  1. How often does Shimano have rebates on there products, like if you spend this X amount you get this? I was doing a search and it looks like the last one was in 2008.
  2. hey guys and gals i just received my Revo STX reel in tonight and i must say, it sure is purdy!!! ANYWAYS, prior to my new set up, i had the extreme baitcaster and extreme rod combo. i am trying to find the weight difference between the two set ups. the REVO STX weighs 8.92oz and the extreme weighs 8.6oz i have looked at the BPS catalog and there online web site and cannot find the weight for the extreme rod XTR66MHT as well as the Shimano rod that i have now which is CRC66MH why do they list reel weight but not rod? does anyone know where i can obtain this information? i just want this for my own knowledge.
  3. using the gill....................this wont effect the fish's mouth at all will it? how fragile is the gill area?
  4. Hey guys i have seen a number of digital scales for weighing fish. to be more specific, i have seen the digital rapalas that come with a hook at the end and i have also seen the rapala scales taht have a clamp at the end that is controlled by the handle. 1. is one more accurate than the other? 2. what is the best way to attach the fish to the hook scale? through the gill or do you guys actually go back through the lip? 3. on the claw scale, do you clamp that down on the lip as well? trying to figure out which one is best to use and the most accurate. any help would be appreciated
  5. the mods can close this thread. i went ahead and purchased a 2010 model off ebay. should be arriving shortly!! thanks for your help
  6. one other thing, does anyone know if you can claim the Abu Garcia wiley-x promotion with a reel purchased off ebay??
  7. thanks revo_carrot stix. it is a nice chunk of change. this seller has 23k + feedback. he seems legit anyways. just afraid of losing all my cash :-/
  8. thanks koulaid, i went to there site but i dont see any Revo STX. can you post a link where you see this?
  9. well, now that i know the difference, im seeing a 2010 on ebay for 175, free shipping
  10. ah ha, thank you!! i see the difference. i did see some on ebay but im nervous about the whole warranty part of it. has anyone bought a new stx on ebay and had the warranty honored when needing it fixed or whatever?
  11. thanks for the feedback. heres my question. how do you know a 2009 model from a 2010? I was going to buy this reel at the BPS classic but if i could save some change then i could spend that on some lures. on page 84 of the master catalog, they show the revo stx, but i have no clue whether its an 09 or 2010
  12. Hey all, i came across a website which is selling the Revo STX baitcaster for $169.99, free shipping. has anyone ever ordered from this site? i could save a good chunk of change going this route compared to buying it at BPS. If i were to order from this site, is there anything that i should ask them before placing my order? like warranties or anything like that? i would like to order this tomorrow if i could get a quick response. I do have there number and was going to call the order in rather than doing it online. that way i would speak to someone directly. heres the site: http://nebassfishing.com/pro1075305.html
  13. so will they carry over the registration for the time its good through? or does it start all over when you register it?
  14. This should be a rather quick answered question. BUT, i have never owned a boat before and have been searching on craigslist for a fishing boat and i have seen a lot of people saying "registered till 2012". isnt a boat like a car where as soon as you get it you have to register it in your name then its good for a year? what good is it for someone to say its registered through 2012? OR if its registered through 2012, you dont have to register it till then? how does that work? :-[
  15. i guess i'll learn to not second guess myself and go with my gut feeling. thanks for the input everyone!!
  16. Hey guys i was at my local BPS yesterday and decided to stop in and wander around the store for a bit. i have plans of going there for the BPS classic at the end of the month to pick up a Revo STX and a complimenting rod to go with it. I have my eyes on a Shimano Crucial to go along with the STX. i decided to hold the STX in my hand to see how it felt and compare it to my existing reel that this is replacing. now just to make small talk with the guy, i was telling him how i was going to get teh crucial and he mentioned two other rods that would be "better" than the crucial as well as cheaper. so i listened and he directed me to the Abu Garcia Vendetta rod as well as the Rick Clunn RCX rod. now, i held each rod in my hand and as light as both feel, i wasnt sold. the Abu Garcia was very light and i liked the colors but the rod handle seemed very empty. i am used to the cork handles, it just seemed like the support was missing. Plus teh eye closest to the location the reel would be was HUGE, whats the reason for a HUGE eye on the rod? has anyone ever used a rod without the cork/foam handle? anyone ever use theh AG Vendetta and compared it to a Crucial to justify what this guy was telling me? i was going to buy the crucial and dont mind spending the $150 for it as plaaned. but if there is something cheaper and BETTER, let me know. i went to tackletour.com to read the review but it didnt have a "rating" to compare it to a crucial. any advice would be appreciated.
  17. hey all i have a few questions about buying used bass boats or even boats in general for that matter. i am in hopes of buying a little bass boat sometime this year. doesnt have to be all decked out with bells and whistles but rather just an aluminum boat with an outboard motor on it. now, there have been numerous of times that i have been fishing at a boat dock and no matter how old/new a boat looks the owner is always fising it to get it running. this worries me a little. 1. is it wise to buy a used boat? i have heard other people say that its called "used" for a reason. dont take on someone elses headache. are boat motors that high maintenance that you constantly have to be fixing them every time you wanna go out? 2. off topic boat question, is it mandatory to have boat insurance like you do on your vehicle? other than registering it, do you have to do anything else?
  18. this is for anyone that subscribes to Netflix. I have noticed that Netflix has a few fishing instructional dvd's. Has anyone viewed these? if so, were they good or bad, worth watching?
  19. Hey all heres another question for ya. Right now, Abu Garcia is having a promotion to where if you buy any Abu Garcia Reel over $159.95, you can send in a rebate form for a pair of free Wiley X sunglasses. (Promotion Date 11-1-09 through 9-7-10 They give you the option of P-17 or ZAK has anyone ever bought these models of sunglasses or has anyone turned in the rebate form and received these glasses? reviews on them? which one did you get?
  20. Hello all I wasnt sure where to place this thread so i threw it in general..............BUT i came across this website earlier and wanted to know if anyone could say whether this site is for real or not. I read the Q and A section and it all seems legit. There is a phone number/contact information for customer support. here is the link, please let me know what you think. id like to make sure im not going to get screwed if and when i place an order. i really like the prices though www.lakesidereels.com
  21. please correct me if im wrong BUT......................... i noticed that the Curado E7 has 7 bearings. the higher the bearing count the better, right? I noticed that some reels have 7-11 bearings. shouldnt someone go for the most bearings? would it make that much of a difference?
  22. good point ksbasser. as i mentioned before i am still a newbie to fishing and the extreme reel that i currently have has never had any issues so i never had to have it serviced. i didnt realize that some places quit carrying parts for the older reels. that would be a huge problem!! so, with that, are all manufacturers that way or is abu one of the selected few on carrying parts?
  23. thanks for the feedback thus far. although i am still new to fishing (first year), i am still learning what the good brands are within a decent amount of cash. i noticed that you mentioned Revo reels. i can only read about the reels in the catalog and compare functions. without actually having th money to buy a few reels to seew hich one i like better, i usually have to settle for one and hope for the best. in the 100-200 price range, would anyone disagree about the Revo reel being the best bet? i know this is directing this thread in another dorection but i am always open to shifting towards another brand other than BPS. thanks again for everyones help. it is greatly appreciated. I hope to have my choice finalized come BPS fiahing show. right now i am looking at purchasing the Shimano Crucial rod. now i need to find a reel
  24. thanks for the feedback, i must say that is one flaw that i am noticing with this Extreme reel. most of the time when im fishing and tying my lure to the line, the top of the reel will knock against the rocks and the top seriously looks like i drug it down the road going 50 miles an hour. its an eye soar but it still works the way it should!!!
  25. As a lot of you know, BPS is having there annual fishing show in FEB/MAR and i was in my planning stages of what to upgrade in my arsenal. i came across this baitcasting reel. has anyone used this reel or does anyone have it that can lend some positive/negative information on it? http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_104089_100001001_100000000_100001000_100-1-1 as of right now, i am using the BPS Extreme Baitcaster (6:4:1). I have had no problems at all but considering a really nice upgrade
