  3. Look into the Fenwick River runner as well. Some retailers run deals on them every now and then putting them around the $85 mark. I've owned a couple and they are a great value. Good luck
  4. I wouldn't mind a single 24v trolling motor and 2 batts if I could sell the out board. Before I go any further, what could I expect to get for the 9.9 if I were to sell? I checked the Craiglist and prices seem to be all over the place. The canals down here often have higher banks so being blown around isn't too much of an issue. Maybe if I launch near a flood gate that's open but the current wouldn't be too strong anyways. There is a lake near the air port (blue lagoon) that I might launch at once I get a feel for the boat. I should be able to cover the entire thing without issue with just a TM.
  5. So this is what I'm working with. It is a 1436 and not a 32. No wires ran or anything. The motor is pretty clean and I have a buddy who's OK with small outboards so I could always have him help me out if needed. I just want something with as little maintenance as possible which is why I recently picked up a kayak but I couldn't turn this down. I know I'll have to maintain the trailer wheels/bearings but I could manage that. The not pictured trolling motor is a bps prowler 30lb I think. It does look rough but I was told it works. As for the battery, I don't really have a covered area that I could leave it outside to charge. Just a small overhang on the back porch. Could I charge it a little at a time or do marine batts need to be on the charger until 100%? Any reason to go with a Walmart Everstart over an Optima blue top? Optima yellow tops were the bees knees when I was into car audio. Do I need a battery box and circuit breaker? I apologize for the barrage or questions lol.
  6. So I got a new tracker 1436 for the low price of.... Free. Only had to pay the transfer and tag. It's pretty new with some scuffs, ancient trolling motor and a relatively new 9.9 4 stroke. Also came with rod holders, seats and trailer. So now I'm in the predicament of weather or not I sell the 9.9 and get a big new trolling motor (50lb?) or keep it as it. This will only be used in the local canals for fishing so hauling butt isn't a priority for me. It would mostly be myself taking it out but my wife and daughter may tag along. Total weight around 400lb. I have very little knowledge of small motors and don't want to deal with maintenance, gas, etc... Can anyone who had an electric only non shed some light? Also, aside from a new battery to go with the motor, what else would I need? Curcuit breaker or fusing? Battery box? What kind of battery charger should I be looking at that would break the bank? And this last one may be a dumb question but I need to ask anyways. Could a marine battery be charged inside a house, like a spare room? I know some are spill proof and apparently don't put off any gases but I don't know. Thanks in advance!
  7. What about having the kayak right side up on top of some foam blocks or pool noodles? This seems to me to be the best option but I could be terribly wrong....
  8. So I caved in and picked up a Pelican stinger from DSG with their 50% off sale. Couldn't argue the price to get me off the bank. Right now I have it upside down on some 2x4s I turned into tiny saw horses supporting the cockpit area. Is this ok short and long term? Thanks!

Naples got it pretty bad and lost power. We got back to Miami this afternoon and was greeted with power and internet. Showers never felt so good!

I vaguely remember Andrew and do not look forward to this one. We got out of Miami yesterday morning just before they ordered the evacuation. It's nuts out there. We are in Naples now and hopefully we will be OK here but we do have back up plans if need be. Stay safe everyone.
  11. I've used a few 2 piece casting and spinning rods. Of the bunch within your price range, Fenwick was my favorite. St Croix premiere was nice but heavy. Abu's 2 pieces are like broom sticks. XIII rods fish at their price point. Nothing special. Good cs. Back when Shimano had a lifetime warranty I tired their Clarus and Compre rods and really liked those. Good luck with your decision.
  12. Almost lost an arrowana because of that reel seat. Best value rod I've ever owned though. I used a small piece of heat shrink tube on the reel foot. Easy on easy off. And cheap too.
  13. I use braid with 4lb floroclear leader for my UL rig and love it.
  14. I have the 7' ml/f avid x spinning rod and its my go-to. I do get some line slap with a 1000 size Shimano with braid but it's not bad. Best rod I've owned in its price range. Can't comment on the regular avid.
  15. If I have to 'maintain' a brand new out of the box reel, it's going back in the box for an exchange. At most, you could remove excess grease the company puts in there but the reel should still perform without doing so.
  16. I used to be all about the green/moss colors but the bright yellow helps tremendously with line watching. I always use leaders.
  17. PowerPro in yellow for me.
  18. Fast action would be a better all around UL rod. The blank will be very flexible compared to a heavier traditional bass fishing rod and may take some getting used to if you haven't fished one before. Personally, I love fishing light and ultralight powered rods and have caught panfish, cichlids, bass and peacocks using tiny baits. It's such a rush but you do need to pick your battles carefully. You don't want to be throwing tiny jigs next to downed trees, pads, thick grass etc. As soon as you hook up, fish will go to the nearest cover and will more than likely break off. I currently use a Fenwick river runner 5'8 fast action with a 1000 size stradic fk with plans to swap it for a 500 size reel. Id post pics from my IG of my recent UL catches but haven't figured how to do it yet....
  19. So I picked one of these up from ebay at a good price just because. I'm looking to replace the plastic drag star. I know the curado 200e star will fit but I will need the nut, click plate and pin. Are there any drag stars that will work without the additional parts needed? Thanks!
  20. For the most part, I use my oldest shoes I have to fish in. Eventually they get nasty and then tossed. I do wear Reef sandals at some of my more maintained/residential spots during the cooler months when the snakes and other critters aren't out as much.
  21. 5'8 Fenwick river runner ul/f Stradic 1000fk 15/4 power pro with 4lb Floroclear leader.
  22. Another pea from today that crushed a pins minnow on the UL.
  23. My m&p9c and ar pistol.
