  1. On a crankbait it doesn't seem like FC could make a difference. If you throw a crank on FC, It generally lands in the water and if you don't crank while your picking out your birds nest, the bait just sits there and "bobs"(all buoyant like) The FC doesn't make the bait sit any deeper.Youd think that Mono would actually get a crankbait deeper because of line stretch. FC doesn't stretch so the bait can't stretch the line longer to make the bait go deeper...
  2. Ya know...i never thought about the whole sinking thing on CB's. How can it cause a crank to dive deeper when most cranks float...
  3. Ok so from the sounds of it...inserts in Tungsten isn't a bad thing. I've lost entire Carolina rigs when throwing Tungsten without inserts...i always forget to check my line...
  4. Found a bag of tackle at a local Thrift store. In the bag were some Tungsten egg Weights with inserts. What if anything is the difference between weights with inserts vs without inserts?
  5. How much of a difference does FC make over Mono when cranking? How much depth is actually gained when throwing a CB on FC? I'm currently respooling my cranking outfit and am thinking of switching back to mono as a way of saving money. Will I notice THAT much of a difference?
  6. What's everyone's opinion on the best/strongest/easiest to tie loop knot for aiding topwater baits in "walking" The only one i know of is the Rapala knot...what are the thoughts on it?
  7. Water is way down in the lake I fish, so the Milfoil is way up. I wanted to attempt throwing a weedless Spoon like a Jawbreaker or Bomber Who Dat spoon in the weedy stuff. Question is, I know these type spoons, similar to a Johnson Silver Minnow, can cause line twist. Should a swivel be used to fight line twist or should I tie straight to the bait to keep the correct action?
  8. Typically after how long without a fish while cranking does everyone retie? I've gone out recently and thrown a crankbait for the majority of my time on the water.Havent caught anything and eventually ended up launching the crank across the lake after breaking off on the cast(at least twice) So how often should I retie? I haven't been running into any kind of cover or structure, with the exception of pulling up Milfoil from time to time.
  9. Weedguard is trimmed and the hook is already canted up slightly.Whoever owned this jig previously knew what they were doing. As far as the skirt is concerned, I grabbed as many colors as I could blend together to make kinda a Green Sunfish/Bluegill look. There's strands of Amber/Black, Orange, Chartruese, red, and baby bass. Kinda a hodge podge of colors but I think they blend together well.
  10. Found the Jig head in a tackle box I recently purchased. Had some old partial skirts laying around and tied em on.Tipped it with a Money Minnow with the tail dipped in JJ's. I know the only way I'll know if it's effective is to throw it, but before I do is there anything I should alter on it?
  11. So Wednesday was my first day on the lake this year. I'm kinda rusty so getting back into it is gonna take a few trips.Hadnt got bit all day. Caught a small Bass on a Rapala UL a few hours into my trip. Time passed without anything and I decided to give a Shad Patterned DT6 a try by some bluff walls. I whacked a Green Sunfish on my first cast and a Largemouth on the next cast. For some reason this particular bait in this exact color ALWAYS saves the day for me. I can't figure it out. I don't know if it's the color, the action or what but this isn't the first trip this has happened. I threw all sorts of things this day but this crank turned a lame day into something for me. Back to back hook ups are welcome anyday...especially on my first day out. There isn't even a Shad population in this lake so I don't know what's up with that
  12. The link above the video has a tutorial but I can't visualize it.
  13. Can't really say I do have the same feelings about other aspects in life.
  14. Can anyone clarify how this rig is tied. I'm just not understanding how it comes together...seems really cool... http://blog.okumafishing.com/2012/10/amazing-sand-eel-slug-twin-rig/
  15. The spinnerbaits I've tried are 1/4 and 3/8 oz.The reel is spooled with 14# test mono
  16. As far as "Falling properly" I have trouble with the Senkos not falling vertically as well as I'd like. Wind catches the line and creates that bow in it, which carries it away from the target. It's also tough being a line watcher in the wind.Ive caught using a Senkos in the wind, but most of the time it's been accidental at best. Never felt the take, and noticed the fish was there on the the retrieve for another cast...swallowed the hook every time.
  17. Thanks for the replies. Think I'm gonna narrow it down to throwing a Drop shot(I've always enjoyed this), T-rig/jig, Crankbait and Spinnerbait.Half the combos I took out yesterday with me were untouched so I know those can be left at home. What I'd REALLY like to throw is Senkos, but it's so darned windy at this lake I can't get them to fall appropriately...wind catches my line and makes a huge bow in it...
  18. So I've gotten into a very overwhelming situation. It's screwing me mentally and I don't know what to do. I buy tackle...Lots and lots of tackle. I wanna try this technique or that technique so I stock up. I have a 12' Jon boat and I carry at least 12 rod/reel combos with me. I get on the water and I don't know where to start. I'm always concerned that I'm throwing the wrong stuff. If I'm not getting bit, I'm always changing up. If it just doesn't feel right, I just can't spend much time on it. How can I get back to basics and start to relearn things so I have confidence again. Yesterday was the first time out this year because I've been struggling mentally on how to approach things.Fishing isn't so much fun for me anymore, I just lose confidence too quickly. I spent all day yesterday from 11am to about 6pm trying to figure things out and only boated 3 dink fish with no other bites. 1 was on a Rapala Ultralight Shad, and 2 came on a Rapala DT6 in a Shad pattern (1 of those fish was a Green Sunfish) To spend that much time and only boat 3 dink fish is very disheartening...however I did what I set out to do...catch "fish"...so I'm ok with that...means I was doing "something" right.
  19. The rod im using is a Daiwa Triforce-Z TF-Z 601MHRB-B 6' Med/Hvy 10-20lb 1Pc Wonder if I just need to slow down my cranking speed because of the ratio of the reel.
  20. Picked up some spinshot hooks for $1.00 a pack.Cleaned em out
  21. I recently purchased a used KVD Burner Baitcasting reel. Its got a 7.0:1 ratio. Without anything tied to it, it's very smooth. It casts VERY A nicely as well. I'm using it on a 6 ft MH rod for my spinnerbaits. The problem I'm having is with the general feeling of resistance on the retrieve with my spinnerbaits. I have tried a KVD Double Willow Razor Blade Spinnerbait and it was tiring to retrieve this bait. Thinking the issue was with the blades, I tried a Colorado/Willow leaf combo spinnerbait with a hammered finish on the blades and got the same result. I've thrown spinnerbaits on other rod/reel combos and have never experienced this resistance issue before. Is it the gear ratio(7.0:1) I'm not used to or what...
  22. So Savage Gear has made it onto the U.S. market. Ive wstched vids from overseas where the baits are catching great size Musky, Pike, Yellow Perch and Zander. Anyone use any of the Savage Gear products? How well do they hold up and are thier designs fish catchers or just Something to catch Anglers? Ive got a few of thier products, im pretty optomistic on thier Swim and Jerk, however I havent tried it out yet...heck I havent even been on the water really at all this year.
  23. Ive never focused exclusively on throwing swimbaits, and when I speak of them, im talking about larger baits (6" and up, weighing 1oz or more requiring special equipment). Is there some sort of right of passage (Fraternity) you attain/enter into when you stick a Fish on a large swimbait as mentioned above? Id imagine so, as its likely when you stick a fish on a larger swimbait, its likely to be a toad...and most people just wont put forth the efgort to dedicate themselves to throwing a swimbait exclusively. What are everyones thoughts on this?
  24. Cant find these on the MATTLURES website. Picked these up on Ebay recently.Just wanted to get some info on these like ROF and if necessary, where can I get more? The tail design looks and fels like they would really kick like crazy.
