  1. besides a good warranty , you should very strongly consider a company with great customer service to back up the warranty , there are quite a few companies that offer good warranties but lack customer service . i am super picky when it comes to these things that's why i only deal with Phenix and St.Croix for rods , Lew's and Abu Garcia for reels . just had a fantastic experience with HawgTech !!! will definitely be buying more products from them !!
  2. i never have a problem with my connection knot on any of my braid to leader set ups , and i have micro guides on ALL of my rods . right now on my spinning set up i have 6 lb.Neon Lime 832 to 6 lb. Sniper running through 3.5 Fuji's /
  3. i use a 12-15 ft. flouro leader for the line to sink keeping a staighter path to my bait , taking the bow out of the line making hook sets quicker and bites to be detected a lot better . using the longer leader with braid eliminates all the headaches out of using flouro as a mainline ...
  4. i used Gamma torque for a little bit , it starts off good but after some use it gets way to soft , easily compararable to daiwa samuri braid . using 10 lb. Torque , with it getting so soft you get more wind knots at the rod tip . i use Sunline SX1 mainly , but also use 6 lb. 832 in neon green . overall , Sunline SX1 is really hard to beat ...
  5. i don't know , i don't use shimano products
  6. last week i picked up 10 rings of green burl for my next rod and 10 rings of brown burl for the rod after that !! i am loving the burl what do those reel seats weigh ??
  7. that's all i use ( kids Fiskars ) , and they cost about $ 2 ... * i use the blunt tip ones
  8. might take you awhile to get used to them to the point you're realizing what you are gaining by them . i have them on my casting rods , spinning rods , and swimbait rod . all the rods i have built and will be built will have them
  9. if you plan on spending that much on a rod , why don't you have a custom made ??
  10. this is a comparision of 20 lb. lines - (look at the diameter )
  11. if you are seriously gonna fish , get the best you can afford ...
  12. give the okuma a shot with the paddle tails , you might just like it ...
  13. those okuma swimbait rods are pretty moderate and the heavy is more like a medium heavy as their rating are over rated by quite a bit . you should be fine with that rod , it would actually excell for big crankbaits as that is essentially what it is , a big crankbait rod ...
  14. i know this thread is from 5 years ago but i only use co-poly for swimbaits , namely Gamma co-poly which is dia. to dia. , the strongest line on the market ! it does have a little memory but most all lines do when you get up in the 25 & 30 lb. lines .
  15. sounds like you were using power pro !
  16. Butch actually uses 20 lb. AbrazX , not invisx
  17. it's prety expensive but you get what you pay for
  18. if you want a Flourocarbon line that has minimal stretch , try some Sunline Shooter . it is best used as a leader . you should probably stay away from Seaguar Flouro's as they have a LOT of stretch .
  19. Owner wacky hook in 1/0 for 5'' stick baits ....
  20. all of my rods have micro guides ( spinning, casting, & swimbait rods ) , i tie a 12 -15 ft. leader of 6 lb. Sniper to 6 lb. braid ( neon lime 832 at the moment ) tied with a double or triple Surgeon's knot , i tie it on before i head out and fish it all day with no problems . same goes with my other baitcasting rod setups , 20 lb. braid to 8 lb Sniper or 10 lb. Shooter, 30 lb. braid to 14 lb Sniper ( swimbait rod is straight co-poly )
  21. tested it in a pool that was 46 degrees , 20 lb. neon lime 832 to a 12 ft. leader of 8 lb. Sniper , stock hooks ( size 2 )
  22. yeah i hear you on the round reels , i only use low-profile baitcasters , i have a Revo Toro 51 that has 5.4:1 gears in it and if i ever need another swimbait reel i would get another . my comment was about the newer low-profile swimbait reels .
  23. a lot of companies are coming out with '' swimbait reels '' that are 7.1:1 or higher which is way to fast to be slow rolling a Hudd or other slow retrieved baits , wish they would offer a 5 gear still .
  24. call them and ask for Clint .....
