  1. Thanks for the info Scott. IMO the Expride Medium Heavy is closer to a Heavy Action in most rods. So the Heavy Action champion extreme sounds more like a Medium Heavy+
  2. I'm not familiar with Dobyns rods. I mostly use loomis, exprides and megabass rods. From what I've read the dobyns power ratings on there rods are very under rated? I'm just trying to get an idea of the actions before I order one. I'm looking at a dobyns champion extreme 704 heavy and the 705 mag heavy. A mag heavy with a rating up to 1 1/2oz sounds like alot more rod then what im looking for but I heard it closer to a medium heavy and cant handle over an ounce. Is the 704 heavy similar to say a Medium Heavy expride? or a loomis e6x mag bass medium heavy?
  3. Smallmouth gear, Super Destroyer p5
  4. I'll throw my 2 cents in here. Ive owned most high end rods from loomis nrx, conquests, posion adrenas, exprides, tatula elite ags. Last year I bought a Super Destroyer P5 and the entire line up is absolutely my favorite rods of all time. They are truly a work of art. I now also own the Madbull and X-bites. The sensitivity is right on par with my NRX. Each rod is just perfectly made, from the wraps to the carbon grip, its so crisp and clean. They are literally the only rods I want to fish with now. Theres a video on YouTube from the Hook Up Tackle where he goes over a bunch of the p5 rods and what the best techniques are for them. I absolutely love my X-bites for 1/4- 1/2 jigs but the SD and Madbull are the best reaction bait rods ever made in my opinion. I use the Super Destroyer the most which is good for many applications. I caught thousands of smallmouth on it last season up to 7 pounds and also caught a 48" Muskie on it from a small river where I had to move the fish away from heavy cover, rod was completely bent in half but handled em like a dream. ?‍♂️
  5. Just seeing what your guys opinion is on handle color for the Steez A. I know it doesnt really matter but just curious for fun. What color do you like best? Black, red or gold?
  6. I got both these reels coming in the Mail. What reel do you prefer? I've been a Shimano fan boy much of my life but bought a Steez SV TW and its amazing reel although I thought the SV was a little brake heavy. Im excited to try the Aluminum version.. The longevity factor on my Steez has been turning me to the dark side ha 3 seasons of heavy use and it still feels like new, cant say the same for my Shimanos after one season of heavy use, they feel geary or I have to replace a pinion gear or bearing. Hoping the 2020 version will hold up longer. For those who own these reels or have, if you had to choose one, which would it be and why?
  7. I'm buying a new reel handle on my swimbait set up. Ive never used Cork knobs before but I like the weight savings and im a huge fan of cork.rod handles. My Question is what are the pros.and cons over cork/rubber. Are these cork knobs going to flake and pit like cork rod handles. Also can they handle the torque of swimbaits over time. I use cork seal on my.rods but don't know if id like that on my handle as they tend to make it a little more slick.
  8. Thanks for the great replies guys, ill def be trying some of those finesse jigs l. ive been throwing tube jigs for many years and my fish are above normal for size, im chasing hogs. ?
  9. Jig fishing isn't one of my specialities and I'm looking at getting into it. I fish mostly shallow clear rivers with slow to moderate current. Whats your favorite jig/trailers for these conditions? Swim Jig? Football Jig? finesse jig? there's alot that goes into it and just hoping to skip some of the learning curve and not spend a bunch of $$ finding the best jigs. Thanks for an advice.
  10. Its one of my fav rods that a someone is selling. I would like even a slightly heavier action but im just scared its going to be crazy stiff now like a pool cue.
  11. If I get a 6' 6" MH rod with the small top section of the rod broken off and get it fixed, it will be right around 6ft. Its a Fast Action Rod, Is this going to alter the action quite a bit? Since alot of the bend would come towards the top section of the rod, I would assume this would make it a much heavier action?
  12. I know theres an old thread on this with a few responses. Im picking up some gamakastu ewg short shank hooks and am wondering what size to put on the front. size 4 or 6? I heard some people use size 4 and others use size 6. what size hook is closest to size as the stock hook? I would like the exact size as the stock hook. im pretty sure the stock hook is a 4 but a size 4 for one company isnt always the same as a size 4 from another. thanks
  13. Im looking at getting a new rod/ reel for smaller swimbaits in the 1 to 3 oz range. Just wondering what your guy's favs are. Im looking at a tranx 200 and possibly an expride A 7 3 xtra heavy?
  14. Has anybody tried Winn Grip Handle Sleeves? How did you like them? I was thinking about sliding em on my Steev SV since the knobs are so small but thinking it might not be a good idea putting these on such a nice reel.
