  1. a 2500 size spinning reel works just as good with 2 or 4 lb line . i spool my 2500's with 2-6 lb. line all the time since i also like to fish crappies( 6 lb.) blue gill(2-4 lb.)and trout (2-6 lb.) with the 2500 size you get more line options , 6-8 lb. line doesn't do so well on a 1000 size reel ........
  2. had a decent spinning combo go in the water , was fishing for spotted bay bass ( off a small pier , salt water ) and had my rod up against the railing with the line in the water when a big ole' pelican swooped down of the railing and hit the line and pulled it over the rail super fast and it sank even faster . i didn't even get mad , i just thought "oh well" ( you get to have that attitude from fishing big swimbaits that get cast off and they are the sinking models and once they go down in 20-50 ft. of water there aint a dang thing you can do but write off 35+ $$$ ) but then three hours later i was throwing a deep diving crank bait and snagged the line . i started pulling on the line expecting it to come up at any time but after about 100 yards of 8# CXX on a sedona 4000 , i realized that i had set my drag really low and all i was doing was pulling off line on my reel . i then thought why not use my baitcaster to pull it up !!! so i joined the lines with a uni-to-uni knot and reeled my spinning combo up just took it to the public bathroom and rinsed it off good now i only bring cheapy spinning combos that i am going to set against the pier railing !!!!
  3. that is the same one i posted a link to , plus it has another chart in there . thanks , that link was in a topic you posted awhile back , thought i couldn't find it , but checked again and found it
  4. what is it for ?? i have been using my Inshore and i'll tell you it is a sweet reel , it is made for inshore/ salt water fishing but it is built just like the stx but with centrifugal brakes (like the S , winch , skeet reese , toro ) i have two brakes set and just use the cast control for different weight baits . it has a ton of line capacity(12/175) , excellent if you are using 50 or 65 lb. braid , has the 24 lb. drag and even tho it only has 7 bearings , it feels just as smooth as my SX that has 11 . just wanted to throw this out there , give you another option . just don't think that this reel is just a saltwater reel , if no one told you , you wouldn't know http://www.tackletour.com/reviewabugarciarevoinshore.html
  5. i like rods out of the norm too , that's why i like to have mine custom made !! in choosing a blank , let's say it's 7'6'' , you can always have some taken off the butt end of it and make it a 7'3'' or even a 7'5'' and 3/4" . i guess if you really look at all the rod manufactures , they have a rod in almost every increment (inch) you can imagine , so to say something is "odd" doesn't seem to apply as far as rods 6'6" - 8'. anyhow , being different is for me is having what i exactly want instead of compromising with what is "the standard offering" ........
  6. good photoshop work on your avatar , that is standing on the handi-cap dock at dixon lake where i fish alot , and no , you did not catch dottie :
  7. check with the manufacturer of the blank . that measurement is always given as is the butt dia. or you can get a tiptop gauge http://www.acidrod.com/tools_measuring.html also , here is a chart
  8. chigger craws and the craw papi , are my favorite craws , must haves for jig trailers and for pitching and punching mats
  9. duh , i did another search and found it :, so here it is in case some other people might want to see it , you have to scroll down a little http://www.gamefishin.com/wa/features/linetest.htm .
  10. does anyone know where the line strength chart some one posted awhile back , it had the breaking strength of alot of lines , just can't seem to find it , a little help please :-/
  11. 1. big , deep diving crankbaits 2. deep running spinnerbaits 3. jig and a plastic craw with a large profile .
  12. has anyone used the rapala mini 50 lb. digital scale ??? http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_10203288_100011004_100000000_100011000?cmCat=CROSSSELL_THUMBNAIL
  13. i'm gonna get the 35 lb. TEC scale , the berkly scale i have is the 50 lb. one ...
  14. deep crankbaits reeled super slow is what i do , also like to throw the 3/4 oz. red eye shad yo-yoing it up off the bottom .
  15. just a good shad color , i like that color on my lipless crankbaits
  16. throw what you usually use , small fish don't know they are small , they will hit regular size baits
  17. The Smooooth Drag washers are made out of carbon fiber and you coat them with a fine layer of star drag grease whereas if you disassemble a Abu Revo Skeet or Premier one of the drag washers is made out of some sort of plastic and both are bone dry. I dont have an SX, but do have one Skeet, 2 Premiers, 2 Toros, 2 STX's and a few Winch's and after upgrading one reel with the Smooooth Drags I did it to all of them so to answer your question, In my opinion, yes it will be smoother thanks
  18. i know you don't want hear this but i think you might make the move away from the extremes , just seem like they don't last :-/ you know you want to , just go ahead and do it already ;D ;D ;D
  19. i don't throw swimbaits 90% of the time to catch the dinks , we'll see what this year brings
  20. you weren't actually thinking of getting this thing were you j/k !!!
  21. it is the megaforce plus http://www.***.com/Daiwa_Megaforce_Plus_Casting_Reels/descpage-DMFP.html i wouldn't give 10 bucks for that thing ....
  22. i don't think you are , i demand to get good customer service from a company that i am giving my hard earned money to > if i don't get it , i no longer buy their products , no matter how good they are !! i hope everything works out for you :-/
  23. i like longer rods for cranking , 7'6"-7'11" (haven't used a 8'er yet ) and pretty much every technique for that matter . gonna have all the rods i get made be at least 7'6" , the only rod that i use regularly that is not that long is my 7' carrot stix . as for throwing crankbaits with a long rod , i like to make long casts and can really get the distance i'm after with the longer casting rods . as for topwater , i don't throw much except for frogs , and using the longer rods work great , i actually use my 2-6 oz. swimbait rod wich is 7'10" . as for jerkbaits , i only throw flukes , and also prefer the longer rods .
  24. Here ya go: http://tackletog.com/superttuning/2010/03/05/custom-r-tuned-pixy/ thank you !!! , looks like a job a good airbrush artist can do , got to start contacting some
  25. in your opinion , would it make the drag on a REVO SX smoother ????
