  1. I am trying to plan a trip to KY Lake sometime in April, but I do not have a boat and have never fished the area. With such a huge lake I have no idea where the perfect spot to shore fish would be? Does anyone have any advice or recommendations for shore fishing KY Lake? Also, would it be worth the cost to aquire the services of a guide?? I would rather just find those hot spots along the shore!
  2. I have recently purchased a King Kat Combo rod & reel from Cabelas. I purchased the 7' with MH action, and I was wondering if anyone has had some experience or knowledge about this combo...
  3. What is the proper way to rig a worm/freak-bait/lizards? When setting up the proper rig (carolina, wacky, texas) how does one decide which rig to use and why? Water conditions a huge factor? Actual physical conditions of the lake/pond (i.e-very mossy/downed logs)? Does the rigging of the worm play a huge part in successful fishing or is it more personal preference?
  4. Caught numerous box turtles, but recently caught a MONSTER soft-shell turtle off the bottom of the licking river with a hotdog, released with no problem luckily. Also caught a large water moccasin snake :-? while wading in the rapids of the licking.
  5. Over the summer I purchased the weedless scumFrog from basspro. I haven't had much luck with it tho..to be honest my best top-water bait has been a hard plastic cricket. This is what the scumFrog looks like, and it's weedless so that can come in handy if you want to drag it out of moss and such. http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_15436_100007008_100000000_100007000_100-7-8
  6. Rhino, I agree. The fish have been looking huge!! I just went out yesterday and a friend hit a nice 3-4lbs bass on a black nightcrawler. I think its best to slow it down in the winter to adapt to the laziness of the fish. Question tho...I have heard the fish come closer to the surface and to the sure during the cold months, but I have also heard they go deeper? Which, if either, is true? OR are we just over-thinking this because regardless of temp. fish like protect? What have you heard?
  7. I have been havin' the same sorta questions, but lately even with the temps fallin I have been havin good luck with regular nightcrawlers and lizards. I have used watermellon and pumpkin colored worms and just drag them slowly across the bottom, because the fish seem to get lazy when the temp. falls.
  8. Monster Fish Paul!! Congrats on the catch with the "secret." ;D
  9. Great lookin fish!! Love the second "action" shot! Looks like a great day of catchin'
  10. I am very close!! That sounds like an excellent idea!!
  11. Awesome!! Huge Fish! ;D What did you do with that sucker? Makin' it to your wall or what?
  12. Breaking the law is breaking the law, and there is no excuse...but... Maybe the guys just love to fish and have bass fever, growing up in the area I did, it was tough to find good ponds to fish, and if we ever did fish anything questionable we would always release, but when you love to fish and you see a nice little pond w/o any other sources of water it can be tempting ;D But, if you are familiar with the area, go talk to the guys and recommend some other spot to fish that you know is legal and try to keep the peace
  13. HA!! Catchin' fish yesterday, tryin' to get em today...thats the life!! It was in the low 40's today, and the only thing I have caught in the last two weeks was a small large-mouth on a pumkin colored zoom worm, and it literally hit less than two feet from the shoreline...other than that..notta!
  14. With temps. falling drastically, I have had mild success lately, but nothing to brag about. Got any stories of success or failure in the cold and still getting colder weather?
  15. I have always heard that natural is the best way to go with bass, but in my experience it really hasn't made a difference. The only thing I noticed is that the fish seem to strike more at natural colors if you are fishing an over-fished community pond/lake. I was recently at a new man-made lake that is rarely fished and the, mostly rock bass, were striking at anything I put in the water.
  16. Actually I just hit a nice size large mouth 3 days ago on the zoom pumpkin colored worm with a Carolina rig. I was impressed with this considering my buddy was using his crankbait all day with no luck at all. Also, the the temp. has been around 45-50 degrees, so it was a nice surprise to pull a decent bass on the worm.
  17. Thanks for the review T-Rig! It seems the biggest problem encountered was the fishes ability to strike at the tail of the lure without the angler being able to set the hook. I still have yet to try the thing out with temps. in the 40's :-/ but we'll see if I have any luck!
  18. Honestly crap ? Any reason?
  19. How Do. Just started today ourselves. Live just up the road (Hwy65) from Ya'lll. Spent a lot of growin years along the banks of the Ohio. Now live in Seymour, Indiana. Was down your way couple weeks ago, camping along banks of Elkhorn Creek at Elkhorn Creek campgrounds in Frankfort. Fish Elkhorn Creek from time to time. It is a perfect kayak enviroment for fishin. Son lives in Lexington Still call Louisville, Lou a vil. South of the river is where we feel right down home. I spend all my time in Lex., go to the Ville from time to time to visit friends, but I'm glad to hear your familiar with the area...Elkhorn fishing pretty decent? I did a lot of fishing on the Liking this year, none on the Ohio though. I have been looking into purchasing a Kayak, but I don't know if it would be worth it? Anyway, I have spent my entire life in KY and enjoy the fishing and wildlife throughout this whole state!
  20. I just caught a nice size large-mouth on a Carolina rigged brown worm, even with these falling temps.
  21. Thank you!!! I'm actually not exactly sure what the water temp. is, I just meant the weather in general because I have always heard fishing in the fall and spring is the best way to go even tho most of my time on the lake comes during the summer!
  22. I just purchased the new "limited edition" Flex Phantom from Strike Pro, for a pricy $14 I hope to see some results. I have heard some good things, and the action looks top-notch, but does anyone have any personal experience they can relay? I fish mainly small ponds and lakes here in KY...
  23. Beautiful Fish!! Congrats on the catch...
  24. Honestly, 1-2 sometimes 3 if I'm lucky. It seems I can only find time in the very early morning or late evening, lately its been pretty cold at these times :-/ ! Wish I could get out there more
  25. I have heard about a few different locations that are considered great spots for fishing here in central KY, but what have ya'll heard about it? Locations: Liking River Elkhorn Creek Herrington Lake Laurel River Lake Lake Cumberland Kentucky River Cave Run Lake
