  1. I tow my 16' fiberglass boat with 80hp motor and all accessories with a 1987 Chevy Blazer S-10 with a 2.8 liter V-6 and overdrive auto trans. It's kind of short on power and braking so I leave plenty of room to stop and look well ahead for safety. This rig works fine for me, towing speed @ 55-60 mph. I added an aftermarket trans cooler rated at 5000 pounds. It keeps the fluid cool even in our 113 degree Arizona summers. Do not tow in overdrive!!!!
  2. Hi, ksdog! Guitar playing is my other great passion in life. I've been playing for as long as I've been fishing (50+ yrs.) I'm totally self-taught and maybe I can help you avoid some mistakes that I made. The best thing that you can do is find a good teacher. Someone who understands what kind of music you want to play. Learn to read tab. There's a ton of it available on the 'net. Your fingers will get sore. When they do, stop and take a break. This is supposed to be fun, not self-torture. Eventually, you'll develop cajjuses on the fingers of your fretting hand and the pain will diminish. Have fun!! Tom I have played electric and upright bass professionally and semi-professionally for over 30 years. I started out on guitar. Had a few years of regular lessons as a young teenager, then in my mid 20's took up bass after @ a 10 year absence due to a major injury to my left arm. One of my regrets through the years has been not getting formal training on bass, especially upright. I've played with some great players on recording sessions and performed before thousands at stadium and arena gigs as well as the local nightclub and bar gigs, and thoroughly enjoyed my musical career, but I'd be a far more proficient musician had I gotten formal training on my chosen instrument. In short, follow the advice by Tom and get a good instructor, apply yourself, learn well, and you will not go wrong. Have fun, and happy fishing.
  3. I have a pair of 4" motorcycle headlights mounted on my bow.
  4. Wal-Mart sells it in their boat area.
  5. I've been using these baits for a couple years now . Love 'em.
  6. I was having similar problems with my 1967 Evinrude 80hp. I tried just spraying carb cleaner into the jet orfices but no success Changed a lot of parts too. The carb needed removed and rebuilt. Also, the primer bulb didn't seem to be holding anough pressure, so I replaced that too. It seems to be running right now, but I haven't put it in the water yet to test it under a load, which is where the bogging down showed up.
  7. I picked Slaton in my fantasy draft last year near the end of the draft. Everyone said "WHO?". They found out soon enough. He was one of my best picks. Go Cardinals!!! Go Steelers!!!
  8. Yeah, the Gateway Clipper fleet was what I was thinking of when I mentioned a river cruise, I just couldn't dredge it up from my muddled memory. Phips Conservatory is another great attraction, right near Carnegie Museum.
  9. I grew up there. Make sure to add the h at the end of Pittsburgh. Only Pittsburgh and Plattsburgh N.Y. have the h at the end as far as I know. The Carnegie Museum is awsome!! My best friend and I used to go there frequently as teenagers. You could spend the whole weekend there alone. The Hill District is a good place to avoid, and is fairly near Carnegie Museum. Also, make sure to take the Inclines up Mt.Washington. Awsome view of the city and rivers . Good restaurants at the top and bottom.A very unique experience. Perhaps a river cruise might interest you too 8-). They are reasonably priced and another great way to see the city. I haven't been back there for @ 25 years. :'( Enjoy.
  10. That's only 9:15 here and I usually don't even start my nightly brousing untill 7:300 ro 8:00. From now on I'll make this my first stop instead of my last or next to last. Happy fishing.
  11. I bought a bimini top from Cabela's and the shade it provides makes all the difference in the world here where the temperature can easily be 115 any summer day. I would never be without it. It was extremely easy to install. Also, the Overton's catalog has a wide variety of bimini tops to choose from, in any price range and many sizes. www.overtons.com. Their catalog gives you step by step instructions on how to measure, and determine which top to order to best fit your boat. Happy hunting.
  12. Check out the "Chester and Lester" album from 1976, recorded with Chet Atkins. This was recorded at Chet's urging. Les Paul hadn't picked up a guitar for 12 years before they went into the studio. This all went down in one take.WOW!!!!!
  13. Ethanol is definately a problem for all power boaters. It doesn't matter what type of motor you run, ethanol still attracts water in the fuel system and tank. Use a good quality fuel stabilizer. I have used both Sta-Bil marine and Star-Tron with good results. Two cycle motors require far less maintanence the four cycles, are lighter, and in my opinion deliver more power per horsepower than four cycles. Just my thoughts. Happy motoring.
  14. My older Evinrude 80 was running poorly, wouldn't plane , lugged under wot, idled rough, would surge and or die. Needed a carb rebuild.
  15. Here, my favorite season is From October to May. It is absolutely brutal trying to fish here in the summer, although I do it. From June to September it is normally 108 to 118 degrees nearly every day.
  16. .380 is simply too underpowered. Personally, I carry a S&W model 59 9mm highcap mag or my S&W 629 4" .44mag. My wife has no problem with the model 59, however, I want to get her something chambered for .357 Sig. Comparable recoil, more knockdown/killing power. Gun control------the ability to hit your target!!
  17. Use raw (uncooked) shrimp. Let it age it the sun a few hours. This will stay on the hook, channel cats love it. Use a circle hook, 1/0 to 3/0 size. The fish will hook themselves as they swim away, no need to set hook, and the hook will be in the corner of the mouth where it will be easy to remove. Happy fishing.
  18. Here's how to treat your wood. After all your pieces have been cut to size and properly shaped, mix fiberglass resin and dilute it to a watery consistancy with acetone. Paint this on every surfaceof your wood. Apply 3 or 4 coats, then apply 1 full strength mix coat. The diluted mix will soak into the wood, then the acetone evaporates, leaving the wood permeated with fiberglass resin. Lightly sand the surface that you wish to carpet before applying the carpet adhesive. Use a roller when installing the carpet to get it smooth and bubble free. I used a large rolling pin for baking when I did my boat restoration project.
  19. When I was a teenager in the mid '60's I fished the water hazzards at Crystal Lake Country Club, in Pompano Beach Florida. My grandparents home was just off the third green, and a water hazzard was @ 75 yards from their house. Caught the second largest bass of my life out of that pond. Happy fishing.
  20. My old '56 Evinrude 9.9hp was 1 pint to 4 gallons. My '67 Evinrude 80hp is 1 pint to 6 gallons. Better check with a mechanic in on this. Or , I'm sure someone will come up with the answer here soon!!
  21. A guy here drowned while trying to pee of the side of the boat. He slipped and hit his head on the boat, fell in the water and drowned. I keep a 1 quart plastic mug with a large handle in the boat. It's the official "pee mug" . Use it, dump it, rinse it out, store it away. Much safer than trying to keep your balance on the edge of the boat.
  22. Great bait too. As grubs they feed on tree roots. When they mature they crawl up the tree, then shed their skins. After drying out, they fly off. Many fall off the tree when climbing up, and if the tree or limbs hang over the water, they fall in. Fish will gorge on the fallen cicadas. During a hatch out use them for bait and cast under trees. We have tons of them here.
  23. I'll say!!!!!!!!
  24. Good post. Another thing I like to do is to try using lures that have either been sitting in the box for ages :-? or lures that just aren't right , like salt water lures. For instance, I have a saltwater surface plug that is made to resemble a needlefish. Work it like a Zera Spook. This plug is @ 8" long and @ 1/2" in diameter with a green scale finish. It can be a bass slayer at times 8-). Happy fishing.
  25. I used to tie my own gar rope lures using a 1/0 hook for those occasions when a bass or crappie hit it.
