  1. good post of that video !!! they seem to have the same fall as a Senko !!! thanks
  2. this is a mandatory item in my night fishing box !!!! ;D ;D ;D
  3. lipless crankbaits , mostly Red-eye shads and an excaliber one knocker (all in sexy shad colors ) and also 5" stick baits wacky rigged lubed up with Pro Cure scent (trophy bass scent !!) and a few swimbaits ....
  4. what stick bait do you guys think are the best option comparable to the senko ? :-? i chose Srike King ocho's and Yum dingers ..
  5. when your throwing baits that weigh up to 2 lbs. , you need a rod that is stiff as 1/2" re-bar !!!! If I threw a bait that big in MN I think I would scare 90% of the Bass. I wish we had Bass as big as they grow in CA and a lot of the southern states! However, there is quality lg. and sm. mouth fishing up here. Good # of pike to bite your line off too!! i was referring to muskie baits , the biggest bass swimbaits usually don't go over a pound or maybe a little over that . you would be suprised what size bait a bass will hit !! guys have caught 1-2 lb. bass on 10" swimbaits , believe it
  6. no you don't . when choosing a reel for swimbaits , you want to look for optimal gearing . for swimbaits you want a slower gear ratio as to be able to work your baits at the speed you want . also just as important is that you want a reel to be able to hold plenty of the # test line you will be using . i use a low profile baitcaster that is just a little bigger than standard size low profile reels , i use the Revo toro 51 , it can hold plenty of 20,25, and 30 lb. line . i have the 5.4:1 gear ratio which is great for most swimbaits but i am gonna get the Revo toro winch that has a 4.6:1 gear ratio , gonna use it for Hudds , and big top water wake baits . so take those two things - line capacity and gear ratio - into account for making a decision on the reel you want for swimbaits reels good for throwing small swimbaits - 1. Revo winch 2. curado e5 3. Revo Inshore 4. smaller round reels reels for bigger baits- 1. Revo toro 2. Revo toro winch 3. Diawa luna 4. Shimano curado 300e 5. Shimano calcutta 6. shimano cardiff
  7. as far as weights for punching , i try to use just enough weight to get through to the bottom , if the rig drops too fast i will upsize the bait . i hate to have a small bait with a big weight anyhow , seems like a lot of strikes i miss are because of the bass mouthing the weight and not getting the hook . i like bigger plastics for punching so i can use a bigger hook as to not have the problem i just mentioned . good post catt
  8. seems like i recently heard someone say that somewhere :-?
  9. those things are tanks !!! i would never use one of those things , they weigh over 10 ounces !!!!! OMG!! 10oz!!! OMG!! The 100b Calcutta weighs .5oz more than a winch. I like both Shimano and Abu, but you take Abu fandom to Dodgeguy/Fireline levels sometimes. : the poster wasn't talking about the 100 size , he was talking about the 200 size which weighs 10.1-10.4 ozs. a little heavier than a winch , huh : around the same weight as the toro winch though !!! as far as "fandom" , i like Revo reels cause i haven't found other reels that compare to them , especially the toro series for throwing swimbaits . gona try the new smoke reels by quantum when they become available , so we shall see ;D
  10. when your throwing baits that weigh up to 2 lbs. , you need a rod that is stiff as 1/2" re-bar !!!!
  11. muskie rods are VERY good swimbait rods . St.croix muskie rods are fantastic !! if your budget is big , go with the legend tournament muskie rods , the sling blade(2-6 oz. baits) and the king of big bait throwing , the Big Dawg !!(4-10 oz.baits) both of these rods are 8'6" . they are expensive but well worth the investment . if your budget is lower , try the 8'6" XHF premier , pretty much the same as the Big Dawg but a little heavier and not as strong. btw, the Big Dawg will handle baits up to 16-18 oz. baits , yeah , WAY underated as far as lure rating !!! Micro , if your only throwing baits up to 3 ozs. , you don't need a muskie rod !! there are plenty of swimbait rods out there that would suit your needs easily , check out Dobyn's 795 mike long version swimbait rod , it is 7'9" long and is rated for baits from 1-5 ozs. , this rod throws light baits very good as well as baits in the 4-5 oz. range very well . http://www.***.com/Dobyns_Mike_Long_Signature_Swimbait_Rods/descpage-DCMLT.html
  12. i don't use any Megastrike products. as for your Megastrike scent , i don't use it , smelled it once and wasn't impressed by the smell , tried Pro Cure and will use nothing else . Pro Cure has many different scents that have a certain applications . if Megastrike would make different scents (trout , crawfish , shad ,etc..) and had the actual smell and taste of said scents i would consider using it , but as it is , Pro cure is , to me , the best scent out on the market !!!!
  13. x2 on the BBZ-1 jr !!! this bait has impressed me a lot , i have the floater in trout color . it suspends a few inches below the surface and has very nice action when given little twitches made on a slow retrieve !!!
  14. i definetly want one or two of those lip-grippers , thanks for a recommendation on them
  15. Owner is coming out with a size 5 st-36 stinger hook . they announced it at ICAST
  16. order one from lakewood and they are on sale for $84.95 !!!!! they used to cost $144.95 , i am gonna have to get me one !!!! http://www.lakewoodproducts.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=4&products_id=22
  17. take a look at these , i think they might still be able to be had for alot less than retail at some places http://www.tackletour.com/reviewlakewooda048.html
  18. that is exactly right , $15.95 each for the spool bearings and 8 and change for the drag washers . i am not gonna get the orange seals , too much of a hassle to reinstall them , get the stainless shields , and get the ABEC 7's , these are the ones going in all my Revo's ..... to pay 28 bucks for spool bearings they better be ABEC 9's :
  19. get a Winch !! those reels are smooth and solid Whats the difference between the the winch and the toro winch? Is the $80 more worth it? the toro winch is bigger in size and holds 200 yards of 14 lb. line where as the winch is the same size as the sx, stx , skeet reese , premier, etc.. i have a toro 51 , the same reel but the toro winch has 4.6:1 gears . my toro has 5.4:1 gears (they also make a 6.4:1 gear ratio) the toro and toro winch are best used for swimbaits or baits that require bigger test lines(i have 25 lb. line on it) or when you need A LOT of line !!!! here is a comparison , on the left is a Revo toro(same size as the Revo toro winch)and on the right is a Revo sx (same size as the winch)
  20. here is a place - http://www.bluelaketackle.com/fishing-line-cortland-master-braid-c-34_355_358.html?pfrom=From&pto=To&refine=Sort+by+Keyword++%28optional%29&categories_id=358&search_in_description=1&max_pages=10 another - http://www.muskyshop.com/modules/cart/products.php/nav_id/13/page/1/id/2312/name/CortlandMasterBraid
  21. another good co-poly that you should try is Izorline XXX . this line is strong and is quite supple , doesn't kink as much as P-line CXX which is why you get alot of breakoffs from these kinks in your line sometimes pretty far back into the spool . the only time i use cxx is when i need a lighter line for my spinning reels and then i use 6 lb. CXX . but anyhow , give some Izorline XXX a try , pretty cheap and an exceptional line . as far as Yo-zuri , you guys see something in that line that i don't see ! the worst line i have ever used , bar none !!! just my opinion 8-)
  22. I can echo the above statement. My quarry are snook, tarpon, jacks and barracuda and these fish are powerful. I have had no trouble with my supreme 35, Abu soron 40, stradic fi 4000 and Quantum Cabo 30. The stadic may be smoothest but not best in field, I give that honor to the Cabo, but it's on the heavy side. My hands down favorite is my soron 40. This being said, the rod is more important than the reel, most of the reels will do a more than adequate job. Forgive me for stepping on this thread but Sirsnook would you mind going into a little more detail about the Stradic not being best in field? I am about to order a new Stradic CI4 and would like to know any negative feedback you might have on it. i was gonna too till i seen that pfleuger patriarch magnesium , i am gonna wait till it comes out didn't want to buy a shimano in the first place so i am happy that i have another choice , a choice that should be a lot better , lighter , and better color scheme 8-)
  23. get a Winch !! those reels are smooth and solid
