  1. Try to make an effort to eat well (veggies, fruit, balanced diet) and make sure you stay well hydrated. I started doing this (especially the water) and was amazed at how much better I feel at the end of each day. Fast food is easy and I'm sure being on the road makes it the best option some times but try it for a week and see if it helps. Just a thought!
  2. It can be a little tricky to get back up in there but often times it will be well worth it. You should be casting up into areas that you would swear you would see the backs of fish but they are there. Pay close attention to stumps and vertical structure. Good luck. Also check out the ends of the islands with shakey worms and small jigs.
  3. 14.68, happy with that! Get shallower than 5' cause its always deeper than you think! You will be amazed at how shallow these fish will get this time of year!
  4. If launching from bull run, go up and fish the big cove by the soccer fields. Don't be afraid to get really shallow!
  5. d3, why so much venom and bitterness? Getting satisfaction from hard work is a bad thing?
  6. I have the mojo big crankster as well and love it as well. Took a little experimenting with line but its everything I could ask for in a deep cranking stick. I think you will be working too hard with those rod choices, wanting to throw those bigger, deeper baits. Plus, the additional length of a rod will alow for longer casts and longer time for the bait to stay at its max depth. Just something to think about.
  7. They were a little stiff last time I tried them. Football jig trailer is my use, or should I say that's the last time I tried them
  8. Fish are all over the place. Points, grass, bluffs. A lot of smaller fish but some nice fish mixed in. Senko, creature baits have gotten bites. Buzz bait early. Supposed to be very windy tomorrow so be safe!
  9. That's a great fish anywhere, very special here in Va, great job!
  10. If the club is as laid back as you say it is, if the money is not an issue, if you have other friends in the club that you enjoy being around, I might stay and put the word out among other members you are looking for a "new" partner and continue fishing in the club. Just an option. Seems a shame to burn a bridge just because of one person! But if its no longer fun, move on to another club that is!
  11. I'm sure your successful days are far more memorable than the skunky days! If you play the big bait game all day, it's got to be very rewarding when you catch them good!!
  12. Beauty, here in Va?!
  13. You sir, need only call me and we shall fish!!
  14. That football would have been returned in pieces! Do juveniles act the fool, yes, can you change that, probably not. Growing up has its challenges. Away from parents and guiding forces, kids tend to be influenced by their peers. Trying to be a big shot to their friends like someone mentioned earlier. You just hope they don't end up serial killers!! I don't have kids but I would think parents would try to instill a strong sense of right and wrong early and often. Things have a way of righting themselves thru life, you just have to hope it happens sooner rather than later!!
  15. I've gotten on spots and caught the dog snot out of 3-5 lb fish for a couple hours straight with the graph on! If they are turned on, it doesn't matter. Conversely, I can see how unagressive fish may get spooked by the ping of a graph and it might be something to consider when bites are at a premium! I think releasing fish back to aggressively feeding fish will shut them down just as quickly, but that's just me!
  16. Wow Wayne, looks like she ate two softballs before she got ahold of your bait!!
  17. I've noticed that not all of the fish on the structure are relating to it the same way. The active ones may be right on top, looking to be opportunistic feeders while some may be suspending off to one side or another. The trick is to get the ones actively feeding first, then motivate the ones not as active to bite. To me, it's a fun game to play because it can be very rewarding with lots of fish as well as quality fish. I'm still learning about the off shore stuff, but so far, I look forward to it more and more each year!!
  18. This is when you can get them good on a smartly fished weightless fluke down steeper banks that have some bigger lay downs reaching out and over the creek channel!
  19. I read somewhere that mid grade fuels have less additives making it easier on outboards. Can't remember where I saw the article or even if its true but since I started going with the mid grade fuel, any fuel related issues have been few and far between.
  20. I would never totally eliminate a bait. If you are comfortable throwing the jb or a rig then try them. If the spawn is over have you seen males guarding fry? If so, the females are sometimes still in the area suspending just out of sight and the jb will work. If the fish have totally left the spawning areas, look for the first deeper water area and where it starts to change. Senko is my first choice. Try finding a senko with some blue flecks in it. Try it weightless at first, if you don't get bit, try pegging a 1/16oz tungsten to it and drag that around the same areas.
  21. Yes, in my experience, that is pretty much how it happens. They make their way back to deeper areas along much of the same routs they took to the spawning areas. Early in the day you can get up on flats and find them feeding, later in the day, they may be on the ends of the flats, closer to deeper water and secondary points. Some fish will jet right out to main lake points and be very shallow there until water temps and o2 levels drive them deeper and into summertime patterns. At least that's the way my little res fishes.
  22. Wasn't a ds, might have been split shot rig.
  23. Carl is not throwing a ds
  24. It's a better option any other time than now (now that they are nice and shallow) not to say you can't make it work shallow, you just have better baits to catch fish with than the droppy!
  25. I have an alumacraft crappie jon, previous owner scratched off the "ie".............. and that's about right!
