  1. I agree with about 80% of that article. 2 things that I think really help in cold water jerkbait fishing is: 1- realizing baitfish are usually at their largest this time of year where I fish so I generally start with a larger bait. Most of the mature shad I see in the reservoir I fish are 5-7 inches. That's not to say smaller shad are not present but the ones I see struggling to make it thru tha winter flopping on the surface are that big so why not match it! #2- mono, I want my bait as neutrally buoyant as possible and in my opinion with a good neutral bait, flouro will make it sink more than I want, especially on a long pause over some sticky water. That results in lost baits from time to time. I've spent about 10yrs trying to find the right recipe for jerk baits and these this work well for me. Not to say other ways are incorrect or non productive, just saying this is how it works for me!
  2. Try a pointer 78XD in a shad pattern. At least that's what I hear works well early march. Should be great on spinny setup
  3. Brick, I have access to hooes run so I usually launch from there untill FH opens back up.
  4. Ej, just for giggles because I know you fish the res, where is the tx you are going to fish??
  5. I think hooligan said he has been using them with good success.
  6. This is my set up for jerk baits and how I fish them. 7' MH moderat action rod, calcutta150 with 12lb mono. I think that my baits suspend the best with mono plus with a MH rod, I like a little extra stretch. Pointer 100. I like areas that have a deep flat close to deep water, preferably at a turn in the channel with a little cover. Throw the bait out and crank the bait down about 6-7 turns of your reel. Like nitro said cadence and pause are critical. After my bait is down, I start with a count to 12, then impart 2 small twitches. And start my count again. This is seriously tedious fishing. You will be very tempted to do things faster, DON'T!! Fan cast the area and change your pause times and twitches until you find one that the fish want.
  7. That usually the way all my friends with big boats run it!
  8. Took me a while to figure out where I fit in the grand scheme of things. I'm a locksmith in the metro DC area and wouldn't have it any other way. Started a business with a friend that hired me after he started his own business. He then sold his business and 6 years later he wanted to start another with me. 6 years later and we have a flourishing company that specializes in commercial applications especially with access control. With all of the fancy-shmancy architectural designs on all of these new buildings, the last thing anyone takes into consideration is how to secure it!! That's where my partner come in! Ever wonder how you are gonna secure an entryway that is all glass, no headers or rails?! We can make that happen and make it look like that's how it was all along. People call us when they have problems that need special attention. 25 yrs in the industry and I still love every day of it! I couldn't see myself in a 9-5, sit at a desk deal. I'd probably go postal!!
  9. Very nice, can't believe Shimmy hasn't been trying to meet up with you! All he wants is big bites like that! Keep it up!
  10. What virgin is gonna want a one legged martyr?!
  11. Wow!? I've gone thru a divorce and I know what kind of toll it takes on your outlook on life. Keep in mind, everyone's situation is different and you are in control of the future. Take a deep breath, keep the faith that things will be better with time. I'm sure you want things to be correct from the very first moment things started going south. All of the beaucratic bs has to be sorted out by those in charge and that taks time. Know in your heart that you will come out on top, believe that things will turn out in your favor. I'll keep you and your girls in my thoughts. KTF!
  12. I have the VTC 7'3" 6 power (moderate action) and love it! Primarily throw the scrounger with it with the revo SX. Cast like a dream. probably a good small plastic, small crank/jb/finess jig rod as well. Depends on what you are planning to throw?! Much lighter than the mojo line.
  13. My ff stopped giving me temp readings I have figured out its the ducer! So I am not sure what the actual reading is. If I had to guess, I'd say 40-45 tops. I've got a spot on the res that has been a jb magnet for the past 5 years, wish I could have gotten the big one I had hooked tho!
  14. One of three I caught on the occoquan res today, also lost a stud! Jb was working well!
  15. Hope you have a jb tied on *wink*wink*!
  16. Thanks Wayne. Very much appreciated.
  17. What is the difference between the 798ci si and the 798 HDci si? Is it just a new year model?? Can't seem to find a good answer.
  18. Nitro, no, not all at mercer. PM sent.
  19. Thanks guys, not really sure what temps were. Some friends and I have been steady catching fish for the past few weeks. One of them had a day where he caught 3 slow rolling a blade. 3.5,4.25,5.25!
  20. Mercer on a jb
  21. Crack thirty on a summer day, ripping down the res in a tshirt and shorts, knowing full well that even if I don't catch any, my day has already been magnificent!!
  22. People that butcher a sentence by inserting the word "like" at every pause. I once overheard a conversation that had no less than 25 "likes" in it!!
  23. Glade you don't have to be in the nasty mix! Be safe wherever you land!
  24. Get well soon
