  1. Finally, after all these years of being the brunt of everybodys jokes, we have the DIVISION CHAMPIONS. ;D Go Cardinals! Oh, I'm also a lifetime Steelers fan formerly from PA so I have to add Go Steelers! Happy fishing. ~B.A.S.S.~N.A.F.C.~BoatU.S.~N.R.A.~A.M.A.~
  2. One day while fishing off the Deerfield Beach fishing pier in Florida, I caught a seagull while casting a Mirro-lure. The gull caught it in mid air while on the cast. I had to fight it down out of the air. Nasty little son of a gun! Had to cut the line to keep from being bitten. Happy fishing. ~B.A.S.S.~N.A.F.C.~BoatU.S.~N.R.A.~A.M.A.~
  3. I'm ordering a pair. I've worn Norton 360's over my prescription glasses all day many times. Go to their website and research their info. For me I think the copper lenses would work best. I'm getting them with the tortois shell frames. They sure look nice. Happy fishing. ~B.A.S.S.~N.A.F.C.~BoatU.S.~N.R.A.~A.M.A.~
  4. I like to fish for largemouth #1, but also spend a lot of time fishing for stripers, channel cats and flathead cats. Caught a 25# flathead last year on a medium action baitcasting rig. WOW. Took about 20 minutes to boat it. Happy fishing. ~B.A.S.S.~N.A.F.C.~BoatU.S.~N.R.A.~A.M.A.~
  5. I imagine white and yellow will work. The object is to make it look like a shiner minnow. Have fun catching gar. Don't have them here. Catch some for me. Happy fishing. ;D ~B.A.S.S.~N.A.F.C.~BoatU.S.~N.R.A.~A.M.A.~
  6. Hi dee tee, well, my boat is not a pontoon, but a lot of the options I have added to my boat apply to yours as well. Check out my post under "for those who can appreciate a good ole project" dated Nov. 24, 9:55 PM. When you install 2 batteries, make sure you get a battery switch .I know of two types. 1. Allows you to select either barrery 1, both batteries, or turns off both batteries. I have this model on my boat. When fishing, using my fish finder, trolling motor, radios, submersible lights, etc., I keep the switch on "battery 1". Battery 2 stays fully charged to be used for starting. I switch to "both" for starting outboard engine, then leave switch on "both" while running to charge both batteries. When I stop again I switch back to "battery 1" for fishing. You'll always have a charged battery for starting engine. The other switch option is probably an even better choice. This switch works like this; 2. Allows you to select either battery 1, battery 2, both batteries, or turns off both batteries. 8-) You can purchase either of these switches at West Marine or many marine catalogs. Happy fishing. 7. Your boat is VERY similar to mine. See my reply to "Anyone who can appreciate a good ole project" posted earlier today. Happy fishing ~B.A.S.S.~N.A.F.C.~BoatU.S.~N.R.A.~A.M.A.~
  8. The fishing is year round. Can be hit or miss in winter. Also, at Lake Pleasant we have stripers as well as largemouth and smallmouth bass, crappie, channel cats and flathead cats. I caught a 25# flathead there 14 months ago. Other lakes in the area are Canyon, Saguaro, Apache, Bartlett, & Roosevelt. Farther away are Alamo and San Carlos Lakes. Lots of water and fishing all year here in Phoenix. Happy Fishing. ~B.A.S.S.~N.A.F.C.~BoatU.S.~N.R.A.~A.M.A.~
  9. I have another method for gar fishing. Alot less work too. Cut a piece of white braided rope about 4" long and whip tie ie to a 1/0 hook shank next to the eye. Laquer the wrap tie afterwards. Unravel and fray the rope. Cast on spinning gear. Reel it on or near surface of water. The frayed rope tangles in the gar's teeth and they can't throw the lure. You can cut off the hook to make it weedless, but bass and other fish may strike lure also and then you'll want that hook. Happy fishing. 8-) ~B.A.S.S.~N.A.F.C.~BoatU.S.~N.R.A.~A.M.A.~
  10. When I was a teenager living in Florida I used to catch bowfin and gar for the fun of it. Gar can be extremely hard to hook because of their hard bony mouths. Here's a great lure you can make to catch them. Cut a piece of white braided rope about 4" long and wrap tie it to a 1/0 size hook. Fray and unravel the rope. The frayed rope gets tangled in the gar's teeth and they can't throw the lure. The hook can be cut off of the shank if you wish, but you never know when a bass, crappie or other fish might strike, and then you'll want that hook. Happy fishing. ~B.A.S.S.~N.A.F.C.~BoatU.S.~N.R.A.~A.M.A~
  11. I used to love catching bowfin and gar when I was a teenager living in Florida. Don't have them here in Arizona. Happy fishing. ~B.A.S.S.~N.A.F.C.~BoatU.S.~N.R.A.~A.M.A.~

  13. Hi - I've been where you are. About 21 months ago I bought a boat that looked really nice and was told was in excelent condition. Before ever getting it in the water I spent $2000 to have the motor completely overhauled. The motor is a 1967 Evinrude Starflite 80. Runs like a champ now . After a few fishing trips on the lakes around here I noticed an ever worsening crunching sound under foot in 2 areas of the deck. The boat is a 1977 Glastron Sportster, 16'. I pulled up the carpet in those areas expecting to replace a little plywood and be done with it. WRONG. The plywood was so rotten I could just rip out chunks with my hands. My mechanic told me to replace the deck and stringers. Never tackled a job anything like this before, but at this point I was commited. I cut out the fiberglass all around the inside perimeter with pnuematic cutting tool and removed all plywood. I left the old stringers in place (1 down the keel, 1 on either side 1/2 way between keel and side of hull) as they weren't totally rotted out. The original stringers were pine, and plywood deck was 1/2" plywood. I bought red oak to make new stringers and 3/4" marine grade plywood for new deck. After cutting and shaping stringers to fit in place I treated all the new wood to waterproof it before installation. Mixed fiberglass resin, then diluted it 50% with acetone to allow it to penetrate into the new wood, and treated the old stringers as well .I applied 4 coats to completely seal and coat wood. Pulled out all the old open cell foam from the hull (it was all waterlogged and weighed a ton ), bought twice as much new foam, closed cell to prevent waterlogging. Installed the foam, and bolted new stringers to old ones, sandwiching the old ones with new on either side, Useing stainless steel bolts. Screwed down new decking with brass screws. Applied new fiberglass cloth and resin to seal down new deck and form it to the hull. Bought new high quality outdoor carpeting and glued it to the new deck, using a roller to get it smooth and even. Then installed new high end pedistal seats from Cabela's to replace the original back to back lounge seats. Since then I have also added a new bimini top, Minkota Edge 50# thrust trolling motor, marine band radio, Sirius satellite radio, Eagle 620c depth/fish finder, compass, submersible fishing lights, dual batteries on a 1/both/off switch, fishing rod storage tubes for 8 rods, motorcycle headlights for night time operation, interior cabin lights on both sides of boat, and a solar battery charger to keep batteries full charged at all times. I did all the work myself (except the motor overhaul ) over a period of about 5 monthe last winter. I love the end result . I get constant compliments on the boat , it looks brand new , and runs like it too. Total expenses are about $6500 . That might seem like a lot, but try to buy something in the condition that this boat is in now for that amount. It was a lot of work, but for me it was well worth it. Don't hesitate to ask me for any advise or help you would need should you decide to rebuild your "good bones" boat. Happy fishing. Allen ~B.A.S.S.~N.A.F.C.~BoatU.S.~N.R.A.~A.M.A.~
  14. Hi all. I'm new to this forum and just wanted to say howdy. This looks like a great forum with lots of info. Hope to be conversing with you all soon. Happy fishing. ~B.A.S.S.~N.A.F.C.~BoatU.S.~N.R.A.~A.M.A.~
  15. Yes indeed that is most certainly sad. :'( I'm glad I live in Phoenix where my boat is bathed in sunshine and unfrozen water. 8-)
