  1. Excuse me for playing devil's advocate here, but I have a question that I am curious about. If reel company x and reel company y both build reels of similar quality with similar tolerances out of similar materials (i.e. brass gears, SS bearings), What can possibly be so different that company x's lubes will cause problems in company y's reels and vice versa? Even if company x makes their lube specifically with their reels in mind, the reel itself is similar to a brand y reel, so it seems to me the lubes should also be similar.
  2. Probably not. Shakespeare Ugly Stiks are made in the US, and I would be willing to bet big bucks more of those get sold every year than Loomis, for the simple reason that Loomis' lowest line is still well out of the price range of the average " Joe fisherman" who only gets out a couple times a year.
  3. I just got off the phone with one of the reel techs at Abu Garcia. The sound I was hearing is normal and due to a safety feature that prevents the gears from being damaged when they are stopped suddenly. I should be getting my reel back within a couple days.
  4. I use them with cranks some of the time so I can change lures quickly, although as others have said you can learn to retie almost as quickly with enough practice. When I am using inline spinners, I almost always use one because they help to reduce the line twist these lures tend to create
  5. Why do spinning reels have these? I always leave mine on and can't think of a normal situation where it would be beneficial to turn off the anti reverse, but it must serve some purpose or else they wouldn't have them. So when and why should you turn off your anti reverse when using a spinning reel?
  6. I Just posted a similar thread a couple days ago called "Abu C4 problem", you might want to check that out. Unfortunately, none of the suggestions worked for me, but they might for you. I ended up sending mine in to get serviced by Abu Garcia.
  7. A couple days ago I posted about my c4 which started acting up after I serviced it. I have looked into all of the suggestions provided on that thread, and appreciate them all, but unfortunately none of them worked. I have decided to send the reel into Abu so their guys can take a look at it. I have never sent a reel anywhere before, and was wondering what the best way to package it would be.
  8. I use round and LP reels side by side. If i palm either type for too long, it starts to get uncomfortable, but if I switch from round to LP or vise versa, the grip is different enough to relieve the discomfort.
  9. thanks for the ideas guys. I checked the pinion yoke and it was in correctly, and my drag and spool tension are set how i would normally have them to go fishing. I noticed that there is some some slight play in the pinion gear. Is this normal or could it be what is causing the problem?
  10. I just took apart and relubed all of my reels. While I was testing them to make sure everything was working ok after i put them back together, I discovered a problem with my Abu Garcia 4600 C4. when I crank the handle rapidly and stop suddenly as if I was reeling slack and setting the hook, the spool continues to spin and makes a ratcheting sound. My best guess is that the spool is slipping out of the pinion gear. Nothing looks stripped and the reel is less than a year old. I opened the reel up to look at it and looked at the schematic, and everything appears to be put together correctly. What could be causing this problem?
  11. the camo escent is one of my favorite lines for baitcasters, but I didn't like it when I tried it on a spinning reel. I have not used the fluoro.
  12. Well just becareful man, don't want that one day to be the wrong day just because you want to prove someone wrong. It's always better Safe then Sorry. Thanks for the concern fellas, but there is about a zero percent chance I would mixed up a cottonmouth with a water snake, at least during the day. It would be like confusing a largemouth bass with a channel catfish! Even if you are sure the snake isn't poisonous, puncture wounds can lead to some pretty nasty infections, and who knows what kind of bacteria the snake might have in its mouth. Just something else you might want to think about.
  13. What are you using this combo for? I know they are marketing it as a superline rod, but i was thinking that the fiberglass tip would make it a good cranking rod as well.
