you might want to use braid with a long leader ( 6-12 ft. ) of 6-8 lb. flouro as heavier line will kill a lot of the action of your stick bait . i think a lot of people use spinning gear cause they use light line which is optimal .
i fish nothing shorter than 7'6'' , my casting rod is 7'10'' , spinning rod is 7'8'' , swimbait rod is 9' , gonna have two 7'7'' rods built soon . after fishing longer rods it would feel awkward to fish a sub 7 footer .
casting a 2 oz. bait can easily be done on a flipping rod and pretty much any low profile reel with lower speed gears , as for line , you only need 15 lb. which you can fit plenty on a low profile reel ..
like Kent said , there a a lot of companies trying to garner reviews and publicity for their products . some one will register an account and their first or second post will look and sound exactly like yours . wasn't being rude , just trying to help keep these posts real and not marketing deception .this is a very good site and after a while of being on here , you'll understand where i'm coming from ...
if you're set on Abu Garcia , i would choose the Winch. same line capacity and about 3 ounces lighter ! what size baits are you throwing ??? i really consider the Beast reel is more of a musky reel , with the high gear ratio , it would be used for burning baits .
the braids i dislike are braids that flatten out and are not round , one that comes to mind is Izorline , most new braids these days are pretty round and does come down to personal preference ,
i also use hook caps for treble bait lures , i clip the corner off the rear hook cap on one so just one hook point is exposed allowing me to attach it to the hook keeper
I use a drop shot hook keeper on my rods (all custom ) but i think my next one i'm gonna drill a hole in my Fuji SK2 reel seat trigger , like whats on Phenix rods . i hate when lures sratch the rod blank if it works out good i'll drill out my other rods too .
while i like the post you made , i'm not interested in shelf baits ! i buy the rainbow trout Hudds to fish !! the website loads but i can't click on anything
boot tail soft swimbaits like Hudds work great in stained water , the tail throws off enough vibration to alert bass to your bait , even when slow fishing them along the bottom .
either get a short rod or start working out if you use long rods , you just have to get used to it ! i use a 9' swimbait rod that is pretty light for what the rod is and what it can do but even with a 18'' handle , it is pretty tip heavy , doesn't stop me from fishing it for 6-8 hours on the weekend ...
seaguars top flouro's are all have a lot of stretch , i would imagine their finnese would have it probably even more so . i , myself hate stretchy lines , i prefer to stick with Toray and Sunline .
seaguar is not eaven in the same class as Toray ...
to me , tatsu is more or less like a sinking copoly line , a lotta stretch , not what i look for in a flouro line .
I've tried several types of Sunline flouro and while their very good lines , when you want the best flouro and it's attainable , there is only one choice - Toray .....
i use the hudd bugs on a drop shot when targeting bass holding in grass lines so i pitch the bug into open water the drag it up to the grass so it suspends just into the grass , by working it up against the grass, i use it anywhere fom 12'' - 24'' above the weight .
