  1. Just read on Bassmaster that John Crews will be fishing the tournament class rods and reels for 2011.
  2. 00Mod , We have some things in common. I started off in karts when I was 10 then started running stock cars when I was 14 before I could even drive on the street. Just recently gave it a couple of years ago when I blew an engine I just had sunk 9k into running a limited late model that I bought after selling my street stock. Sold out and decided to build a house and have a couple kids. I miss it alot and still drive a friends car from time to time when I cant stand it anymore. I just dont have the time or money to compete right now. If you can't go at it with all you got its not worth trying to compete. Here is a couple pics of cars that I have built and raced. The latest car i've built is the yellow streetstock for a friend of mind.I won 4 features last year driving this car on a limited basis. Your advice on the sponsorship was spot on. Bass fishing has helped keep my mind off racing and at least gives me something to do competively. I am already working on a plan to try and fish some Bassmaster opens possibly next year!
  3. Yeah this fish looked like a spawner. I'm curious to find out what it was feeding on. I did not see shad the whole weekend so I'm guessing Bluegill.
  4. I am aware of doing that but it was pretty much a laid back club deal nothing serious so we were there for fun also.
  5. Fished a club tourney this weekend on a very unique little 260 acre lake with two deep creek channels and plenty flats and drop offs. Friday for practice the fishing Gods were on my side and I managed a 4.5,6.5 and a 7-10oz fish. The 4.5 was caught on a creek ledge in 18ft or so, the 6.5 came off a submerged brushpile in 25ft on a jig/paca craw(first jig fish) and the 7-10 came in 1ft of water on a black buzzbait right before dark. Fish seemed to be deep and shallow for the most part. Something changed the next two days for the tourney and i only manged 1 keeper in two days of fishing. 1.42lbs took the win on sunday...
  6. I am just as comfortable with both. I have leftys and rightys...makes no difference to me.
  7. Just ask them whens the last time they seen a football player eat a football????
  8. Interesting KVD had a Stanley Wedge on his boat being he pushes SK. Stanley spinnerbaits are one of my favorites.
  9. Wow I posted this as a joke and actually learned there is such a thing!
  10. Just wondering if anyone has tried wacky rigging a crankbait?
  11. I know there have been several threads on this already so dont mean to beat a dead horse but figured I would share something I have decided to do with my plastics since my old worm binder was maxed out While worm binders are nice they are limited on how much you can pack in there. I rather have all my plastics with me rather than just taking a few bags of what you think you may need and running out or not having something the fish may want that day. This more geared towards someone who fishes from there boat. If fish as a non boater or co angler you will have to compromise and be selective on what to bring with you for the day. I removed all of my packages from my current worm binder. I the categorized them by. Straight Tail"trick worm" Straight Tail"Finesse" Ribbon Tail -4-6" Ribbon Tail - 7-10" Creature Bait Craw Bait Stick Bait Fluke/Shad Frog Paddle Tail/Speed Worms I place all like baits in a heavy duty worm binder bags and will put these in a shallow rubbermaid plastic container that will fit in my dry storage compartment in my boat. When not on the water I can slide the container under my bed in the ac to keep the plastics out of the heat. This should make life much easier when trying to find baits on the water not to mention it will prevent the baits from becoming deformed due to being jammed up in the worm binder.
  12. Any one still using them?I know they have been around awhile but you dont here much about them.
  13. Were you guys spider rigging for crappies? Nope, fishing a club tourney. When I pulled up to pick him up. He had 3 piles of rods standing against his truck. I thought it was a joke at first.
  14. Depends on who your boater is. My last co angler brought 17 spinning rods. I had them on my deck in my rod box and filled up my secondary rod storage area. He could not sit in the passenger seat. He had to sit in the middle right next to me. I made the best of it and laughed it off. I think he used two rods all day.
  15. I think the great thing about the brush hogs is that they are proven fish catchers and cost half of what some of the latest and greatest stuff cost. If Zoom would come out with a Beaver Bait I would see no need to have anything but zoom in my boat. Big Bite Baits also has came on strong and are priced even lower than zoom. The fighting frog is an awesome little flipping bait.
  16. baby brush hog sk game hog want to try the big bite baits kreit creature, looks like a killer bait.
  17. Well, we currently have four or five "line" threads running on this page. Typically, we have at least one new post every other day. So...there is nothing we are going to do about it, the membership can respond or just move on to something else. -Kent Understood...Istill enjoy reading everyones responses just letting him know what to expect. There are so many quality lines, rods, reels, out there that it would be easier to recommend what products to stay away from rather than what is the "best". I am guilty of starting such threads myself. Some times you just cant help it.
  18. Oh boy here we go...Prepare for 50 different answers.Kinda like asking what kinda car should I drive. 12-17lb xps flouro for what its worth...
  19. I have actually been thinking about a carrot for my spinning rod. I have one crankin carrot stick now and I actually love it for cranking. I think they get alot of negative attention for some reason but so far I have nothing bad to say of mine. I will be throwing mostly 1/8 ounce weighted wacky hooks with finesse worms so I'm leaning towards M or ML with a fast action. Probally going with 8# InvisX Flouro as I will be mainly fishing sparse cover and edges of grass beds most of the time. I am worried about the visibility of braid for finesse fishing as most of my waters are pretty clear due to the abudance of filtering grass. I will also use this set up for shaky heads as well. I am thinking 6'6" for accuracy.
  20. I think I'm going to break down and invest in spinning outfit for my light weight wacky rigged finesse worm fishing. Currently i'm using a M power fast action 7' Kistler casting rod and while it cast with no problem I think I am losing out on a little distance and accuracy. I would like to be able to pitch to tight spots and under over hanging trees etc which I cannot do now with my casting set up do to the light weight of the lure. I dont want to break the bank so here is what im thinking 6'9" ML power Vendetta x-fastaction Abu Cardinal spinning reel or..... Has anyone used the spinning reels by Falcon? I think it would look pretty sweet mounted on a Vendetta.
  21. I've only fish the Bend 3 times in my life and I've done very well in an area I hear nothing about which is way up North in the Cow Bayou area. Is this not a productive area? It seems the water clarity is not that great. We slaugthered them on a chatterbait.
  22. Here is a better map it looks like they have two creeks that dump into this lake. May be a good place to start.
  23. Fishing a tourney here in Oct. I would think 8-10' flats close by deep water and shallow coves.
  24. Last weekend while fishing a club tourney on my home lake I witnessed the LDWF stopping a guy 30 yards from where I was fishing who was reported by someone to the authorities for running fish to there camp. Here is the story. Release Date: 08/25/2010 Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) Enforcement Division agents cited two Jefferson parish men on Aug. 21 for allegedly possessing over the legal limit of bass in St. Charles Parish. The agents were conducting surveillance near Lake Cataouatche in St. Charles Parish when they observed Elvin J. Rome, 53, of Marrero, and Richard Doucet, 52, of Westwego, rapidly catching fish. The agents continued surveillance until the subjects stopped fishing and followed them to a camp. When the agents contacted the subjects, they discovered 92 black bass in their possession. The daily limit for largemouth bass is 10 per person. The penalty for over the limit of black bass is a fine up to $350, or jail time up to 30 days, or both plus court costs. A court order restitution for the value of the illegally taken fish will also be filed with the case. The fish were seized and later donated to a local charity. Agents involved in the investigation were Sgt. Ray Champagne, Senior Agent Tim Fox and Agent Terry Hicks. For more information, contact Capt. Stephen McManus at 504-284-2023 orsmcmanus@wlf.la.gov. 2010-E49
  25. They started making jigs also. I have not fished them yet but they look like very good quality.
