  1. mostly in California we have the Red Swamp crawfish which is 85% or more red with a black stripe , some times the claws lighten up to shades of orange , purple , and grayish . just goes to show that bass will eat mostly anything even if the colors are unnatural
  2. i'm not that good of jig fisherman but that's my preference is 3/8 & 1/2 oz. jigs , i don't feel the need for anything bigger . if i need to go lighter , i'll texas rig the plastic with a tungsten weight . mostly all my trailers have red in them as most all of the crawfish i see in the lakes i fish are red .
  3. i just re-read this and realized you were talking about a spinning setup , i use Sniper and Sx1 braid on my spinning set up also , for a leader ,Sniper is all you need .....
  4. Owner hooks only -- Owner Wide gap plus - 3/0 , 4/0 , & 5/0 Owner Wacky hooks - 1/0 Owner Rig-n-Hook - 2/0,3/0, & 4/0 Owner Ultra Head - 3/32 & 1/8 Owner Beast Hooks - (un-weighted) - 4/0 & 6/0 Owner Oversized Hooks - 7/0 Owner ST-41's - size 6 - 2/0 and Owner Mosquito hooks - size 8 - 12 for Blugills .
  5. for leader material , you should be thinking Sunline Shooter ...
  6. please take a close up picture of the broken one(s) and of one of them that is still good , then post them . thanks
  7. glad i don't have weather like that ! it was in the 90's , coldest it will be in the next week is mid 70's
  8. from just regular fishing ??? did you step on them or damage them in some way ? something happened to them cause guides don't just break . ceramic rings crack and/or fall out , guide feet bend and might break off with continued straightning of bent guide feet/neck . but to just have more than one guide '' break '' , there has got to be more to the story ..
  9. on the NFC website at the top they just put up '' NORTH FORK COMPOSITES HAS EQUIPMENT AND OTHER ASSETS FOR SALE ''
  10. Zoom uses some of the cheapest plastic , vey stiff and dense . i think you got the two backwards , though yum isn't far behind , you get what you pay for ...
  11. so the guides were fine but the thread wraps failed ? if there are known issues with the guide wraps with Duckett , have them send you a new rod , sounds like a clear case of defective workmanship
  12. the 5s76MLXF-1 is on my short list !!! along with a couple more Phenix blanks , one or two 8' NFC's , and maybe a Point Blank blank .
  13. i think what Tom is saying is that flipping jigs in cover (wood , brush , laydowns , etc.), you are triggering reaction bites hence you not gonna need the sensitivity of flouro for light bites you'd get dragging a jig on the bottom . for me , i would use a leader if not straight flouro , i use 14 or 16 lb. Metan Green Shooter .
  14. one of these days when i get a place with more room for a workshop , i can't wait to get to building rods for myself as of this moment have plans for at LEAST 5 more rods
  15. that's pretty much the game of Hudds ! i tend to keep tight to the bottom and reel slooooow !!!!
  16. pretty sure the new white ice rods feature American Tackle Heavy duty micro guides , if they are , those are probably the strongest micro guide on the market ! i use them on all my rods including my swimbait rod .(don't have them on my spinning rod either ) the neck on those things are easily twice if not three times thicker than most micro guides .. did the guides break ? or did the thread wrap fail ??
  17. you have the IM SJ706 ?? the data for that rod is what i posted = ERN of 24.30 and AA of 73 , do you have a different blank ?? EDIT: just looked at the other thread and see that it is the IM SJ705 . that blank is said to have an ERN of 24.05 and an AA of 71.20
  18. handles on rods are personal tastses / choices ...
  19. they will just move on to a different blank manufacture like they've always done .
  20. i like rods 7'6'' - 8' , no way i could use a 7' rod , just feels awkward . i check out the ERN and AA on the NFC website , the 806 HM ERN is 23.84 and the AA is 75.60 the IM SJ706 has an ERN of 24.30 and the AA is 73
  21. nice clean build !!
  22. 8 lb. Sunline Sniper. i like flouro cause mono and braid tends to lift the lures nose a bit making it rise in the water column when you twitch it after a pause .
  23. try some Owner St-41's , as most people will tell you they are sticky sharp ..
