  1. How many fish a jig on braid with no leader?
  2. That was the first fish of the day so whenI put it in the livewell she was done fishing and played in the water trying to catch the fish the rest of the evening. She loves the boat and usually listens pretty well. I have been letting her play in the boat at home since she was able to walk so she would not be afraid of it. She loves to go out in the mudboat also. She will definitly be a little outdoors girl.
  3. That's how my daughter was about 6 months ago she was not real interested. She is 2 years and 3 months now. I have been letting her practice reeling in with a plastic plug at the house and I think she's finally got it now. Casting is next!
  4. I had more fun doing this than catching any fish myself. She hooked and landed this one all on her own! I casted it out for her and not 10 seconds after I gave her the rod a nice perch slammed it. VIDEO LINK BELOW http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v113/dirt2/?action=view&current=VID2000012-20100801-1712.mp4 The last pic is after the fight.
  5. Is flouro really that dense that it would actually pull a retreived bait down?
  6. I already have 9 rods rigged up for different presentations without one for Jigs as I have never dedicated myself to Jig fishing. Well the time has come and I want to gain some confidence with Jigs.My morning top water consist of a buzz bait rod, a pop-r rod, a7'8" H braid rig with a Spro or Spro JR tied on, and a Kistler 7' MH rod w/ 65# braid I use for Ribbits, Horny Toads etc. I usually throw all of these until around 8 am then switch to other techniques when it heats up. What are your opinions on replacing the Braid on my buzz frog rod with 17# xps Flouro and using this as my Jig rod once the top water bite is over? I know Flouro is not recommended for topwater but since the buzz frog is a retreived lure I dont think it will be an issue. Also I usually only fish the buzz frog in sparse grass and opt for the Spro in heavy matted areas.
  7. I take my Boxer out from time to time and he loves it. Pretty much just relaxes and does not bother me much.
  8. Around here Freshwater vs Saltwater is like democrats vs Conservatives. There are very few like my self that have a passion for both. I have to defend myself all the time against my Saltwater buddies who have no appreciation of Bass fishing. I feel Bass fishing is way more rewarding due to the time and understanding of what it takes to catch Bass and the different presentations for different times of the year and even day. While you cant beat the fight of a Redfish its just not much of a rewarding feeling when you catch one. I can go out with one rod and one lure and catch all the redfish and trout I want. That's just not as much fun to me. I think most of the Bass bashers are just too lazy to put in the time to understand Bass Fishing, they want to hold a rod in one hand with a cork and a beer in the other which don't get me wrong I enjoy that from time to time also but if I had to choose between the two it would be Bass any day of the week. I am pretty much in he minority in my parts as i am located in Saltwater paradise. To each his own though, I guess it depends on your personality, I rather Sit in a Deer stand all winter and kill a couple Deer vs Blast dozens of ducks. It's all about the challenge to me. I had to join a Bass club just so I could make some new friends that appreciate this great sport.
  9. Ive been playing around with this knot latley and so far love it on my straight shank flipping hook with braid. I remember reading that it would not work or be difficult with an offset worm hook but I decided to try it anyway with my buzz frog 5/0 EWG set up with braid also and it works just fine just have to work it around the bend which was not hard at all. I am wondering if this will change the action of the frog at all? I do like that it helps hold the nose of the frog in place.
  10. I have never really been a fan of Berkley soft baits but have recently been impressed with the chigger craw so I picked up a pack of these at BPS to try on a spot remover. I pulled them out the pack when I got home and was pretty impressed with the profile and feel of this bait. It feels like it will have incredible action and has a slightly bulkier profile then a zoom finesse worm. I think I will try it out on a wacky rig also. While I dont plan on throwing out my trick and finesse worms I may just add these to the arsenal. They just look like a fish catching machine. I almost wanted to eat them when I pulled them out the pack....
  11. I have a 7' M XF Kistler Carbon Steel I use for throwing wacky rigged finesse worms with a 1/8 oz weighted hook with a casting reel that would be perfect for throwing a shaky heads. They are very light and sensitive and can be had for $109. I plan on buying a spinning model so I can have my wacky and shaky head rigged at all times.
  12. Cliff Crochet and Greg Hackney so I could get some helpful info on my local waters. Cliff did an awesome job this year especially for a rookie.
  13. I try to stick with black or dark gray rods and silver or black reels. One reason I choose Revos over Curado's is because I hate the green color on the Curados.I do still have 2 old Curados that I still use.
  14. What about water clarity in relation to color? I would think dark natural colors such as greens and browns would work better in Gin clear water but I know alot of folks like to throw whites and bright colors in clear water...
  15. 17#P-Line CX would be a good choice.I fished wacky rigged finesse worms with this line on Fork this past spring with no problems.
  16. Probally should have asked for advice before ordering but I ordered some 1/8 Buckeye Spot Remover Jig heads. Are these a good all around jig head for shaky head fishing? I have a MH BPS Tourney Special spinning rod with a Pleuger President reel spooled with 10#YoZuri I plan on using for this application being the rod gets no use currently other than lending to friends who cant throw a baitcaster when I bring them fishing. Should I go with lighter line?
  17. Third cast on the Vibra Shock!Like it already..
  18. The selection of light wire weedless wacky hooks seems to be scarce especially in a weighted option.
  19. Wish I knew...I have not caught a fish on a Jig. Maybe I should spend more time fishing one. I do have some Ezee Jigs in my bow though. They look good with a Zoom Speed craw trailer. Just dont have confidence in jigs yet.
  20. There are many worm binders that will probally fit your needs. Not sure if you have an Academy Sports around you but thats where I picked mine up at. It holds like 40 packages of soft plastics. Maybe more.
  21. I predict the revo s will cast a lighter lure further than the stx.
  22. Ghost minnow Cavitron with gold blade! Now if I could only keep the redfish from destroying them...
  23. Do you think these will do ok for throwing trick worms?
  24. I ended up going with these in the 1/32 weight. They are made from a local Louisiana company called Falcon Lures. We will see how it goes.
