  1. you can use what ever you want between 6-25 lb. flouro , a uni-to-uni or an alberto knot will allow for different size diameters . i use 30 lb. braid alot and vary my co-poly or flouro lines between 10-20 lbs. and i use the uni-to-uni knot .
  2. check out the Okuma evx 7'6" flipping stick , thehttp://www.***.com/Okuma_EVX-A_Casting_Rods/descpage-OEVXCR.html one at the bottom
  3. they used to be , but Izorline spectra and Tuf line xp are just as good if not better . Tuf line is the documented strongest braid out on the market
  4. all you have to do is cast past the bed and then when it sinks enough , swim it into the bed , just as easy as that
  5. just go out and get a swimbait rod and a good reel and buy a couple of baits that won't intimidate you and go fish them !!! i throw swimbaits every time i fish , there are alot of days i get skunked on the big baits , but i do get good size fish on them , it is just up to you how much you get into it , me , i'm already there ... i pursue this lifestyle greatly !!! anyhow , you just have to do it , you can talk till your blue in the face about but you will never know till you try it. start with 6" hudds , matts hard-gill , tylures 6" kicker trouts , and maybe a 6" bbz . you can throw all of those on a flipping rod with 15-20 lb. line , so you don't have to invest that much right now , just stay away from crappy baits like castaic and reaction strike and you will be all right
  6. i have never taken a bass to eat nor will i ever , i will release all bass !!! i don't care if it is dying , gut hooked or whatever , cat fish will eat any fish that dies in the lakes i fish . if the bass is good size , i will taks a picture of it and then get it back in the water as soon as possible . around where i live they don't stock bass . they stock trout and catfish seasonally , so i take home trout (for my girlfriend) and an occasional catfish . if i'm fishing a lake with crappies , i take home any that are gut hooked ....
  7. not that i advocate it, but they are good bed fishing baits ....
  8. yes the line tie does move , it is like a double ended eyelet , one end connects to the hook , the other one is the line tie . to swap out the hooks , you have to sometimes cut a split in the belly , use needle nose pliers and seperate the "line tie" that connects the hook , change out the hook , then crimp the "line tie" back again , seal the belly with silicone adhesive . make sure you let the silicone dry at least over night and leave it out in the open so to air out(cause of the slight fumes) . a suggestion if you like , try the Owner frog hooks , the best made frog hooks in my opinion . i used to change out the gamakatsu stock hooks cause they seem to dull easy and bend out from the body after being stuck on tules , Owners don't
  9. you wanna talk about a braid that does not need to be broken in and has no teflon or waxy coating , you have to talk about Triple Fishes Bully Braid , to bad they don't make it any more (tho can be had on the internet )
  10. that's what happens when people abuse the warranty programs these companies offer :
  11. Please tell me that's not a "crazy" knot. yes , it was named after "crazy" Alberto Knie ...
  12. Thats good to hear as my local rod guy is putting the finishing touches on a 7'6" heavy fast micro guide spiral wrap rod Should have it early next week!! that will be a sweet rod , you are gonna never go back to conventional guides !!! give the forum a review on it after you fish it awhile , people would like to hear about it
  13. cause you are gonna be using it for both bass and walleye , you might look into the 2500 and the 4000 size reels . a good reel that is inexpensive is the shimano sedona , i have the 4000 size , i use it for surf fishing and pier fishing (salt water) . a really good reel that would work for both species well .
  14. i imagine that people should , stained cork looks hideous !! that's why i use eva split grip handles !!! i say that the positive effects of the sealer out weigh the things you don't like about it .....
  15. try some izorline premium spectra braid , does not "bleed" like others . power pro is good also , but don't try the red colored braid , it bleeds like it was actually bleeding ;D
  16. micro guides are an excellent component to a rod . you will see more companies start to use them . ALOT of custom builders are using them , actually alot of them are using them for almost all of their builds . it even gets better when you incorporate them with a spiral wrap
  17. for using power bait dough , i use a size 5 split shot about 3-5 ft. up from a size 12-14 treble hook . you want the split shot to be just big enough to get to the bottom . i use this rigging with no leaders , no swivels , just attach the split shot on the main line ( 4-6 lb. p-line CXX) and as far as how much power bait to use , i alot on the hook , maybe 3/4" dia. ball of the dough
  18. Izorline XXX is the closest to Gamma co-poly in my opinion
  19. here is their website http://www.livetargetlures.com/
  20. the park rangers don't trip on it , i always ask them if some people have caught limits of trout and have they cleaned them in the clean out room there at the lake ....
  21. they have a 5 year limited warranty , i doubt it is over the counter ...
  22. like i said on the top of page 2 of this topic , i would almost bet money that it was stored next to a leaky car battery , i hope Jfrancho will check into it and report back
  23. i use a Browning jumbo worm binder , i feel it is the best made worm binder on the market , it is built to last , made of good materials , and heavy duty zippers . i have mine stuffed !!!! http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_103999_999043014_650000000_999043012_100-22-2
  24. i was put off by this because , as many remember , Bantam 1 toted this as power pro coming out with a 16 strand braid but in fact it was this , a hollow braid used for knotless leaders . well i for one wouldn't like to have to do this in a boat or even from the shore while on a day of fishing , this is more of a salt water application that is trying to be touted as good for freshwater applications , seems like power pro is pushing it , yeah literally :
  25. when i use jigs i also like to use a trailer with a bigger profile in colder water . i try to keep the presentation slow and do smaller "hops" off the bottom then i normally would when the water is warmer and the fish are more active . as for the "action" of your trailer , i like the craw to have big "claws" that stand up as long as possible (defensive posture), especially for the slow presentations
