Among my rod and reel collection I have 2 Shakespere Ugly Sticks, one baitcast and one spinning, and like them. I think their reels are cheap junk though. I have 1 Shakespere spinning reel / rod combo that is for the grandkids . It rarely leaves the house.
I know you're right about fishing the afternoon, but when it's 110-118 degrees here in Arizona, it's all I can do just to sit in the boat, let alone trying to fish. I don't switch my fishing time to the night because of the fish bite, I do it for comfort.
I like using a Mirrolure saltwater lure, both floating and sinking. I used to fish snook with these in Florida and on a hunch started using them for bass a couple years ago. It's something the fish haven't seen on our heavily pressured lakes here.
This is my first choice. Also Rattletrap, spinnerbait, Hula Popper, and crankbait.
Summers here are 110 to 118 degrees during the day, so I launch my boat @ 6pm and fish through the night until @ 11am, then load up and go home.
That time of day here is about 105 degrees this time of year. I switch my fishing times in summer . I launch the boat @ 6 pm and fish overnight until @ 11 am then load the boat and go home.
Channels - I use frozen whole raw shrimp or frozen squid.
Flatheads - Live bluegill.
Rigs - For channels I use a medium action spinning rod, spinning reel with 12# test Trilene XT line. For flatheads my rig is a Rhino Kevlar medium heavy baitcast rod with Penn 209 levelwind reel with @ 200 yards of 50# test Trilene Big Game line.
I just started fly fishing again after many years. I fish for bass, stripers, crappie, sunfish from my boat. Check out BPS online catalog for rods. I got a White River Dogwood Canyon DC-906 from that catalog that is priced at $56, is 2 piece, 9' long, 6 weight. Very nice rod for that price. . I'm using a Daiwa Regal Strike SF 706 reel with Scientific Anglers Lefty Kreh Signature Series fly line; WF-6-F floating with Trilene XL mono backing, 10 # test.
Whole rig @ $145.
This is a much better rig than the "kit" rig you mentioned.
I have a small plastic tool box full of tools;pliers, screwdrivers, sparkplug wrench and gapper, openend wrenches, spark plugs, bailing wire, electrical wire, electrical tape, duct tape, small electrical test light, small file, box cutter, etc.
I keep another one in my truck and my car.
All of the research studies I've read say that roughly the same percentage of the population is inclined to use their particular drug of choice, legal or not. There may be a small increase in the number of users, but not a large one.
As for availability of said drugs. I see addictive drugs such as opiates, cocaine, meth, etc. being controlled and made available to users through dispensaries as is done in Netherlands, not freely available in corner stores. Users will be users. Provide them with clean needles and pure drugs as opposed to what is sold on the streets now, drugs cut with things like battery acid, and benzene and stryknine, poisons that your body stores in the liver untill they reach a lethal level.
I realize there's no good end to the situation. But there is a far better one than the one that exists now.
Ending this problem is very simple. End prohibition. The gang violence ended after alcohol prohibition was repealed. Legalize, control, and tax. End of problem.
I too would stick with the spincast for now. My 10 year old granddaughter can cast her Zebco a country mile. Maybe next year I'll get her a spinning rig.
Not sleep as mammals know it, but fish do go inactive. many species rest on the bottom during this "sleep", others simply hover, and most pelagic fish never stop swimming. Bass and other members of the sunfish family do enter the inactive "sleep" I mentioned earlier.
At first I thought you were asking about submersiblre lights. The submersible I use is a green flourescent tube type and it really attracts the plankton which attracts the shad. Guess what comes then?
I stay away from the lakes and highways on ALL holiday weekends and go to the lakes a couple weeks later. Just too many drunks and butt holes for my liking on holidays. I value my solitude and safety.
