  1. I'll go out on a limb and say its "more fun!"
  2. Evidently a disabled child got lost in the woods so they had half of Faifax counties finest looking! Bigger question would be, where were this child's parents??!!
  3. I hear ya! That place is very hit ad miss. Should be a lot of fish guarding fry, shouldn't be too hard to get them to bite! Good luck and let us know how you do!
  4. Ooooooo! Must see! I love pics of giant brown fish!
  5. Burke Lake will be a good place to fish. Last big rain we had, went out there and caught them pretty good. I bet you could woop them on a fluke all over the lake!!
  6. Charcoal, and don't forget, your grill makes a difference too! Weber all the way!
  7. Check and see if you have had anything happen to the prop sheer pin as well! Weird that it just completely stopped operating?
  8. Still fish on beds, I think the fish that are going to spawn are doing so now or have just finished. Haven't seen any fry yet tho!
  9. Right there with you- only bug that turns me into high pitched ninny!!
  10. Troy, I've got two dedicated setups for jerkbaits!
  11. I used to watch guys run those things at an industrial pond in Springfield. Insanely fast and quick in the corners!!
  12. There are times I will go to the shallowest part of a flat and pitch a bait in to what appears to be only inches of water and pull out 3-4lb fish routinely. Someone once told me "it's always a little deeper than you think it is" so to give my opinion, try a lighter jig if you think the bait is not getting noticed!
  13. It's funny how people are able to pull little bits and pieces from trips and conversations together and make a plan work on their body of water!! That's why I like the forums here and love to fish the res!! So many interesting ideas and places to try and apply them!!
  14. Glad I could kinda help!! That bait has put a great many fish in my boat as well!! Nice to see you are able to make a little time for yourself and wet a line! Hope you get some more opportunities to bond with nature!
  15. The res gets tough when the water got so high and drops just as quickly! The key for me in situations like that have been to look for areas that clean up a little quicker or areas that break the current a little bit!
  16. Traveler, I thought the bassmaster article was "lakes" not "rivers" and Freud, I would never condone a physical altercation with the rowers or coaches, so not worth it! The smugness to which they conduct themselves on the res is truly amazing tho!! Traveler had it right, make your intentions known that you will be making a formal complaint. Get the name of the person and the school they represent and take it from there. Most of the time, these complaints fall on def ears! I hope that one day someone actually gets out there and sees how these coaches refuse to recognize that the res is multi use and that no one group of people has exclusive rights to use that body of water!!
  17. Nice fish Sonny!! That's the way to make the most of your time, just big ones!!
  18. Enjoyed a nice day Saturday at Burke lake! 12 fish, all between 2.5-3.5lbs! Senko and jig, lots of beds, some occupied, some empty.
  19. You know who causes the most shoreline erosion on the res? Rowers chase boats!! Mike is spot on!!
  20. It's going to be a mess for the next few days. If you do decide to go out, be very careful, the water came up fast and that will bring a lot of debris with it!!
  21. Traveler, those are excellent points and thanks for recommending that course of action. Having fished the Occoquan reservoir for 25+ years, I've seen how the rowers have changed the way things operate there. Plenty of the fishermen I know that have just as much time or more have seen it as well. We have tried friendly banter and written more than our fair share of letters to the proper people. Unfortunately, there has been little to no change to the attitude of the crew teams. I'm nt saying each and every rower is a problem, it seems to be the high school rowers and the coaches. I've never had any problems with singles, doubles or college teams, they are well aware of other people that use the reservoir for things other than rowing!! If it was as simple as recording and reporting the incidents, it still wouldn't be a day in day out problem. Unfortunately, some of these people think they own the place and it's up to you to get out of their way! Until they change the elitist attitude they have, short of "taking some of the coaches to the bank", I'll have my air horn at the ready and kill them with kindness when I stand my ground and make them row around me!!
  22. Here is what some of the guys have come up with as a "solution", to make the rowers aware of our location while on the water. We use the small air horns with compressed air dealys! You can buy a few and give them to friends! Amazing what a blast with those things will do to rowers " in the grove!" , talk about freaking out!! It's very entertaining and gets your point across quickly!!
  23. Did you happen to find out which school he was with? I would call the school and make them aware of the incident and calmly let them know it is a multi use body of water and if it happens again, you will make a formal complaint to the proper authorities.
  24. Nice fish! Could have used a fish like that yesterday in the tournament!!
