  1. I will bite.. Trokar hooks for flipping Owner mosquito for wacky rigging
  2. EWG Trokar not much of a hookset is needed. I fish wih guys who try to rip the fishes head off everytime they set the hook. I think this does more harm then good. The harder you set the hook the bigger hole you rip in the fishes mouth and increase your odds of losing the fish. With a good hook and flouro it does not take much to penetrate the fishes mouth..
  3. Not sure on the rods but the orra sx reels are a nice little reel for the money. There built around the revo design. The main difference is in the drag I beleive. The orras have a single drag washer where as the revos have the multi washer system.
  4. I use 3/4 tungsten bbl weights with braid as my main line and 15 lb mono as a leader. Anytime I break off its below the swivel so I almost never lose a weight.
  5. I was in the boat with Boyd Duckett on the final day of this past classic when he boated the heaviest sack of the classic at 28 lbs and I can tell you the dude talked the entire time. When he was not talking to me he had a camera man drilling him. I guess those guys are so good its just second nature to them. I even asked him if he gets ticked that he is fishing the biggest tournament in the world and he keeps getting interupted by the camera boat every 15 minutes. He said its just part of the deal and handled it very well and said if it were not for the sponsors and fans there would not be where they are so it is the least he can do..
  6. I will give them a try and let you know how it works for me. Ive never had a problem getting a beaver through the thick stuff. I use Zoom super hogs also with success.
  7. Anyone use them for punching? The concept seems like it makes sense. I do most of my punching now with a 3/4 to 1 oz weight over a 5/0 EWG superline hook with usually a beaver. Just wondering what the dis advantages would be with this rig.
  8. Agree with the advancement in no strecth lines and sharper hooks you no longer need a super fast tip to set the hook. You kind of get the best of both worlds. Maybe Skeet knew what he was doing with his whippy worm rods..
  9. Yeah im pretty sure in that same article he said he only uses braid in super heavy cover.. Kind of goes against everything you read but he is labled the frog man.. Kind of goes back to you guys last debate about success breeding confidence and that confidence is not built on just beleiving what your doing is correct.
  10. Once hook set is acheived a slower action or parabolic rod will benefit you in fighting the fish almost always. My personal preference for flipping heavy cover is less bend in the rod to yank the fish out faster as this is a close range situation and there is not much fight invloved other than pulling the fish up through the thick stuff. With Flouro lines and braids helping with hook penetration a lot of the pros are using slower action rods these days for pitching around modereate cover.
  11. Did anyone else read the article he wrote for Bassmaster mag about his Frog set up? I find it hard to beleive he is using a 7' M action rod for fishing spro frogs.. He actually said he was using a M Action rod with a fast tip..I get so frustrated when I read something like this. You would think a Pro would understand that action is in the tip/bend of the rod and the M/MH/H is the power. I read stuff like this so often and I just dont get it. It's so simple yet there are so many people that cant get it right. There are even some rods with the ratings printed this way. Can't they just list it as Power: M/ML/MH/H Action:Fast/Moderate ?? Maybe Bassmaster mis printed idk..
  12. I have been using my E21 Cranking rod as a spinner/Buzzbait rod. This rod has more power than your typical cranking rod and I also have it spooled with braid so far hook sets have been no issue. I like the parabolic action to help with keeping the fish buttoned up once hooked. I think for light texas rigging with a standard diameter hook you would be fine. For Flipping or Jig fishing with a heavy wire hook I would opt for Braid plus a Heavier power rod with a fast action to drive that heavy hook home. JMO
  13. Yeah no matter what you catch there someone will catch them better..
  14. Look up www.colestackle.com they are far better and cheaper than the stick jackets I have.
  15. Also I hit a stump in the bison boat lane during practice and took a chunk out of my skeg. Thankk God thats all that happen. It was a pretty good lick. My fault I should have came off plane sooner it shallows up pretty quick in that lane.
  16. We did not do so well finished 41st with 50 lbs. No kickers, we weighed in limits but biggest fish was 4 lbs. One of our guys had a 6.5 in practice fishing humps around cypress bend. I fished Lowes creek sat and we caught fish but biggest was 3 lbs. Sun I fished pirates cove and caught better quality fish over all but nothing over 4 lbs. Pretty much everything came on deep cranks SK series 4 and xd5's after the buzzbait bite went away. Congrats on winning the boat!!
  17. Yep. We plan to have one boat working shallow and two deep..
  18. Fished Pirates until the wind picked up Sunday and the couple I caught were bigger fish. Was fishing a 7' grass flat between two deep channels and picked up a couple pretty quick then left when the wind got bad.
  19. There was no main lake for us this past weekend. Stayed in Yocum creek and caught quite a few but no size..
  20. I have three Orra Sx's so far so good. I had that same problem with the anti reverse bearings on a couple of Silvermax reels. You think they would have corrected that. I will stick to revos from now on..
  21. I was wondering what had the water so stirred up..With all that grass i figured it should be very clean. Thanks for the tip on the points. I plan on working that skinny dipper through all that grass for practice. Has the top water bite been on in there over that matted grass?
  22. Yeah it was the one in between youcum creek and arnold creek that I did not know the name. Must be the Diamond creek that you speek of. I will be back there this weekend and will try to figure it out. Plan on launching at Big Bass.
  23. The first creek north of youcum I was calling Arnold. This is where I found the matted grass which was the thickest I had found in all 4 days. What is the proper name for this creek?
  24. Thanks! I could have swore I seen a ramp in Arnolds but cant figure out which one it is. Maybe it was a private ramp..
  25. catt, is Kites the closest launch to yocum? and is it big bass that dumps you directly into Arnold?
