  1. I follow Butch Brown on Facebook and it seems he has a huge following of folks throwing really high end($$$) DEPS swimbaits. Ive seen countless pics and videos posted of people posing with GIANT Bass. Watching the videos of the action the bait gives off, kinda makes me say "MEH?" Its obvious these do work but what about them is so appealing to the fish? For what ive seen, $150+ for a swimbait is worth it to catch the trophies these guys are hauling in. I personally wont spend that kind of coin...I doubt the fishery here has any fish the size ive seen hauled in by others using these swimbaits.
  2. Anyone seen these...look alot like Chigger Craws (legs) but have some paddle tail claws like other YUM baits...no scent...no salt...hmmm think ill pass until they hit the clearance racks...
  3. I noticed the new packaging at a local Walmart. First impression was that the packaging doesnt tell you what bait it is on some (chigger craw) but the packaging does give you a recommendation for hook size...which I thought was cool.
  4. I picked up a Custom Painted Trout Pattern Savage Gear swim n jerk in a 5-1/4 inch model recently on Ebay. I took it to a lake out of town yesterday...im running it with a 7:0 KVD Burner Reel,14# Bass Pro Mono, on a MH 7'6" Fenwick Fenglass rod. Feels REALLY good. A whole bunch of action from the bait with the slightest movement of the rod or turn of the reel handle. It produces a REAL nice S shape upon retrieval. Its a slow sinking model and I noticed it created a real nice wake as it came closer to the bank...id like to buy more but the only ones I can find on Ebay anymore are the soft models...im pretty amped about throwing this when I finally get out on the water...
  5. As the baitball crank goes by, does the fish see the baitball or a blur? Think those custom osinted , realistic lure look like the real thing to a fish as it goes by...I highly doubt it. I think the fish react to vibration, action and profile of the bait...they see something fleeing and they chase after it. My Chocolate Lab has been trained to catch items in midair when you toss it...he doesnt know if its a kibble of food, a twig, a plastic bottle cap, a treat, a potato chip..he just catches it in his mouth regardless of what it is...but he can immediately tell if its edible or not...think fish are similar...
  6. This is a Savage Gear 4play swim and jerk (5 inch) Its custom painted and didnt come with hooks...ive done research and found out it comes with #4 trebles from the factory. Ive got some assorted trebles but dont know the size...do the hooks im using in the pick appear correctly or are they too small?
  7. Well thats the issue dont really know how the trailer comes off...the piece of mono goes from the jighead over the hook and into the trailer. From there im not sure how the mono is attached.id likely have to destroy the trailer if I took it off. Until I know ecactly who makes these and whether or not they are still available...im not sure I wanna take it apart...
  8. Recently picked these up at a yard sale. They dont have a traditional weed guard...its a piece of heavy mono. The craw trailer has some skirt strands threaded through the nose of the craw trailer, im guessing tobgive the impression of antennae. These seem to be vintage...anyone know anything about these?
  9. So Ive read where people absolutely swear by a Spider Grub/jig over a traditional Jig n Trailer... Im gonna open this for debate...which is better and why? In which situations/conditions does one shine(prove more effective) over the other?
  10. Picked up a mixed lot of Spinnerbaits on Ebay recently. They arrived today. Included was this Monster 1oz Single Willow or Colorado bladed (interchangeable, came with 2 blades) spinnerbait. The blades look freakishly huge to what im used to. Guessing this is a deepwater bait? What gear ratio reel and power rod would be necessary to turn that Colorado blade? Ive seen early SK spinnerbaits with red plastic "Grass Bells" on them for weeds...this one pictured has a metal grass bell...
  11. Ive got an Endura 50 TM on my Jon boat...wanting to get a replacement prop...anyone have a good part number? Pictured is the current prop im using
  12. The only tackle shop locally is Walmart...might have to try Tucson when im up there next
  13. ...I cant think of a single place within 160 miles that specializes in that.To think of it between where I live and Bass Pro in Tempe theres only 4 bonafide tackle shops.Doubt if anyone does it.Does anyone know of anybody in Arizona that dors rod repair?
  14. Ive got a Fenwick Eagle rod I picked up at a yard sale for a song ($9). Once I got it home I noticed that an eye on the rod had a broken support. Is this something thats repairable or replaceable? Its a really nice rod and id like to salvage it if possible.
  15. If you cant find parasite clips, a normal barrel swivel will work.
  16. So what about the bottles ive picked up?They still have the brine solution but theres a brown gooey gel inside the jar as well. What might that gel stuff be and will it hinder the pork? The pork is still soft but im wondering if maybe its breaking down.
  17. Ive got a 6'9" Shimano Sellus Jig/worm rod...sounds like it might work???
  18. So hows this??
  19. So ive been reading about swim jigs...ive read they can be used with a hollow belly swimbait as a trailer and fished with a chuck and wind retrieve (like a spinnerbait) However...its NOT a spinnerbait, its a swim "JIG"...maybe im overthinking things but what rod is best suited for this application...a spinnerbait rod or a jig/worm rod...??
  20. Suppose a Grub would work as a trailer? Ive read so many people talking about specifically using a #11 pork frog trailer...whats so special about it? I like how its a hinged spinner...so what part of the year would produce best using "Sally?"
  21. Ive got some Timberdoodles and Jaw Breaker spoons too...
  22. The dang heavy matted stuff drives me nuts as it fouls up the prop on my TM when the wind blows my Jon Boat and leaves me basically stuck...Instead of letting it bother me, think ill embrace it and throw "Sally" right into it. Guess theres one way to find out how Truly snagless ol Sally is.
  23. I recently came across some vintage models. A few with a gold plated blade and hardware and a few with a Chrome blade and hardware. How far back does this particular bait go? Anyone ever use it in the past...ive heard these are fish catching machine under the right conditions How effective are these in deeper water Do they "Helicopter" well and is it common to get bit on the fall? How versatile are these, though they have a blade, can they be hopped and swam on the bottom like a jig? Just how weedless are these? Lastly, I know its a personal preference, but on this particular bait, for those that fish them, I gotta ask the question: Soft plastic or pork trailer OR just the skirt with a trailer hook.
