  1. Whatever happened to Fish Fishburn? His show was the only one that I watch consistently! That guy was always entertaining!...I don't know how much knowledge he imparted though. I have to apologize to 90% of you guys, but I never liked Al Linder...nothing personal, but he didn't fish for bass often enough and a lot of the fish that he did fish for, like walleye, salmon, musky etc aren't found anywhere near my neck of the woods so I had no interest in watching him. ...So I couldn't vote
  2. You need to contact one of our sponsors for help: http://www.pondboss.com/ 8-) I love fishing in strip ponds! Lots of good obvious points to fish. I too suggest taking a look at the pondboss website, I've looked through some of their materials before and they provide some really great insight.
  3. Well said...or excellent selection of quotes! My day job is in taking knowledge and turning it into wisdom for my clients, when it comes to fishing I do the same thing...because we all all know that 10 years of experience does not necessarily equate to 10 years of knowledge or any wisdom, it might only equate to 2 years of experience repeated 5 times over...as I've seen with so many much older people that I've worked with. My point is wisdom in bass fishing often teaches patience and always provides confidence to the locations and techniques that you fish...there is no reason short of bass not being in a lake to not catch any fish...unless of course your tackle box is as light as mine lol.
  4. This reminds me of an old lure that I'm certain isn't made anymore. It was a crank bait with a cage like middle that let you put chum or live bait in. In regard to holding bass by the lip...when they get over 10 lbs use a glove otherwise those little bumps/teeth/?? on their lips will tear your hand up!
  5. If you don't see any bass walking the shoreline, look for bass forage, mostly minnows or crawfish (holes) (I'm not sure if crawfish are present in colder climates...that is Crayfish for you northerners lol). I've found when fishing small ponds especially really small ponds to use the quietest slowest baits first and work your way up to the louder more actively fished baits. Pond bass may be spooked by buzz baits, rat-l traps, or other similarly loud and unusual type lures.
  6. This year has been an especially slow year! What it comes down to is I need a new fishing buddy! No Boat, gear is old and un-kept, work too often extends into Saturday and Sunday, and the saltwater fishing has been soooooo good!!....Okay okay I don't even deserve to post on this site, I haven't been bass fishing this year! Oh the humanity! In year's past I usually pull in 800-950 a year, most trips I catch over 15 bass, not terribly good quality, less than 5lbs ...and always catch and release!
  7. It's been said before but I'll repeat it again. Sponsorship should only be sought after you've won a few tournaments or can prove you've got the skills, knowledge, and ability to out-fish your competitors. So find, fish, and win as many local and regional tournaments as you can find. That said, a lot of bass Pros have day jobs that allow the pro a flexible work schedule and weekends off. Good Luck
  8. Forkman is right on the money with this one except I'd add a glass bead and a brass bullet weight to the texas rig, it'll add a little clicking sound to help the bass find the lure in the dark. I also use this method in the really muddy waters that I fish. Also, you will have better luck when the moon is full, the bass will be more active and more likely to strike at a topwater bait, but still use dark colors.
  9. Most of the waters I fish have thick grass or no grass, but the sky is too often sunny. Try to find additional structures visible through the thick grass such as stumps, logs, brush, or humps and pitch a jig or weightless worm to these structures. This works especially well if these structures create pockets clear of the thick grass.
  10. It sounds like you've had some Katrina like flooding in your area. Down here in New Orleans after Katrina the fish were so shaken up we needed to try an entirely different lure presentation, often slower than usual. You might want to try Texas rigging a worm and working it deep. Try enhancing your lure with some smelly jelly or other fish attractant. I've always enjoyed fishing quarry lakes, the steep sides allow for a lot of unique lure presentations that I don't often get to use in Southern Louisiana.
  11. My favorite cold front lure is the jig and pig. Cast it beyond the structure you are fishing and work it back slowly. You will want to get the lure as close to the structure as possible because the fish will be holding tight on the side with less current. Look for bottom structure such as rock piles, points, stumps, and drop offs.
