  1. Nice gar! The best way to catch gar with rod & reel is with a rope lure. Take a 1/0 or larger hook and whip tie a 4" piece of white nylon rope to the shank. Varnish the tie. After varnish sets, unravel the rope. Cast the lure when you spot gar. When they strike, the unraveled nylon rope tangles in their teeth and they can't throw the lure. You could even cut off the hook from the shank for gar fishing, but you may get a bass strike on the lure, then you'll be glad to have the hook
  2. I have added feathered trebles to all my surface and floating lures. BIG difference in percentage of strikes.
  3. I rarely fish without my boat. When I do I take 1 tackle box, 3 rods (1 bait cast, 1 fly cast, 1 spinning), a soft six pack cooler of sodas on a strap, a S&W model 629 in a shoulder holster.
  4. I have a cell phone. You can make a phone call with it. My wife has the number, almost no one else. I don't want to be disturbed by the d**n thing ringing all the time. It is for emergency use primarily, like my sidearm. Fortunately, they are useless on nearly all of our lakes here in Arizona, no signal.I have VHF on my boat for emergency communication, or to communicate with my buds on their boats.
  5. He was bass fishing. Bet he thought he had a 10 pound bass on the line!
  6. Lots of stripers in Pleasant. I usually catch a few while largemouth fishing.
  7. Fish Castle Creek Cove, the Agua Fria River, or main lake points. Also around Scorpion Bay Marina for stripers. The main lake will be filled with skiers and speed boaters on weekends. No fun trying to fish it then. I always fish the northern coves, Castle Creek, Ague Fria River, Humbug Cove, and Cole's Cove in that order of preference.
  8. I have found that my 1967 Evinrude Starflite 80 runs best on Champions.
  9. I take 8 rods on my boat, 3 bait cast, 2 fly cast, and 3 spinning and always do some fly casting on every trip. Some great bass flies can be found on the BPS web site. Look under "fly fishing" then click on "flies". A couple salt water flies that I use with great success are the Enrico Puglisi Peanut Butter in chartreuse and the Enrico Puglisi Pinfish. I also recommend the Dave Whitlock Diving Frog.
  10. "Resistance is futile, you must submit to the Bait Monkey"!
  11. HOLY MACKEREL!!!!!That must have fought like a 10 pound bass!
  12. I don't use my spinning rigs very much anymore. I enjoy the challenges of bait cast and fly cast equipment and use them about 4 to 1 over spinning gear.
  13. I don't use my spinning rigs very much anymore. I enjoy the challenges of bait cast and fly cast equipment and use them about 4 to 1 over spinning gear.
  14. That's more lenient than here in Arizona where you may only use 2 rods at a time, and there is an additional fee for the "two pole stamp" on your license. I put out a line for either channel or flathead catfish while I cast for bass, stripers, or bluegills.
  15. I use a set of extra long needle nose pliers I got at Harbor Freight Tools for @ $5.
  16. It's only going to get worse. The ethanol lobby cares nothing about the welfare of the citizens of this country, only about making their clients (and themselves) obscenely rich at our expense! Extremely inefficient fuel, poor mileage per gallon, and damaging to most motors. What a deal!!!
  17. I use my L&S Mirro Lures, silver scale finish, for bass on every outing. Very good shad immitators.
  18. I use Marine Sta-Bil at the recommended ratio on every tank full in my 1967 Evinrude 80hp and it always starts instantly and runs great.
  19. I use Cocoons over my glasses and love them. I use copper lenses.
  20. I prefer gray for general purposes and copper for glare reduction.
  21. I throw topwaters anytime, but I'm in Arizona. Don't just limit your topwater fishing to early morning and late evening, I've caught fish on the surface anytime of day or night.
  22. Place a post on the www.azbasszone.com site concerning renting a bass boat or back seating with someone. You'll get plenty of replies! this is an all Arizona bass fishing site.
  23. Never heard of using H2O2 for anything concerning fishing except as a water oxygenator for livewells, and it does a superb job there.
  24. All my reels, bait cast, spinning, and fly cast are set up for right hand retrieve for consistency.
  25. Provided I don't get them dirty I'll go 4 days. I have a very good friend who will never use his bath towel more than once before it goes in the laundry. Aren't you clean when you use your bath towel? I don't get that one.
