  1. Do not seem like they would work very well over slop like a frog. Not saying some cray fish would not hit it but there are better options for sure.
  2. Medium Heavy will get you through most situations but to do it all and cover all conditions having all powers for different situations will be the deal. But if your just looking for something for basic spinnerbaiting,tx rig etc a MH will do fine.
  3. I use Berkley cross locks and have no problems with bites or losing fish.
  4. For hollow bodies like Spro etc braid only. For buzz frogs I use 15-17 lb mono and have not had a problem hooking up. To me fishing buzzfrogs is not much different than fishing buzzbaits as far as hook diameter. I use 17# Suffix Seige most of the time on a Mustad Powerlock light weighted swimbait hook. I also use this set up for swimbaits like skinny dippers etc.
  5. I have both the winch series Veritas and love them both. I use the 7'6" MH for throwing deep divers and traps in open water. You will not be dissapointed in that rod.
  6. Well you could have just tried a Steez rod for yourself... " Posted March 27 2012 - 03:59 PM I just curious if anyone on the forum owns a Steez rod and/or reel. Are they as great as they look??? For some reason I start drooling when I see them "
  7. Rattles and swim jigs just dont go together imo..
  8. Nothing gets the heart pumping like having a good fish on during a tourney esp the 5th one. I try to stay calm during the battle just hoping it does not spit the hook. After it's in the boat I get jacked up! Last tourney I fished I lost 5 fish at the boat that would have went 17-19lbs. We were on some really big fish. Worse day on the water I have ever had as far as execution. I'm still baffled as to what went wrong and can only come up with terrible luck that day.
  9. Like said above flat, clean water = swim jig ( for me even if its cloudy I will throw swim jig as long as the water clarity is good with light to no wind) windy or dirtier water with less visibility = spinnerbait
  10. Here is Ott Defoes view on orange bellies in an interview after the classic. > "That (custom color) is pretty similar to the root beer color that Bandit makes," he said of the crankbait. "This is going to sound crazy, but I think that orange belly is a difference-maker in the spring. I think the shad sit down on the bottom and they get a little bit of an orange coloration to their bellies. Where I'm from we have red clay and it's not uncommon to catch a bass with an orange belly because it's been sitting on the bottom. I think the baitfish do the same thing."
  11. Hard to beat a fat albert. Some times less is more..
  12. I recently broke a Veritas rod on consecutive weekends after running across extremely rough water. They broke right above the reel seat and I'm still unsure as to how this could have happened, I'm thinking possibly my trolling motor foot may have landed on them being its not screwed down to the deck. Anyhow the first rod that I broke I threw it away thinking I must have set my trolling motor down on it rushing between spots or something not even thinking of trying to make a warranty claim. The next weekend while fishing media on verret the same thing happened to another rod shortly after a very rough journey across the lake. At this point Im pretty and felt like throwing every Abu rod I have (all of them) into the lake. I email abu customer service and tell them my story on Monday and they promptly respond with instructions on where to send the broken rod and they agree to waive the $10 handling and shipping fee in an email. I send in the one broke rod with a copy of the email and a description of how they broke and even mentioned it could have been my fault. I also sent the receipt for the rod I threw away thinking it was a long shot to get it replaced also but figured what the hell, this was on a Tuesday and I next dayed it through work so they received it on Wed. I get home Friday afternoon(same week) and I have both rods on my door step! I have had plenty customer service dealings in my life but none as impressive as this. They basically replaced one a rod on my word..very rare IMO. I will not be switching from Abu anytime soon. Figured I would share this as things like this do not happen too often. :thumb up2:
  13. I have more success with chatterbaits around vegetation. It only takes a little pop to get it free and clean unlike a spinnerbait.
  14. We are already catching plenty empty females over here. Water temps between 64 and 66.
  15. Get the 7'6" MH veritas. It fishes like a H. I use mine for frogging and punching with 1+ oz weights.
  16. I have 10 veritas and love them. I also have used a duckett and they are both great rods. The only thing that makes me lean to the veritas side is the $50 savings per rod..
  17. All I can say is the swim jigs produce!! On this particular day thats all they would eat.. http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/96486-northstar/
  18. Revo Premier hands down..
  19. Mats close to points, channels and wood are what I look for. As far as flipping vs pitching I do both depending on how far my target is. I may flip the front of a mat then pitch to the back or closer to the bank. You can cover an area much quicker flipping if your not out of flipping range.
  20. Sunline FX2 is the best of both worlds. Holds its color better than power pro and 832 and is smoother than power pro.
  21. I may give the braid with flouro leader a shot. I assume you use a swivel to attch the flouro to braid which would help with line twist?
  22. sometimes I wonder if I should be using a moderate rod to punch mats..between the braid and ultra sharp hooks its very easy to blow a fishes mouth open. I may try switching to a heavy co poly or Flourocarbon to solve this though and I will not have to deal with the line wrapping around the rod tip while flipping anymore either. That gets pretty frustrating sometimes..
  23. No I use to do that while cat fishing with ugly sticks when I was a kid.lol If I watch anything its my line where it meets the water but mostly feel..
  24. While I tend to agree with that, the common thought is that a faster action gets into the backbone quicker therefore making the rod "stiffer" which leads to more sensitivity. My thought is that it has more to do with the quality of the blank, line etc and the light bite will be detected whether its a fast action, moderate action etc. A subtle bite will not put enough bend in the rod for the action to make a difference. Yet I read many articles stating the faster tip will be more sensitive..
  25. Thanks for those links J Franc, I kinda had the same thought that with light flourocarbon and a ML rod it should still be plenty sensitive even in the moderate action.
