  1. as for your reels , a 6.3:1 reel is pretty fast so i think you can use either one for both purposes . as for a frog rod , i like a heavy powered , fast tip rod . i want my rod to have plenty of backbone but be able to flex just enough at the top 1/3 of the rod to be able to fight the fish and more importantly be able to set the hook with out too much flex thru out the rod . for flipping ,i want a really stiff rod with an extra fast tip , i am not worried about fighting the fish cause i'm fishing close in and with the stout line i'm using , i'll horse em' in quick . the extra fast tip will let me feel the bite but want that stiff blank to set the hook and pratically hoist the fish to me . so i guess you just want to see what rod can do that for you and then decide .
  2. just might have to get one or two to see how they are , they are definitely cheap
  3. just looking on cabelas and seen that their prodigy rods are on sale for $50.00 !!!! http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/standard-item.jsp?_DARGS=/cabelas/en/common/catalog/item-link.jsp_A&_DAV=MainCatcat20166-cat20372&id=0064413123855a&navCount=62&podId=0064413&parentId=cat20372&masterpathid=&navAction=push&catalogCode=9IS&rid=&parentType=index&indexId=cat20372&hasJS=true
  4. the VS reels are built like tanks , all aluminum construction , 13-16 bearings , a little on the heavy side but Okuma is becoming a big player in the rods and reels segement of this industry .... http://www.***.com/Okuma_VS_Spinning_Reel/descpage-OKVS.html
  5. that is hilarious ;D ;D ;D
  6. i imagine that your talking about a medium powered rod , right ? ! if so it also depends on the action (fast , extra fast , moderate ,etc..) cause if it had a moderate action it would be perfect for crankbaits (small -medium diving baits )
  7. i would choose the cumara in a heartbeat , i really don't care for loomis rods . i would get the CUC-72mh instead , the mh extra fast is more of a heavy powered rod . you would be better off with the medium heavy fast action for the baits you want to throw .
  8. i don't like either of them !!! yozuri's paint schemes are lacking ...........
  9. I painted the deep diver on the bottom.....not the others! that deep diver paint sceme is sick !!! that ain't no firetiger !!!
  10. the rapala dt bluegill color is one of the best bluegill patterns on a crankbait !!!! i kill em' on the dt 10 . anyhow , i also will NEVER throw a firetiger colored lure
  11. has anyone used these , have you used the 8" one and how do they compare to Sebiles Magic Swimmer ???
  12. Help me out. I do pretty good with a spinnerbait, but don't use my lipless cranks very much... there is dust on them. I would like to catch some fish with a lipless. How would you use a lipess crank in a deep water lake? I mostly fish long points. Thanks. for deep lakes , wich is where i throw my lipless crankbaits the most , i throw the 3/4 oz. red eye shad and cast it out as far as i can and then just let it shimmy it's way down till it hits bottom then start a fairly slow retrieve with litle pauses to let it fall back down to the depth i want to work it at . i find that fished slow is the most productive retrieve for me ....
  13. rage tail anacondas , rage tail shads , storm bluegill , western plastics salamander , yum money minnows , yum buzz frogs , buzz baits , and a few more i can't think of right now ....
  14. first of all , fishing is a joy for me , when i fish with people , i want them to catch fish too , if we get into some friendly competition , it is in fun so to answer your question , i wouldn't mind one bit , i would want to him or her to copy me so they can learn and catch fish too if i was catching them pretty good .
  15. i was just kidding , man , would i love to go fish some of the farm ponds out there , you wouldn't believe the pressure on some of these lakes out here !!!! my sister lives in chantilly , Virginia and she owns some property that has a big pond on it , i am dieing to go out there and fish it for about 2 weeks straight !!!!!
  16. as far as it being a "swimbait" , i think it qualifies . alot of people have different views on what is or isn't . for example , a Lunker Punker IS a swimbait , some will argue but it is always classed as one . for me , the only problem i have about baits being called "swimbaits" are the hollow tube baits ( hollow belly's , Basstrix , Yum Money minnows , etc..) they are just that , hollow tube baits with a boot tail ............
  17. if it is brand new i would just put it on the shelf as a collectors bait , they don't make them any more . they look a little out of place compared to realistic baits you commonly see , alot of japanese baits are like that . i have never heard of big fish caught on those , you never know : i , myself , would not have much confidence in a bait like that , so for 6 bucks , you got a nice decoration ......
  18. relax , every fishing trip is an education !!! don't make it a contest of pride , but listen and learn so maybe you can out fish him when you are both on the same playing field , meaning you will both know the hatch and best baits , just fish your strenths with the structure that you encounter and learn from the fish as to what they want , you should be able to establish some kind of pattern within the first day or so then start pulling em' in
  19. hey bro , you need to move away from the sticks and come out to the west coast !!!!
  20. x2 , what he said . by talking to him he will give you facts about forage so you can throw baits that match the lakes bait fish and he will know structure to fish , go from there and select baits accordingly . just cause you like a bait , doesn't mean it will work where you are fishing . good luck on the trip and have fun
  21. yeah it's at the anaheim store . even tho it was not as big as last years ( cause they had canceled it about a month and a half before then said it will be a go , by then alot of the manufactures went to the Bass Jam instead ) but hopefully this year it will be packed , should be sometime in Nov. , a ways away but now is the time to save up !!!! Blackdog , Tylures , 22nd century swimbaits , Mattlures , and others usually have custom one-offs there . i can't wait ... so what did you get ?????
  22. what did you get ??? i kinda figured he wouldn't be there cause he PM'ed me last night around 11 pm on SBN . did you make it to the bass-a-thon last year ??? next time you go to a show , let me know so we can meet up ;)btw , if the Long Beach show wasn't that good , that means the del mar show is gonna S*ck , oh well , still gonna go :-/
  23. dang it !! , i wanted to go tomorrow or even sunday but it aint gonna happen :-[ > guess i will have to wait till it comes to San Diego in a week and a half . not gonna be as good as the long beach show ... and Tyler isn't gonna go to that one ... Pm him on SBN , he responds pretty quick ... btw , was his brother there ??? did they have the buy 3 get one free ??? thats what i did at the Bass-A-Thon . i got 2 -8" kicker trouts , one slow sink so.ca trout and one yellow trout in wake/ floater. 1-6" wake/float so.ca trout and a custom male blue gill slow sink %' sunfish . i really want to get some of the buoy rats , wish i was there :-[
  24. i use the improved clinch for braid all the time , and yes , even on spiderwire stealth with NO problems . but you didn't mention if the breakoffs happened during a backlash or if you think the braid had dug into the spool . when braid digs into the spool , it will stop the line and with the no-stretch aspects of braid , it wil cause too much stress on the line and cause it to break suddenly . i have had this happen to me using 30 lb. Power Pro throwing frogs that weigh only 1/2-5/8 of an ounce . so don't be suprised if this continues to happen . mine and probably alot of other peoples advice is to go up in line dia. , to maybe 20-30 lb. braid or use a good mono , co-poly, or florocarbon line . you didn't say what kind of reel you are using , but maybe that would help get better recommendations . as far as Spidedrwire braid goes , alot of people use it , i don't , but i doubt that it is the line but rather the user not using the RIGHT line .....
