  1. Me and my buddy do pretty good from the kayaks. Buy a boat unrigged, and put some hours in it, bare bones. Then you will get a feel of where you want your accessories and then you can rig. Here is a couple of me fishing from my boat unrigged, just a couple weeks after I bought it After some rigging My buddies rigged boat
  2. Im not sure what Im doing wrong, but I cant get the side plates off a Pinnicle Platinum Plus and a Pfluger Echelon. I know these are both lower end reels, are the side plates not meant to be removed? I have taken out all the screws and the nut on the reel handle along with the drag knob and everything else. Not sure whats up. I'd appreciate any help.
  3. Didn't really have any dedicated freshwater stuff, so I picked up a Pinnacle Platinum Plus. I'm using it for jigs and weighted T rigs. Spooled it up with 14lb Floro, caught a couple on the first trip. It casts good, and pulled a couple 2-3 lb'ers out of the brush easily. I only paid like 45$ for it, if I can get a season out of it, I'll be happy.
  4. Is fast/mh what most "spinnerbait rods are? Looking through BPS catalog, thats what alot of the specific technique rods are, as best I can tell. Is that a good choice for a dedicated spinnerbait rod?
  5. I was thinking about ordering one of the Revo's, and since I was planning on buying a pair of good glasses this year, why not go ahead and do it. It looks like a steal to me. I did have a couple questions though. How long did it take to get the glasses? How do you like Wiley X glasses in general? How do they compare to Costa's? Thanks for any info, I appreciate it.
  6. Getting ready to order some crankbaits. I fish ponds, ranging from 8'max to 20-30' max. Water colors range from crystal clear, stained black thats clear, and a couple muddy ponds. Im not sure what colors to get, so I was thinking about getting 2 colors of each model I order. A natural color for the clearer ponds, and some sort of chartruse variation for the muddier and stained ponds. So Ill order one natural and one bright color for shallow, medium, and deep diver. Does this make any sense, or am I way off? And my other question, I am looking at Norman and Strike King. Are these brands good ones to buy? Thanks for any info.
  7. I hate Carolina rigs. On the other hand, T rigs have caught most all my big bass, and I fish them well and enjoy it. Another one I havnt caught on is a spinnerbait, but just because I havnt put in the time. This summer Im going to put some effort into it.
  8. What applications do you choose spinning gear over baitcasting? For me, I like spinning gear for t rigs and spinnerbaits. I actually prefer it over baitcasting. The only time I would choose baitcasting gear for these 2 applications would be for flipping t rigs in slop, and if I had to make really long dead accurate casts. Other than that, I really like the feel of working a spinnerbait and plastics with spinning gear. It just feels "right". What methods do you prefer spinning gear for and why?
  9. Since the Classic, I see why I cant catch fish. I have never used a Red Eye Shad, and since I just ordered 5 of every color, I can now enjoy success! : Jking. But I do have a serious question. I have never used a Strike King Red Eye Shad, so Im not sure exactly what it is. It it Strike Kings version of a Rattle Trap, or is a lipless crankbait something different that a Rattle Trap? Thanks.
  10. Thanks fo the replies. Since then we have gone back 4-5 times, all in 30-40 degree air temps, and have caught probalby 8 bass in the exact same area. What ever it is, I like it ;D
  11. I have a 6'6" St Croix with a 2500 size reel I want to use for weightless plastics, or up to 1/8oz weight, no more. I went to the store to get some braid, but all they had was this stuff called P Line Original PF. Ive never used it before. I got 8Lb. Will that work OK for what I want?
  12. Me and a buddy have gone out in the last couple days, fishing a small 7 acre or so size pond. The middle areas are 8-15 ft deep, the banks are gentle slopes. Its literally been snowing and freezing for 3 weeks, and Friday past was the first decent day we've had. It was mid 30's and sunny. The water temp was 32-35. Anyway, we fished the deep sunny spots, no hits. The shallow sunny spots, no hits. Then he casts up by the bank under some trees, 1-3' of water, in an area that never gets any direct sunlight, and gets a hit. At the end of the day, he ended up with 2 LMB, in the 1-2 lb range, and several good hits. We went out again today, fished all the sunny deep and shallow spots, no fish, just 2 bites. We go to the same shallow cold shady spot, I caught 2, lost one, and had quite a few bites. He hooked and lost 2, landed one, and had quite a few bites. Whats up with the bass being bunched up in 1-3' of water, in the shadiest coldest part of the pond? The air temps today were low 30's, and the pond had some skims of ice floating in it, so the water temps were once again, right around freezing. There are no warm water discharges, or any kind of moving water in the pond. Its been a fun way to start the season. Not slammin em, but for icy Feb water, its not bad.
  13. Looking for a cheap baitcaster. Ill be fishing a fairly deep pond this year, 20-30 ft deep, with huge grass beds. Anyway, Id like to get a reel for casting Rattle Traps, cranks, and spoons. I was wondering what I could expect from the Abu Blackmax or Daiwa Strike Force? Both are 50$ reels. You all think I could get a long spring and summer out of one, fishing 3 times a week or so?
  14. Is there any disadvantage of a 2 piece rod? They are more convenient if you have to package them, or if you have to transport them in a car, but are they weaker than a 1 piece? What are the cons of a 2 piece rod?
  15. I have a cheaper St Croix Triumph FRESHWATER spinning rod I'd like to use for casting light spoons and jigs for specks and reds, but am afraid the guides will rust out? Will a hose spray down or WD 40 spray down after use prevent this, or will the rust out no matter what? This is the one Ive got: * Premium-quality SCII graphite. * Outstanding strength, sensitivity and hook-setting power. * Finely tuned actions and tapers for superior performance. * Hard aluminum-oxide guides with black frames. * Fuji® DPS reel seat/frosted silver hoods on spinning models. * Fuji® ECS or TCS reel seat/frosted silver hood on casting models. * Premium-grade cork handle. * Two coats of Flex Coat slow-cure finish. * 5-year warranty backed by St. Croix Superstar Service. * Designed in Park Falls and handcrafted in Fresnillo, Mexico.
