  1. Ive recently picked up a few kistler rods and love them. As far as the warranty its not as bad people think. The warranty claims are handled on a case by case bases. You can have an un registered Kistler rod that you slam a car door on and chances are you will get a brand new updated rod at a very good price even though the damage is of no fault from Kistler. The chances of a rod breaking from a factory defect are slim to none so why should Kistler or any rod company be responsible for our own actions? This is what is wrong with the world today, people expect to be bailed out of problems that are self inflicted and are always looking for handouts. Trey Kistler is smart enough to realize that if he offeres an unlimited lifetime warranty he will be taken advantage of by a million irresponsible people and more than liklley lose money in the process. I actually admire what he stands for and will continue to support Kistler. I personally will not be purchasing any $400 rods anytime soon but if I did and broke it some how that was my own fault I would be pi##ed but in no way would expect Kistler to eat it on my account. Im just not a big fan of handouts to the lazy, unwilling, and irresponsible. Sory for the rant
  2. Live in Luling. Cataoutche is in my back yard so thats where I spend most of my time of course. Recently joined Stump Bumpers bass club.
  3. I use 1\4 ounce tung for C-rigging in 2-3' spawning flats. In this situation I would not see the need to go heavier. I have no problem keeping botom contact with the lighter weight. I say go as light as you can get away with to help with a quicker hookset.
  4. To be honest Lake Fork Taxidermy seems to be the best price. I caught an 8.4 Last Thursday and left without a replica thinking can get one cheaper somewhere but have yet to find a place any chepaer than they wanted at Lake Fork. From what I seen they do exceptional work.
  5. My little girl will be 2 this month. For the past 6 months I have been slowly introducing her to fishing and she has been in the boat since 10 months, she has her own little rod with a casting plug and has got the reeling part down. We are going out Sat in the boat to hopefully catch her first fish and reel it in on her own. If and whatever she catches is going on the wall. I think I will have more fun teaching her to fish than fishing myself.
  6. Anyone using them? I picked up a pack and they appear to be of very good quality visually comparable to Gammys only a buck cheaper per pack. It seems the H20 line of products is a great value. Wonder how long before we start seeing this H2o stuff on tour.
  7. After the last two days in Lake Fork fishing nothing but a wacky rigged zoom finesse worm on a 0/2 straight shank hook and boating 3 fish over 7 lbs and several 2-5 lb fish I am now a believer in finesse fishing. Of course you have to be sure the area your fishing is holding fish or you will have a long day looking for fish.
  8. we stayed in a cabin at Popes landing. The area we fished primarily was called the westbank lawn mower hole. lol I'm not too familiar with Lake Fork so I cant help to much. I can tell you the best burgers around are at the minnow bucket. The fish in the first pic was a tick over 8 and the second was a tick under 8. There were several 10 pound fish caught while I was there and the biggest I heard was 13. Wacky rigged finesse worm with a nail weight worked for us.Oh and we fished Thursday and Friday.
  9. Catch my first Jig fish. Cant ever seem to give them a fair chance.
  10. Anyone else think this is one of the ugliest color schemes ever? Purple with radical looking cork. I have the older version but could not bring myself to fish with the new ones.
  11. Free bag in a kitty bag at tourney. Are they any good? They are one of my least favorite colors, chartreuse pepper so I probably will not use them anyway just wondering if anyone fishes these.
  12. Just finished eating about 5 pounds of crawdads for some reason i could not find any blue in them. They were all bright orange!
  13. Well put. I would add one thing though. The biggest advantage of a long handle is that allows the angler to rest the butt section on the bottom of the forearm. In heavy cover and with very large fish, this takes the lion's share of pressure off the wrist, allowing the angler to lever small buildings to the boat Roger Agree 8-)
  14. I think another point that we are missing is that we are primarily working the fish with our rod and most of the lifting or pulling in is being done by the reel so when your thinking of common leverage we are forgetting that we are pulling in this weight(fish) with a winch sort of like a crane. You work the load with the boom and lift the load with the winch.
  15. This is easier to understand than we are making it. Simply put the closer your hands are to the rod tip the more leverage you have on the fish. The closer the rod tip is to the fish the easier it is to work the fish out of cover hence the need for a balance of workability and leverage on a flipping stick with workability the top priority in my opinion due to the need to pull fish out of cover quickly. The most popular lenghth which is probaly 7' for most applications is most likley chosen by most anglers for a little extra casting distance not an increase in leverage. Tie a rope to the end of a 16' 2x4 and connect it to a 20# weight then grab the other end of the 2x4 and try to lift the weight. Now do this with a 3' baseball bat and it will be much easier. Oh and the only reason a longer handle provides more leverage is because this moves the reel(hand area) closer to the rod tip. If you have two rods that have the reel and rod tip the same distance apart it does not matter if the handle is 12" or 3' the leverage will be the same.
  16. Never fished them much. Are they worth spending some time with this spring? Seems like a good bait to work through the grass weightless and let it fall in the pockets.
  17. Finally! Someone who understands what i'm talking about.
  18. Guess im alone on this one....It just seems like your setting up way too high in the Nitro. I sat in one at the Boat show in the Superdome this past weekend. Maybe im just use to setting low in my old 96 Skeeter. Just felt awkward to me.
  19. What is the reasoning behind the seating area being higher than the deck on some of these new boats ive been checking out? Seems like if you make a sharp turn you would fly out the boat, not to mention your up over the console catching all kind of wind....Nitro is one of them.
  20. Chartreuse /pepper plastics and those laminated swirl colors. Cant bring myself to even try them. I pretty much stick to natural colors even in clear water.
  21. I can do both and have both. When I buy a new reel I prefer left handed as I prefer to set the hook with my dominant arm and am comfortable reeling with my left hand. For worm fishing and flipping/pitching leftys are my choice. For moving baits it does not matter to me either way.
  22. I won two of these rods at a tourney last weekend at TB. I have never fished a Kistler rod before but I can tell you for the price these rods seem to be very well manufactured and very light. The grip is quite unique as it is half cork and half Eva foam. Never seen this before but it looks interesting. I will give the rods a test Sat morning but from the looks and feel of these rods I may be a converted Kistler man.
  23. Cranks are awesome...Swimbaits look sick!
  24. The place was Toledo Bend this weekend. Boated limits each day in very tough conditions(middle of a front in freezing rain) finished 92nd out of 605 teams. Every fish caught on an original z man 1/2 ounce chatterbait. Im a believer now.
