but doctor was smart enough to ask questions, shortly after the ones made with lead seemed to disappear from the market, but if you find one don't use it! I did find a better mouth call not made from lead but that got me into more trouble, called an 80 year old hunter who couldn't see within 30 yards and he blew me out from behind the big pine tree where I was sitting, yes I had orange on just not enough or he couldn't tell the difference, anyway I have been carring 2 double ought buck from a 12 guage mag in my arm ever since! After 30 years the only trouble I have had is trying to explain anytime I need to have an xray done, even had the cops called in once! Ya should have seen the look on his face when he came to gut me..... mostly cause he found himself looking at the barrel of my brothers gun who was hunting close to me at the time. Brother told him if had just waited a couple of minutes longer there were about 8 real turkeys headed right towards me that he couldn't get a shot at!
  2. Here is more information about this reel! Quote" Named after the state where it was first manufactured and popularized, the Indiana reel was conceived with a dual purpose. It would function as both a line dryer (for the silk and linen lines used at the time) and as a casting reel. It served both functions well, and was also employed as a trolling reel. The first Indiana reel patent was granted to C.D. Rider on December 1, 1908" End Quote" Anyone remember braided casting line back in mid 40's...not the same as braided is today.. it seems to me that was not always round if you really looked at it, we also used it for throw lines for catfish and sucker fishing too. One reason I fished more for trout, I was not allowed to touch pap's level wind cast reel but did end up with a nice bamboo fly rod and reel to fish with. I am thinking it was like early 50's when I finally got a cheap spinning outfit to fish with.
  3. visited with my brother this evening to con him out of his deceased father-in-law's fly tying equipment - success - must love his brother to part with the complete setup! I took quite a ribbing about the fly equipment since I just got 2 new casting reels and rods over the Christmas season and have been practicing in the snow since, he didn't think I was good enough to cast the flies yet regardless! ;D ;D Well I couldn't resist the offer to add to my casting reels when he showed me this ......
  4. eh Muddy, I have done a little bit of trout fishing and have had beavers swim past me while fly fishing the small creeks (muncy and loyalsock) what a sight to behold when they swim real close to you, scared me the first time it happened especially when the wap their tail! A little further up the creek above the dam they made was beautiful for fly fishing for trout, the water was backed up to create a new flow off to the side where I fished up through and almost missed the damm, never gave it a thought about being legal when I made my limit of nice trout, Also have had the opportunity to fish some smaller creeks where the beaver dams are many but water is slow moving and shallow, didn't do so good there catching only brook trout less than legal but again didn't question the legality of being there other than being on someone's property! I don't trout fish much anymore but I will be interested to find out if I have been fishing illlegally in the past.... really ... might give me a new outlook on where to go this year for bass!
  5. Thanks everyone for the welcomes, real glad I found this site! Hey MobyDick, The waters I fish, Rose Valley, Hunters, Bearawalla ? pond, Sayers and of course Susquehana from Montgomery to Jersey Shore. Don't get out as much as I like to but when I go I don't go home very easy!
  6. Greetings to all! Muncy, Pa. on the West Branch of the Susquehana checking in! In a way I am kinda new to bass fishing compared to all the proffesional information I have read on these forums the past couple weeks! I have 4 grandkids that keep me busy mosst of the summer, waterskiing, camping and boating and yes sometimes fishing with the 2 old boats we have. No I don't fish in the winter anymore, can't take the cold but I often go and watch others for awhile when the ice is in just to see fish! I am more of a trout man with flies in the past, planning on putting more towards bass fishing this year as I get closer to retirement! Great forums here and thanks for all the info you have been willing to share and hope to meet some of you on the water! JohnB
