  1. Sorry for the "wild goose chase"! I should have mentioned that's where I buy mine. Slide the weight up inside the tube to the top of the bait, leaving a slight gap between to the top of the tube and the weight. Then simply start you t-rig through the tube. The only difference is you put the hook through the hole in the weight to keep it from falling out. Let me know if this makes sense. I've found that when I fish this set up in the river, I hang up a lot less often.
  2. I typically use 4/0 EWG Gammy's for my Mizmo Bad Boy, Dry Creek Big Dog and BPS Magnum Flippin tubes. I haven't rigged mine with a bullet weight in a few years now after switching to the Yamamoto Snagfree Tube weights. I have no issues with hook ups using this rig.
  3. Thanks sprirobass! No, that's not at the stick ups, I was throwing the frog on one of the grass mats not open water.
  4. Well, I did make it out today. Hit Black hills first thing this morning and then a different spot this afternoon. The frog bite was ON again this morning! I caught 8 this morning in roughly an hours time and then things died about as fast as it started. Biggest 2 thing morning went 3lbs and 5lbs. The 5lbr measure 22 1/4 inches, happy b-day to me! Another citation! All the bass came on a Strike King KVD frog, Powell Diesel rod, 50lb Sufix braid spooled on an old Quantum Accurist. This afternoon was really slow. I hit the one spot I know off of Wynnfield road. I managed one dink on a Yum Dinger. Here are the pics of the 2 bigger bass from this morning's outing.
  5. Sprirobass, Haven't had a change to get to BH since the cool down. Plan on taking a "sick day" friday. Not sure if I'll hit there or somewhere else. Decisions decisions....... Where ever I go, I'll be sure to post a report. Basser714,happy anniversary. LOL! Gotta love those smallies! Congrats on your catch! What did you catch it on?
  6. Awesome Slyr! Good to hear ya got the pond back too!!!
  7. Good to see you're still hanging around Traveler! Ken, I've used that same technique several times with success. It's definitely a fun way to fish! I did fish the canal at Dickerson 2 weeks ago. While it was mostly covered with duckweed, it wasn't unfishable. I caught 8-9 that outing. Mostly on frogs and toads. Speaking of frogs........ I got out this morning for a while. Decided to head back to the stick ups. I hit the grass mat back around the corner and for 45 minutes or so, I had their number! I was throwing the Strike King KVD frog (stump jumper color). 2 were "cookie cutter" size, 1 went about 2lbs, another about 2 1/2lbs and "lunker" went 3-10. Around 9 the action pretty much die. Tried a few other things (sub-surface) but no takers. Might be able to get out tomorrow morning. Not sure where I want to hit yet. Brian kinda has me thinkin about smallies. Dang you Brian! LOL! Here's a pic of the big one from this morning.
  8. No, no, no! Wrong board Chris! Good to see you on the boards!
  9. Welcome to THE boards sprirobass! Lake Churchill is a private lake. I've walked around that lake before and there are signs all around stating no fishing. I do fish Black Hills on Wynnfield Road on occasion. If you fish the rip rap section, keep an eye out for snakes, they tend to hang out in the rocks. BMBass, My t-rig rod is a 7' MH power Fast action rod. For jerkbaits, I like a 6'6" MH power Fast action rod. I'll add, the jerkbait rod does have a softer tip to help to not pull the treble hooks out. I don't throw many jigs and very rarely swimbaits. Hopefully, other will chime in as well to help out.
  10. Good to see you're still around WV! I can relate on the weather not cooperating. BMBass, are you looking for multi-purpose rods or are you thinking more technique specific?
  11. Bill, maybe popper weather wasn't the right phrase, guess a better term would be conditions. I like to see a slight ripple on the water, no chop or smooth as grass, and low light or overcast typically. Hence the reasoning I took the poppers along yesterday. Lucked out and made it out at lunch again today. Decided to take the same gear I took yesterday, the worm rod for the tiki sticks and the top water rod for poppers. Decided to start with the popper and had one blow up on it but couldn't connect with it. Switched to the tiki sticks for a slower presentation but had no luck there. With a few minutes to go, switched back to the popper. On my very last cast, I hooked up with another on the end of a long cast but was able to stick that one. Nothing major but one in the 1 1/2lb range. I was using a 3 pop/pause cadence to trigger that one into hitting. Keep up the good work BMBass!
  12. Nice Bill! I tell you what, the popper is one of my least productive baits (I actually threw one today for a little while, LOL). I have them, I use them when I believe its "popper weather" and I just rarely get bit on them.
  13. Nice job BMBass! Couldn't pass up the weather conditions so hit Black Hills at lunch today. Managed a 2 pounder on a Tiki Stick back around the corner from the stick ups. Wish I would have had more time than just an hour but I'll take what I can get!
  14. Hi Colin, Welcome to THE boards! I'm not familiar with your waters but help us help you! What rod, reel, line and baits are you using? This will give us some idea on what you may be able to do to reach some of those bass. As for the snakeheads, while they haven't reached the waters I fish, I can tell you they'll hit practically anything from what I've read. Spinnerbaits seem to be a popular choice for them. Hopefully others can chime in as well to offer some more suggestions.
  15. J P, Tridelphia was one of the spots I've wanted to hit this year but it doesn't appear that's going to happen. BMBass, Nice catch! What set up are you using with the frogs? Sorry to hear about your loss Ken! Kevin I, That heat has been killer! Lipless cranks might not be the best in the backwash area right now. Grass is really coming up as you probably saw. I'd recommend top water, spinnerbaits and plastics in the backwash area right now. Great post Nate! I really miss Big Pool! I made it out saturday morning. Wanted something different than my usual spots at Black Hills so decided to give the canal at PEPCO a shot. Didn't do too bad, managed 7 with my biggest going 3-2 on the scale. Mine came on a Strike King Frog, Rage Tail Toads and Sweet Beavers. The best part of the outing was when I "shot" myself with a worm weight. LOL! I got stuck on a laydown and tried pulling it free. When it let go, that weight shot straight across the canal and nailed me in the thigh. Oddly enough, the bottom of the weight hit me square and instantly that spot was deep red but didn't puncture the skin! Now I have a 2" diameter bruise around the spot. LOL!
  16. That many? Wow!
  17. Hey BMBass, Welcome to THE boards! The backwash area is down by the boat ramp. Its the area on the other side of the road that you can't get a boat in. The "stick ups", as its come to be know as, is not that hard to find. Basically, if you park in the back parking lot between the playground and the volleyball court and walk back through the woods and make a right when the trail splits, you're looking right at it (minus the leaves. LOL). If you have any specific questions about those areas, let me know and I'll try and help out the best I can! On a separate note on Black Hills, after 6 years (if memory serves me right) of not stocking tiger muskies there, DNR has started the program again. Anyone else heard this or caught any of the fingerlings yet?
  18. I was able to hit the backwash area this morning for a few hours. Managed 3 and missed 2 others. 2 came on a Strike King buzzbait and the other came on a Strike King Frog. Biggest of the day was a 3-3 that came on the buzzbait.
  19. Obviously you're on your way up now Brian but safe travels and great fishing! Not sure how bad you guys got hit up in Washington county last evening with the storms but we got HAMMERED in Germantown! Curious to see how bad Black Hills looks. I was hoping to get out this weekend somewhere. My only limitation is getting the resume wrapped up before I do.
  20. Congrats on boat Kevin! Good to see you were able to get it out and break it in too!
  21. Was able to get out saturday morning for couple hours in the rain. With the limited time I had, decided to just hit the stick ups which paid off. Only managed 2 but both were on the Powell Diesel rod I picked up a while back so finally broke in that rod. I was throwing a Strike King KVD frog in pumpkin/orange throat. Definitely made the right call on the color cause both bass (one about a pound, second MAYBE 2 pounds) inhaled it. Anyone else make it out over the weekend?
  22. Welcome to THE boards Greg! As always, great post Kevin! Glad to see you didn't get sunk Bill! How bad was the boating traffic when you were there? Got to sneak out for a late lunch outing today at Black Hills. Only had a little time so just hit the backwash area. Wasn't expecting much with the heat and the water clarity (very stained). Didn't get a temp but with the color of the water, I'd tend to think it was cookin. Started off trying to break in my new Diesel rod but no takers there. Switched up to some soft plastics but had issues with stumps eating my bait so went to my third rod. LOL! I had a buzzbait tied on and was running a little low on time so figured, what the heck. Turned out to be the trick. Managed a keeper and on my very last cast I caught a 4-1 on my scale. She measured 20.5 inches and put up a great fight (even went airborne on me). I did manage to snap a pic before I let her go.
  23. Nice work Slyr! Glad to see you 2 were able to get out! Congrats to the "little man"! How did you know I'd ask where you went? LOL! Hopefully, I'll get out sometime soon.
  24. Welcome to THE boards Sean! If memory is right, that makes 3 of us on here now. And 2 of us in Germantown. LOL!
  25. Welcome to THE boards Sean! A lot of the guys on this thread seem to be from frederick, washington and montgomery county locations but the intent of me starting this thread was to give everyone from MD a place to go to meet, ask questions about our local waters and share our experiences. Definitely come back often! The more the merrier!
